5 – #01. Unexpected meeting (4)

On her way home, Mea gently looked up at the sky.

‘I’m regretting it.’

He clearly said that about her relationship with Mea herself.

Regret.

She knew that for months she had been watching him steadily and had a great trauma with that fascination, so she knew that a similar answer would come back.

But she didn’t know that her chest hurt so much when she actually heard it.

“…… I don’t.”

The time since she met him was always happy.

From the time I first realized the feeling of love until now.

The color of the world changed before and after meeting him. She hadn’t known it was love until then, but she probably didn’t think she’d ever feel this way without him.

First and last love.

Nevertheless, he only regretted it.

Actually, she wanted to ask.

Has she ever been really happy? Himself, and to be honest, I don’t like it, but other women too. Wasn’t there ever a good time in the midst of people who would call us like that?

“Calm down.”

Mea whispered as if repeating herself.

When she is by his side, she keeps getting hotter. Her heart is shaking to the point of no abnormality, and to be honest, I just want to be by his side without falling apart for a minute or a second.

That pure white girl.

Did you say Lenny?

The child must have been by his side all along. Since she was a blind child, I understand why he is taking her, but apart from that, I feel envious of the position.

“No, no.”

I’m not like that.

Such a shallow thing.

She bit her lower lip.

Even now, it was easy for her to satisfy her own greed.

She watched him and knew that his skills had improved a lot compared to the past, but no matter how much she did, she couldn’t beat Mea, who had risen to the ranks of heroes.

I’m sure you’ll feel good.

Get rid of that pure white girl somewhere, and live alone in that little cabin. He kisses her every morning and prepares his favorite food. When that’s done, next…….

“Ha, …… No, this is not it.”

My lower abdomen hurts.

She shook her head with effort as she felt it.

Anyone can do it, as long as they love.

She had love at will, and anyone could draw a picture of him, and if she was such a woman, she would spread widely throughout the world.

“That’s not what I want.”

She wanted to be his understanding.

Love? Such petty feelings could be left to others to harbor. What Mea herself wants is what lies ahead of her.

He hated himself very much.

I could feel it after watching him for several months, and even though his appearance was heartbreaking, I was thinking of taking on the role of rebuking him if I wanted to.

His heart aches.

Like it’s going to tear. It was all painful to have to deliberately show dislike to the person you love, and to have to put up with the love that boils inside.

Mea was hurt when he said that she regretted meeting him. It obviously hurt that she told him that she was disgusting and that she had to show an attitude of deliberately pushing him away.

Perhaps he too will be hurt by his own words.

So this might just be a meaningless act of self-mutilation in which two sharp hedgehogs force themselves to cling to each other.

But he needed someone to rebuke him.

He was feeling a lot of guilt, so I thought you wanted someone to tell you it was bad. But who among the girls he’s attracted to say that?

So, I will speak for myself.

“You are bad. Wrong. You are the worst.”

Words like that.

Even if you forcibly pretend to be something you don’t really mean.

Because the wound was exactly what he wanted. She understood it wholeheartedly, and the strange pleasure of being the only one who could do what he wanted was communicated to her in line with her wounds.

“…… If only I could be by your side like this.”

She thought that by reuniting with him and professing her love again, she was putting salt in his wounds. At least she wanted to be the only one who understood his sincerity.

Coming out of the hut, I walk on a mountain path.

Ever since I stopped by that place, I always needed time to gather my mind. Her anxiety that she might soon reveal her true feelings if she was a little bit off guard always left her with fear.

I thought he would run away again if I confessed my love to her like that.

She was afraid of that.

Slowing her heavy steps, she spotted a flock of birds flying far away.

Did you watch the little sparrow-like things fly away? In the place where the birds left, a bat hanging upside down on a branch stood out.

The reunion with Mea was too sudden, but I couldn’t neglect her livelihood.

Today, I stop by the cooperative to find work.

There was quite a bit of money saved up, but it wasn’t strange that anything happened at any time in this fantasy world, so there was nothing wrong with saving money.

Probably because there are more mouths to take care of.

If I had been alone, I would have been able to live moderately, but since I was living with a girl, I had no choice but to care about my livelihood.

“Ah, are you here?”

At the receptionist’s greeting, I slightly turned her gaze and nodded her head.

About three years have passed since I settled here, so I haven’t looked at it with strange eyes anymore. At least within this union, the premise was laid, but it reminded me that at first it was a big deal to ask for something that unknown members could not be accepted.

