Zenith’s Tower

Chapter 17: Great White Wolf

Ellis held his hand up to shoot the last drops of his anima, it probably wouldn’t do anything with as little as he had left, but it was better than dying doing nothing. Suddenly, a hand reached out and grabbed his arm, yanking it away.

“Is that really how you thank someone that just saved you?”

Ellis’s head turned to the person holding his hand back. A younger girl annoyingly glared back at him. The girl looked to be a little younger than Ellis. She had short hair that was tied up in the back and bangs that swooshed off to the side. Her sunset like hair seemed to glow in the moonlight as her eyes shone like a ruby. She had a bow in one hand and a small buckler fixed to her wrist on the other hand. She was wearing pieces of leather armor over top of the white knitted dress. Ellis looked back at the wolf as it ran right past him before it stopped and sat down at the girl’s feet. The white wolf was eye level with the girl as it sat and panted, waiting for the girl to pet it.

“You are such a good girl; yes, you are!”

The girl whispered in a baby voice, scratching underneath its chin as it wagged its tail and sent clouds of dust into Ellis’s face.

Ellis waved the dust off his face as he looked over toward Belial still fighting the huge monster. Ellis watched as Belial dodged a slash from the monster before thrusting his dagger into the side of the monster’s neck and the monster exploded seemingly from the inside out, sending the huge sword the monster had been wielding right at Ellis.

Shkling!

The massive sword pierced into the ground directly in front of Ellis with a satisfying sound.

Belial casually walked up to Ellis and the girl. He looked as though he hadn’t even broken a sweat yet.

“Oh, how nice of you to show up, Cora. Where are the rest?”

Belial put his hand up to his face and teasingly scanned the area as if he was searching. Find authorized novels in Webnovelfaster updates, better experiencePlease click www.webnovel.com www.webnovel.com for visiting.

“They’re coming, they’re just a bit behind because I rode Luna through the city. You should have seen their faces! They thought Luna was a monster! You’re not a monster, are you?”

The girl frowned as she snuggled the wolf’s face against hers while the wolf panted and licked her face.

But it is a monster

Ellis’s eyebrows wrinkled as he thought to himself.

“Well, you managed that quite well didn’t you.”

Belial looked down at Ellis and mocked. He only had a few scratches on him, whereas Ellis had several deep wounds.

Ellis rolled his eyes as he fished out the bottle of health potion in his bag and took a few gulps. There was barely any potion left in it, but if he died here it wouldn’t matter how much potion he had left. The monsters would probably overrun the city and kill everyone, including his mom.

“How much longer?”

Belial looked from Cora to the approaching wave of monsters.

“5 minutes, tops.”

Cora replied as she counted her arrows.

Belial looked at the onslaught of monsters and laughed out loud with a crazed face. His expression was a look of pure delight. He was enjoying this life or death battle. Belial stretched his muscles and readied himself as the next wave approached. He took out the hand in his pocket and clasped it around the handle of the giant sword pierced into the earth in front of Ellis. His expression turned devilish as he heaved it out from the ground, lifting it into the air and pointing it toward the monsters.

Ellis quickly jumped to his feet feeling better from the potion and opened his TowerCard. He knew he had leveled up at least a couple of times while he was fighting. 15 stat points. If he was going to survive these battles, he was going to need to use these. Ellis replayed the beginning of the battle in his head.

I was too slow. I need to avoid getting hit as much as possible and be as quick as I can with attacks.

After dumping all his available points into agility, he felt his muscles loosen up. With no anima left, he was going to have to entirely rely on his melee strength.

Soon the swarm of monsters was right in front of them. Belial took it upon himself to jump straight into the crowd of monsters and began cleaving monsters in half, ten at a time with the giant sword while accurately slitting other monsters’ throats with his dagger. Monster exploded and monster parts flew into the sky everywhere Belial went. Cora then pointed her finger and her great white wolf growled as it jumped into the fray, gobbling up monsters and ripping them to shreds. The wolf wrestled against the larger monsters as Cora handled the smaller beasts with her bow. She jumped and spun through the air while she shot monsters down before using their corpses to leap up to attack the next one. Occasionally, she would sense that her wolf was struggling and arrow the monster until her wolf gained control. Ellis stood and watched stunned for a few seconds. This girl was strong! Ellis regained his composure as monsters began swarming around him.

Ellis took out monsters as swiftly as he could. Using his newfound higher agility, he dodged around monsters while quickly cutting their legs causing them to fall to the ground before he would plunge his halberd down, skewering them. He was swinging his halberd around so much he was surprised he didn’t fly up into the air like a helicopter.

Every so often Ellis would slip up and almost be cleaved in half by a monster, but just in the nick of time Cora would launch a volley of arrows into the monster or Belial would cleave the monster in half, giving Ellis enough time to recuperate before getting right back into the fight. Wounds slowly appeared on their bodies as they fought. A graze here, a bruise there. It all added up causing them to slow down. Ellis was huffing and puffing for air, and hardly had enough strength to continue to fight. So he backed up for a moment as he drank the rest of the potion. Reinvigorated, he dashed back into the fight.

Ellis had fought hundreds of monsters at once before but those were weak Imps and Scarvers, plus he had the miracle potion that removed all his fatigue with a single sip. Every monster he was fighting against now was twice the size and multiple times the level of monsters he had fought in the Tower.

As Cora was jumping around arrowing down monsters, a monster reached up and grabbed her leg yanking her to the ground. As she hit the ground blood spurted from her mouth. Her wolf monster howled in anger as it plowed its way through countless monsters toward its master. The wolf wasn’t going to make it and Belial was too far away to help. The only one near her was Ellis.

Ellis saw as the girl he had just barely met was dragged down to the ground. He looked around, realizing that he was the only one around to help her. He ran for her, dodging and ignoring all the monsters in his way. The girl struggled up from the ground before the monster swung its arm at her, she couldn’t pull up her buckler fast enough to block the giant fist coming for her. Before the monster’s massive fist could collide with her, Ellis dove forward, tackling Cora out of the way.

Swoosh!

The monsters fist hit nothing but air as Cora’s wolf jumped up and dug its claws into the monster to climb up to the monster’s head. The wolf opened its mouth before it bit down on the monster’s head and ripped it clean off.

Ellis looked up at the girl on top of him and his face turned red. The girl blushed before she jumped up to her feet and extended a handout to help Ellis up.

“I never introduced myself to you. I’m Cora and that’s Luna.”

Cora said as she pulled Ellis up from off the ground and gestured to the large white wolf standing guard.

“Ellis. I’m Ellis.”

He responded back to her.

“Nice to meet you, Ellis.”

Cora tilted her head to the side and smiled as her face flushed with color. Ellis’s face reddened as he tried to stammer out a response, but before he could get out a response, Belial’s voice broke his dazed look.

“I hate to ruin your moment, but this is no time for introductions. You should worry about surviving first.”

Belial squinted at them teasingly.

“Don’t you mean we?”

Cora rolled her eyes sensing Belial’s ego.

“I only have a few minor wounds and not to mention this.”

Belial spun his gigantic sword around in his hand.

“Whereas as you two”

He said as he gestured to their various lacerations, bruised and bumps.

Cora and Ellis looked at Belial in annoyance, irritated by his pride. Even though he was right. They were way more beaten up than him, and Ellis had even been drinking his health potion.

Belial looked toward the next wave of monsters headed for them. It was the last wave before they would have to face that gigantic monster. There were still around 300 monsters left. At the back of the horde, the massive monster with horns ablaze roared into the sky in rage.
