Chapter 62: The Cunning Man

Translator: LiamHW

After discussing about Yin Laosan, the two were silent along the way on the carriage. It was not until they reached the nearby town did Wu Dahu tell Laifu the matter he was about to get his crossbow in the iron shop. He then walked straightly to the iron shop after reaching an agreement with Laifu about the agreed place.

Wu Dahu got the crossbow in the iron shop, he then wore it on his wrist. The crossbow was just becoming invisible as long as Wu Dahu covered it with his sleeve. That was a perfect weapon for Wu Dahu.

Blacksmith pointed to a random place, wanting to see if Wu Dahu really got something.

Wu Dahu raised his hand and pressed the switch without even taking aim at all.

“Swish” The arrow in this crossbow was triggered and launched all of a sudden, stabbing right at the place where the blacksmith pointed at.

With a shock, the blacksmith got himself approach to extract the arrow and then brought it back to Wu Dahu, he praised, “Dahu you’ve really got a perfect martial skill I think. I would say if you are born noble, you would have been a General.”

Wu Dahu smiled and shook his head while putting away the arrow in the crossbow. Frowning, he said, “How do you know if I can’t be in the future?”

Without waiting for the blacksmith to reply, he glanced over at the cornor and found some “Huxin” Mirrors lying there. He approached and then took one of the mirrors and put it in his chest. He then went back to the counter and put down several silver pieces on it, waving hand to the blacksmith and leaving elegantly.

The blacksmith was dumbfounded standing there, it seemed that he had just regained his attention back from the utterance of Wu Dahu. While putting away the silver pieces on the counter, he murmured, “Well, well, he might be… Heroes emerge in times of disorder.”

The five in the team met, and Wu Dahu finally saw the one name Yin Laosan who had been described by Laifu as a “Problematic” man.

The man was in a white long cloth, plain looking. His appearance might be a bit higher than the standard level, but describing it as a face attracting glances would be overstated.

If Wu Dahu didn’t know that this man was a master in disguising, he probably would have been deceived by this man who was now showing an innocent look. After all, the man who kept his mouth shut was now pretending to be sincere.

Before they left the place, Yin Laosan took the initiative to sit with Wu Dahu on the carriage. Laifu was just too late to stop the scene happening, he then chose to take the other carriage without hesitation while giving a hint to Wu Dahu and hoping him stay calm along the way.

Wu Dahu was in charge of carriage. But he could clearly feel some coldness right behind him not long. He then turned his head attempting to check out, only to be shocked by the approaching face of Yin Laosan.

Expressionlessly, he asked, “What’s wrong? You want to control the carriage?”

Yin Laosan smiled and moved his face back, and then said with full of meanings, “You’ve just observed me for a long time. Did you find something queer about me?”

Seeing Wu Dahu shaking his head, he pondered for a moment and then laughed more brightly, saying while raising his eyelids, “Or do you have a crush on me?”

Finally, Wu Dahu recalled the words Laifu had just warned him, he was informed that this guy in front was into man instead of femina man. Taking a further consideration on the words of Yin Laosan, Wu Dahu couldn’t help but frown, then he warned in a low voice, “Stop talking nonsense. Or I will show you no mercy.”

Yin LaoSan commenced laughing even harder, he rolled in the carriage laughing while holding his stomach and pointing at Wu Dahu, saying, “Look how alarmed yourself. Can’t you even take a joke? I’m not a femina man, how will you have a crush on me. HAHAHA!”

Even though Wu Dahu was born with a calm nature, he couldn’t suppress the anger in his mind currently.

Since Yin Laosan found himself was satisfied enough at teasing Wu Dahu, he wiped the tears at the corner of his eyes, asking while rubbing his belly, “Are you married?”

Wu Dahu didn’t want to answer at all, but he found the man approaching again if he just kept silent. With such a reluctance, he answered, “Yes I am.”