“How are you today?”

“It’s just like that, well. Are the peddlers sometimes coming to ask for favors or extermination of nearby monsters? Oh, and there was also a request to find a lost necklace.”

Nothing is really different from usual.

Come to think of it, there was no way anything special happened in this border town.

It is said that sometimes there are various jobs such as fighting over the territory or exterminating monsters on a large scale, but this city is not that large.

“Still, it just went well. Yesterday, someone designated an adventurer and gave me a nomination request, but I didn’t know when he would come, so I was thinking about sending someone.”

“Name?”

I don’t remember ever gaining enough recognition to receive something like that.

I was worried for a while about the nomination request I received for the first time in my life. Of course, I knew there was such a function, but who would readily trust and nominate an adventurer with a face covered?

In addition, the price of a nomination request is somewhat higher than that of a general request, so it was rare to nominate unless it was unclear or important.

“Who nominated me?”

“I don’t feel like a resident of our city. I asked anonymously, but he said he would look for me again around noon today, so I’m sure he’ll arrive soon.”

It wasn’t necessarily a good thing to be nominated.

Depending on who commissioned it, there were many cases where it was better to refuse it, and above all, I heard that there were also cases where normal quests could not be handled because the content itself was dangerous and difficult.

Above all, I was a little embarrassed because I thought it had nothing to do with me.

I’ve lived in the vicinity of this city for three years, but I can only count on five fingers if I have to talk to you personally because I don’t show my face and I can’t get close to you.

“You don’t know who the person who nominated him is?”

“Yes. So, if you think the job content is strange, I recommend that you decline. Attracting customers is important, but we don’t want to lose experienced members.”

Since I don’t know the other person, I have nothing to say.

I’d listen first, but to be honest, I wasn’t the type to be confident in my skills, so I’m sorry if the request was unreasonable, but I thought I’d decline it.

“How was the atmosphere?”

“To be honest, it was like meeting a nobleman. I couldn’t see it because I was wearing a black dress and my face was covered with a cloth, but it’s noble just by looking at it? It felt the same way.”

“Someone like the wife of an aristocrat? How could such a person…….”

I was a little startled here.

I’m not sure, maybe it’s my self-consciousness.

But on the other hand, wouldn’t it be more credible that someone who belonged to what I arbitrarily called a harem found me than that a woman of high status suddenly nominated me, who was not so well known?

Come to think of it, this seemed more likely.

Didn’t Mea actually look for me?

Of course, she said that Mea had an overwhelming advantage over anyone else where she needed this information, but she never prevented other women from finding it.

“Ah, there you are.”

Then, the guide slightly turned her head to look at the entrance of the cooperative.

My gaze followed, and my body froze.

“Welcome. The adventurer you nominated just arrived. Ah, this is a nomination request from an adventurer…… Are you an adventurer?”

“Huh? No, that.”

She covered her face with an opaque cloth, but she was speechless for a moment as she stared at her glowing red eyes even though she was covered by the blonde and black cloth that flowed down the side of it.

Plus, the atmosphere and the sweet but slightly fishy scent.

“Is it okay if I talk about it from here on out?”

She gave her words to the guide and took a step closer.

At this, my body instinctively takes a step back.

“…… Oh my, are you avoiding me? This is kind of sad.”

“Why, here….”

“Huh? Did you two know each other?”

I couldn’t answer the guide’s words.

I couldn’t afford to do that, and above all, I couldn’t even flinch because my whole body was shaking. A strong sense of intimidation that is conveyed just by facing, and an atmosphere that forces the opponent to obey.

There was no way I didn’t know.

There’s no way I’ll ever forget this woman.

“Yes. It was a very deep relationship. So, would it be all right if I borrowed the reception room for a while? To solve a long-standing resentment. Also, the description of the request will be quite long.”

“Oh, yes! Sure.”

At her words, the guide nodded her head, but as she passed by me for a moment, she whispered in a small voice that only I could hear.

“If it’s dangerous, you know?”

But I couldn’t answer.

At this, the guide stopped passing by and she stopped slightly, but before she could recognize it and reply, she took another step this way and smiled.

“He changed her name and covered her handsome face like this. You are really mean.”

The black veil that covered her face was lifted slightly.

Inside, there were bright red eyes staring at me, as if blood would flow down at any moment.
