Chapter 61: Laifu’s Misjudging

Translator: LiamHW

When Yuan Boshu came back, he found that there were already five bags of spices in the yard and then he asked with surprise, “That is so quick.”

Wu Dahu raised his eyebrows, and then wiped the sweat off on his forehead, asking, “Aren’t you in a hurry? And now you just say that is quick.”

Yuan Boshu coughed dryly and then answered awkwardly, “It’s fine for processing it fast. I think I am able to leave tomorrow.”

Sensing that there was some regret in his tone, Song Qinghan tried to cheer him up in purpose, saying, “If you wish to, you can leave here right away. I think there still has some ox carts ready to head to the town. Do you want us to ask them to come here?”

Waving hand, Yuan Boshu startled, saying, “It’s fine, it’s fine. I don’t think travelling at night is a good idea. Moreover, I have troubled you for quite a long time. I will go myself to find an oxcart.”

After that, he sighed coldly. And Song Qinghan became curious while asking the man in a teasing tone, “Are you still worried about Youning? Will you take him back to your town or just leave him here?”

Yuan Boshu wanted to deny it, but when Song Qinghan asked about what he had been suffering for, he nodded, answering, “I haven’t thought about it yet, but I prefer to leave him here. If he go back the town with me, I can’t take good care of him because I might be quite busy re-running my business. Moreover, doesn’t he have to take care of Qin Aye here? As long as Qin Aye is recovered, Youning can be a good helper for him.”

Song Qinghan pursed his lips, asking sharply, “How is he able to accompany with Qin Aye for so long? He is going to be a grown-up one more year later. People will just gossip everywhere behind him if, at that time, they find Youning is still not married. And, you know how tough he is, right? As long as he decided to requite your favors, he will never ever to remarry again. If you just leave him alone and do nothing, he probably will be just really alone in his remaining life.”

Yuan Boshu hesitated for a moment, and then clenched his fists, asking tentatively, “Then maybe I should withdraw the agreement?”

Hearing that, Song Qinghan chuckled and said with no expression, “You should know that it will be quite hard for a femina male who is just kicked out from his husband’s family to remarry a man of fine quality. And the situation is probably worse than that old man who grabbed only fifty silver coins.”

“What’s more, you know exactly the personality Youning has. He is decisive to refuse to remarry, and in the end, he will be lonely all his life.” Song Qinghan continued to say.

Yuan Boshu sighed heavily and slowly said, “So I have brought him a trouble instead of an assistance?”

Seeing that the man was full of guilt, Song Qinghan pondered for a moment and suggested, “If that’s the case, don’t you still have to send your son over? I would suggest that you can go back home alone this time, and next time when you bring your son here, you can take Youning back. How about that? And if you and Youning don’t match at all, I think Youning will give it up in the end. He is just too young to make a right decision thoughtfully.

This suggestion was kind of pertinent, so Yuan Boshu did not retort at all, he nodded, saying, “Fine, I will listen to you. And I will discuss with Youning later about the plan.”

Yuan Boshu is indeed a guy who loves to split hairs either, he is such a considerate person caring so much for Youning. Moreover, no one would really love to hurt or trouble the other intentionally. Those who devote themselves accompanying you along the way are all willing to do so. They are the treasures in your whole life, that will be the most foolish decision to push them away. And once they are really gone, they have gone away.

Before dinner, Laifu came to their house and talked with Wu Dahu for a brief moment. And then this man went away in satisfaction.

Song Qinghan got his heart tightened. He walked over and asked, “The stuff for the trip is all summoned?”

Wu Dahu looked at him and nodded, saying seriously, “I will go with them tomorrow to the town, and once we get the crossbow from the blacksmith, we will leave for the trip.”

Song Qinghan got no reason now to reject the requirement from Wu Dahu because he had promised to his man that he would allow him to. Moreover, Wu Dahu was almost recovered from his injuries which had no influence for his movement at all. So Song Qinghan could only nod, saying, “Fine, please be much careful, and don’t bring any nightmare to me anymore.”

Wu Dahu knew the fact that when he was attacked by the giant bear not long ago, Song Qinghan dreamed about some relevant scene. He was much moved and then held Song Qinghan’s hands to his chest, saying decisively with his eyes full of sincerity, “Don’t worry. I will come back in ten days without getting myself injured.”

“Alright!” answered Song Qinghan with a sudden smile. He knew exactly that his husband wasn’t omnipotent to control everything like getting himself not injured.

After they packed their luggage and discussed for a further details about the trip, Yuan Boshu came back from Qin Aye’s house.

His complexion was not much better than Song Qinghan. It could tell that both of them suffered from the sorrow of the upcoming separation and the fear to the unknown future.

Tonight wasn’t a peaceful night at all for these four people. Each of them had his own anxiety toward something in his mind. Tossing and turning in bed, they found everything was just doomed and all of them had to accept the fact right at the moment the cocks was crowing. The wheel of their fates has to continue to trundle moving forward constantly.

In the morning, Yuan Boshu got all the sacks full of seasoning and spice onto the oxcart with the assistance of Wu Dahu. At an accidental glimpse, he found someone familiar not far away.

“Why are you here? I will come back again, please don’t worry. It should be something bad happens to me if I can’t make it to come back. One hundred silver coins might not be much, but I think at least they are worthy of land of several MU ( *a unit of area in Chinese version), it’s quite enough for life. And as for the other, I feel so so sorry.”