“OH~~” Deliberately, Yin Laosan made a long exclaim, and then continued to say, “How is he? Is he good? Doesn’t he grumble about the fact you left him alone?”

At the thought of Song Qinghan, Wu Dahu’s expression instantly softened and he said slowly, “My husband is good enough. though he worried about the risks I might meet along the trip, he still allow me to take this trip as I wish.”

Yin Laosan then said disdainfully, “Well? He did ask you to take the risk only to make money? I can only conceive two scenarios about him, he might be a money slaver, or he wants you to die out here. You should know the best about him, so pick one.”

Hearing him speculate about Song Qinghan’s intentions, Wu Dahu finally couldn’t resist any longer to suppress his rage in mind, retorting in hostility, “How the heck will you know about his thoughts? You’re not my husband! Well, I can predict that you probably have never fallen in love with someone!”

The words of Wu Dahu seemed to be a bit heavy, but Yin Laosan showed no anger on his face at all. He was just being dumbfounded there and then retreated to the corner inside the carriage, saying plainly, “That’s true though. Someone likes me doesn’t deserve to be loved at all. Ugly and with a bad temper.”

Just at the moment when Wu Dahu was pondering if he should console the man inside the carriage or not, Yin Laosan burst into another round of laughter again while holding his own stomach and saying, “Gotcha, HAHAHA. People who love me line up from the South Gate to the North Gate. But I disdain them so much. They are all idiots.”

That was the creepiest laugh Wu Dahu had ever heard. Annoyed, he then waved his hand, and was absorbed in controlling the drive.

Wu Dahu didn’t believe this man at all. No one would really like him unless his head was hit by the wall and got crazy.

Before the sun dipping down and night approaching, the team decided to stop and look for a suitable place for camping.

Yin Laosan put on a big show of sprinkling some powder-like materials in a round. After that, he then sat down right aside the bonfire and did nothing further, as if he had welcomed his epilog of today’s work.

Wu Dahu quietly pinched the powder behind his back, getting them approached to his nose and sniffing. He came to a disappointment when he found out that the powder Yin Laosan sprinkled was exactly the realgar.

Well, he thought that this Yin guy probably would at least show them some surprise. But it turned out that this so-called “Man of Prowess” was just an ordinary one with some small tricks.

But since this guy hadn’t done something evil or been a drag on the team, Wu Dahu didn’t want to trouble him and expose his trick at this moment.

One of the other two in this team was named Wang Yuanbao, he was just like Wu Dahu who was a hunter with vigorous skills. The other was named Wu Decai, he was the one who had had been an escort in transportation.

Though Wang Yuanbao was like Wu Dahu, he was much more introverted than Wu Dahu. What he did was just absorbed in doing his own stuff while not taking a glance at the other people. He was just like a man who indulged himself in his own world.

On the other side, Wu Decai was clinging to Laifu all the time, he approached Laifu for a conversation and then commenced picking up firewood around. And later when Laifu sat down, he sat down either, as if he didn’t want to move at all.

Shaking head, Wu Dahu came to process the prey which were hunted by Wang Yuanbao and started pickling them with his portable seasoning pack. Later on, he placed the processed meat onto the fire and commenced toasting them.

The fragrance of the seasoning gradually spread out, attracting everyone’s attention. Laifu hadn’t tried the flavor of cumin yet, so he was just amazed with his eyes wide-open just as the rest member of the team did and turned his head to Wu Dahu, saying, “Did you find this kind of spice either?”

“Uh-huh.” answered Wu Dahu, and after he placed the other processed meat on the fire, he sat down.

Though Laifu had never tried the flavor out, he showed no doubt at all to this sumptuous dinner which was giving off a tempting fragrance. At the moment the food was served, he couldn’t wait tearing off one of the hind leg of the prey and commenced tasting it.

Yin Laosan then tore off the other hind leg. At the moment when he took the first bite of the meat, he got his eyes wider-open, but he didn’t say anything, seemingly showing no willingness to share his enjoyment.

