Add A Little Lightning

Ozpin: Ms Farron, do you know why you've been brought here?

Right now Lightning was sitting on the other side of a desk with Ozpin sitting on the other end and Glynda to the side of him, but the strangest part was the Crow sitting on the windowsill. The crow itself wasn't the odd part, it was how high its level was. According to the Level system, this bird was just as strong as Lightning's mother Claire and the name above the Crow's head read "Qrow Branwen".

Lightning disregarding the Crow for the moment stoically answered Ozpin.

Lightning: Because I did my duty to "Protect the peace".

Glynda: You call sending 8 students to the infirmary PROTECTING THE PEACE?!

Lightning: If that's how you want to twist my actions then sure that is what I call it.

Ozpin: Do you understand the position you're currently in?

Lightning: More or less.

Ozpin: Depending on how this conversation goes, you could be kicked out of Beacon. And you are aware of this?

Lightning: Thought as much

Ozpin: Do you have anything to say in your defence?

Lightning: My actions don't need any defence, put in the same position I'd do it again.

Glynda: ARROGANCE! DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE WE WON'T EXPEL YOU?!

Lightning: Then expel me, it's clear my ideals don't align with yours. You allow racial discrimination in your grounds but still pretend to be righteous. You're just a bunch of hypocrites.

Ozpin: Enough you two. Ms Farron, can you please take a seat outside until we come to a decision.

Lightning still expressionless leaves the room. After the door closes the crow transform into a man whose looks to be in his early 30s with black hair. If Lightning had still been in the room, she'd recognise him instantly as Ruby's uncle Qrow and confirmed her speculation.

Ozpin: Thoughts?

Qrow: I like her. From someone who witnessed that kid being bullying firsthand at Signal, it's not surprising she has zero-tolerance for it. Also, they had it coming.

Glynda: We can't indulge her, no matter what her reasons are. She injured 8 students and that cannot be ignored.

Qzpin: She's far too talented to be allowed to leave. If I were to expel her and she ends up in her hands. The damage she could cause after being trained is unfathomable…

Ozpin suddenly has an idea and pulls out a scroll from his pocket and proceeds to look through his contacts stopping at the name "James". After dialling and speaking for a while he puts his phone away and looks at the two people in front of him.

Ozpin: Glynda may you call her back in. I've come up with a compromise.

Glynda immediately leaves completely trusting whatever decision Ozpin has come up with no thoughts of questioning him in the slightest. After seeing Lightning patiently sitting on the chairs provided outside the headmaster office, she instructs her to come in.

After coming back in Lightning doesn't see anything different and still has her suspicion of the crow on the windowsill facing towards her. Lightning was snapped out of her staring contest with the crow by Ozpin's voice.

Ozpin: We've agreed on what your punishment should be.

Lightning: So, I'm being punished for that huh... What is it?

Ozpin: The criminal you apprehended when we met was broken out of custody after being transferred to Atlas' soldiers.

Lightning: Why did Atlas get involved in Vale business, to begin with?

Ozpin: Roman and his crew had been stealing Dust among all 4 kingdoms which heavily effected the Schnee Dust company. The Schnee's used their influence on the council of Atlas to have Roman transferred over to them for interrogation. We believe they intended to find out where all the stolen dust is in hope to have their loses reimbursed but that didn't come to pass. Now that someone notorious as Roman escaped their custody, they would rather keep it a secret and quickly right their mistake.

Lightning: So, it's just a political mess but what does any of that have to do with my punishment?

Ozpin: I've gotten permission for you to cooperate with James Ironwood's right hand, Winter Schnee to recapture Roman.

Lightning: James Ironwood?

Ozpin: He's a General in Atlas's army and sits on their kingdom's council. All you need to know he's important and someone I would consider a friend.

Lightning: Okay... Winter Schnee? The same Schnee as Weiss I assume.

Ozpin: Indeed, they're sisters. Winter happens to be the older sister of the two. She abandoned the right to inherit the Schnee Dust Company to pursue a military career if you want to know why you'd have to ask her.

Lightning: I understand. Is there anything else I need to know plus how long will I be cooperating with them?

Ozpin: The women who broke Roman out is also a person of interest and is considered highly dangerous. We know very little about her even her Semblance is still unknown so be careful. As for time… As long as it takes to recapture him.

Lightning: You're being serious, aren't you?

Ozpin nods and smiles at the pink-haired girl who was growing more agitated.

Lightning: And for my team?

Ozpin: You will appoint a new captain until your return.

Lightning: So you expect me after only having my team for the matter of a week to leave and return in what could possibly be years later and resume my place as their captain on my return?

Ozpin: Indeed

Lightning: (Sigh) Whatever… When will I have to depart?

Ozpin: Winter will be here tomorrow morning to pick you up

Lightning: If that's the case, may I be excused I need to get my accounts in order

Ozpin: You may

Lightning promptly leaves leaving behind Beacon's headmaster, Huntress Glynda and a silent crow. After seeing her leave the Crow turns back into his human form and whimsically remarks

Qrow: She took it a lot better than I expected

Glynda: Hmph!

Ozpin: Now back to business, Qrow I can only trust you with this mission I need you to keep recon on the Grimm's movements. I suspect Salem will make her move soon.

Qrow who now looks uncharacteristically serious nods while grabbing the file from Ozpin's outstretched hand.

Lightning swiftly makes her way through Beacon Academy ignoring the onlookers who are still staring at her from the distance. Even after a week of attending Beacon, she still manages to attract people's attention just from her appearance alone.

Once arriving outside her dorm room, she enters without knocking and catches Serah who wasted no time to hug her and frenziedly asked.

Serah: What happened?!

Lightning goes on to explain her punishment in detail including her previous encounter with Roman not leaving out that's why she was accepted early into this academy.

Weiss: Who are you appointing as the interim captain?

Lightning: I've given it some thought and I'm appointing Serah to lead in my place

Weiss: WHY?! AREN'T YOU SHOWING TOO MUCH FAVOURITISM TOWARDS YOUR FAMILY?!

Lightning: Firstly calm down, secondly no. I just believe she's best suited to lead in my place.

Blake: I trust your decision but why?

Lightning: You three don't have the people skills needed to lead in my opinion. Pyrrha while being an excellent combatant has very little experience with her peers, Blake self-reserved nature would make her too passive and finally, Weiss' perfectionist mentally will hamper or possibly damage the cohesion within our group. Whereas Serah led her team in Signal so she has the experience needed.

Pyrrha: I see it's only temporary anyway. How long is this mission for?

Lightning: Until I capture Roman, so it could be years.

Serah/Weiss/Blake/Pyrrha: WHAT?!

Blake: You're our captain what are they thinking?! All you did was stand up for one of u-!!! A Faunus.

Weiss: You best catch him quick, our team needs its captain

Weiss starts blushing but after being called a tsundere by Lightning she returns to being an "Ice Queen" and stares daggers at her "needed captain".

Pyrrha: I know you're strong but be safe. And make sure to come back in one piece

Serah:(Mumbles) If something happens to you. I'll get mum to help me burn Beacon down with Ozpin inside.

Lightning: 'Please stop saying something so scary with an innocent smile sis'