Youning bit his lips and then took out those silver coins in his pocket, and then threw them onto the oxcart. He raised his face high, answering, “I don’t need your money. Take them back and I hope you can run your business smoothly. I will surely wait for you. One month, one year, or my whole life. I will just be waiting till my death.”

After that, he squinted at Yuan Boshu angrily, and then ran away.

Yuan Boshu picked up the pack of silver coins at the corner of the oxcart and was about to say something. But when he raised his head again, he could only find that Youning had run far away. Helplessly, he sighed and then put away the pack of coins in his sleeves.

Song Qinghan withdrew his gaze from Yuan Boshu and then looked at Wu Dahu, saying, “This is 200 silver coins he gave us. I will take half from them and this half is for you. Don’t you say no to me, you should take some coins on you along the trip. And even if you really meet the gang of villains, they won’t be that much of outrage and kill you if you deliver the coins to them. Do you understand?”

Wu Dahu took the money over reluctantly and asked with a smile, “Oh, really? Does it really make sense?”

Seeing that Song Qinghan was delivering him a “Menacing” glance right away, he then continued to say, “Fine, fine. It does make sense. Well, I will take them as my ‘talisman’.”

Speaking of the talisman, something seemed to occur to Song Qinghan all of a sudden. He got his eyes lit up suddenly and then grabbed the arms of Wu Dahu, saying, “Buy a ‘Huxin Mirror’ ( *a round-shaped breast protector) for yourself later when you are going to take the crossbow. And if you can’t find it, just buy a small bronze mirror and put it on your chest. That will be a protection or at least it will bring a peace in mind.”

Wu Dahu didn’t want to make such an unnecessary move at all. In fact, he knew that no matter the part party was the villains or beasts, they would attack the team’s brains instead of their chests. So “Huxin” Mirror wouldn’t work at all. But the way how Song Qinghan stared at him with full of expectation failed him to say anything in rejection. He then answered while pretending to be enlightened, saying, “That’s…a wonderful idea! I will surely buy one!”

After sending Wu Dahu away, Song Qinghan went home alone. He stared at the yard of emptiness, the sense of loneliness came out of nowhere in his mind.

As a pregnant male, he couldn’t do much strength-consuming work. With a great boredom, he commenced inscribing the medical knowledge which he acquired from his college in his modern world on the rice paper.

Wu Dahu was on the same carriage with Laifu. The other three people in this team were already in the town, waiting for them to meet up.

Laifu regained his attention from his sorrow of separation with Zhuer, he then lowered his voice and spoke to Wu Dahu, saying, “The previous two we have in this team are fine. But as for Yin Laosan, the last one I hired, I hope you can be careful to this man. He probably will make some trouble.”

Wu Dahu frowned, asking, “So why did you hire him based on the fact? No one else is willing to join this matter?”

Indeed, this trip is quite a long trip that requires this team to be highly cooperated. If they fail to congregate the strength among the team, it can be predicted that they will surely fail to face all the upcoming risks.

Laifu sighed, patted himself on his forehead and said dejectedly, “Ah, I had been taken leave of my senses. I couldn’t even find a suitable one for this trip at all, so I decided to acquire some news from some street thugs. When I got to know the power of this Yin Laosan guy, I talked to him privately. And he was not bad at all at from the first glance of him and the whole conversation. In this case, I hired him without waiting. I should be much regretful because when I investigated more private details out from his background, I found he is totally a trouble-maker.”

“But what troubles he will make? And what’s the power he got?” asked Wu Dahu.

Laifu’s face was wrinkling, as if there was something sealing his mouth and he was pretty awkward to say something. But pondering for a long while, he lowered his voice and said, “He… He doesn’t like femina man, but man!”

“But!” He seemed to be trying to save himself from this awkwardness as he continued, “He got a wonderful power to disguise! Last time when he showed me his prowess, he just made something on my face, and later I couldn’t even recognize myself in the mirror.”

Seeing Wu Dahu was frowning tight, Laifu got his mind strained, and then he continued to say, “Also! He knows how to make medicine of queerness I have never seen before! I heard that he can make one certain medicine which can keep the beasts away. I’ve seen this magic once, he just poured some powder on the ground, and the snake and ants around evaded all of a sudden.”

Wu Dahu answered expressionlessly, “There are many things that can make snake and ants evade. The most common medical object should be realgar. However, realgar can’t drive beasts away.”

“In addition, if we encounter bandits or gang of villains, what’s the use for disguising? They will just kidnap us no matter how we change our looks.”

Maybe the question of Wu Dahu was too sharp, Laifu became speechless for a brief moment. And then he murmured, “So… So should I withdraw the agreement with him? I’ve heard that he got a bad temper. I’m afraid that he might kidnap us on our way with his group.”

Even though Wu Dahu had a good temper, he could not help but sigh right at this moment.

He would never have thought that Laifu lost his good judgement over this matter. Now, probably there posted some unknown troubles waiting for them in this trip.

Noticing the pitiful glance from Laifu, Wu Dahu came to answer, “Never mind. Let’s just take him in this trip. And let’s see what will happen. If he dares to do something bad, we…”

Lian Fu looked at the gesture Wu Dahu made, he was shocked in mind and then pondered for a while, and then he came to know a fact. If they couldn’t take the initiative to do something, the other party would probably be the one. In this thought, Laifu nodded, answering, “Fine. Since it was me who hired him, then it should be me who ends up any threat.”