Wang Yuanbao hesitated for a while, then tentatively and slowly reached out and tore off one of the front leg of the prey. When he took the first bite, he almost choked himself and coughed violently.

The violent cough startled Wu Decai all of a sudden. And then he hesitated if he should grab another front leg or not.

Not until he found out that it was the problem of the roasted meat itself but Wang Yuanbao ate so fast did he reach out again to grab the meat. However, the front leg had already been taken, there left only some bones with scarce meat on.

At the moment he saw Laifu was all eagerness to grab the rest meat, he took the whole stick up to his own, and then commenced biting.

Because Wu Dahu’s seasoning was with a superb flavor, these two full-grown hares weren’t enough to the five at all. Only Laifu and Yin Laosan were satisfied and full, they lay down on the ground and showed any eagerness to move at all. Wu Dahu was full too. But as for Wang Yuanbao and Wu Decai, they still looked underfed.

And later, Wang Yuanbao took some solid food from his package and shared some with Wu Decai. Finally, both of them were good enough.

And then the team was discussing about the order of the night-watch. It was Wu Dahu who took the initiative to take the duty for the times after midnight. Though it would be the most tiring and exhausting hours, it was the risky period when the dangers come, and was the high time for those fierce beasts to hunt outside. Wu Dahu didn’t like to hand his life to other people at all.

However, beyond his expectation, Yin Laosan also recommended himself to the after-midnight duty too.

Though the man was owning a face of sincerity and honesty currently, Wu Dahu still could feel that this man probably would play another tricks. Otherwise, how would someone lazy like him love to take risk rather than to stay peaceful?

But no one showed objection to his decision at all. Thus the agreed order would be: Wu Decai, Wang Yuanbao, Wu Dahu, and then Yin Laosan.

As for Laifu, he was just a man lack of martial skills and was kind of timid. No one would really be at ease to put him on the duty list. Moreover, he was also glad he wouldn’t do that.

Each carriage could only accommodate one person for sleeping, Laifu had already occupied one while the other was possessed by Wu Decai.

Both Wang Yuanbao and Wu Dahu were not men who would fight for something. So when they noticed that the other carriage had been possessed by Wu Decai, they didn’t say anything at all. But the queerest thing was that Yin Laosan looked plain on his face either.

Seeing Yin LaoSan running over and getting approach, Wu Dahu frowned and said, “You want to sleep here in this side? Then I will sleep there.”

Shaking head, Yin Laosan answered with a grinning face, “Let’s sleep close to each other. At least we can take care of each other if something bad happens. Right?”

After that, he sat down right aside Wu Dahu, blinking and waiting for the reply.

Without words, Wu Dahu straightened up and then walked away to the other side.

However, when he sat down in the other side, Yin Laosan followed up as if he was an annoying fly, buzzing around.

Back and forth, Wu Dahu changed the places for several times but he failed to get rid of this awful worm. And in thinking that this would just be a time-wasting action, he decided to let go and then picked a random spot, throwing his baggage on the ground and lying on his side.

Yin Laosan laughed and just followed Wu Dahu’s lead, he threw his baggage on the ground, and then lay down on his back, placing his hands crossed on his belly and sleeping peacefully.

When Yin Lao San opened his eyes again, it was already the next morning. And when he straightened up, he just noticed that Wu Dahu was making breakfast there. He couldn’t help but ask in dubious tone, “OH! It’s morning now! Why didn’t you wake me up when it was my duty? Did you take my place?”

Speechlessly, Wu Dahu looked at him. It seemed that he didn’t want to talk with him at all.

Something seemed to occur to Yin Laosan all of a sudden, he then clapped his hands aloud, saying with a grinning face, “AH, I forgot the fact that once I fall asleep, it would be hard for others to wake me up unless I wake up myself. I won’t be able to awake even though the sky is going to collapse. I’m so sorry about that. And thanks a lot, Brother Dahu.”
