Add A Little Lightning

Chapter 17 - 17 – Departing

After leaving her team behind to find Ruby and Yang, Lightning headed towards their dorm room which happened to be next door to them. Lightning explained the situation and their reactions were similar to her team's except for the rest of Team Ruby while being sympathetic had a hint of indifference.

Which made sense except for their time in the forest Lightning had made zero effort in socialising with Nora, Ren and Jaune. While their teams were always glued to the hip that didn't mean Lightning had become close to them.

From Lightning's respective they weren't part of her team so she saw no point in 'making an effort' to befriend them.

In contrast, Ruby had already befriended Lightning's team consisting of 3 socially inept individuals. Lightning speculated that maybe this was fate's doing but had no way of finding out and it wasn't like it was entirely a bad thing either.

The next day Lightning was waiting around in the main courtyard for Atlas' soldiers to pick her up with Team Light and Ruby in attendance. A white-haired beauty stepped off the landing airship. The sophisticated looking woman approached the teams and walked straight past Lightning and went towards Weiss.

Anyone could tell that the two white-haired girls were in some way related to one and other. Following their heart-warming reunion which Weiss confused Winter's concern over her sister as some sort of progress report.

Winter concluding her conversation flipped her personality like a switch returning to a professional Mindstate. She gave Lightning a once-over sizing up the girl and was unquestionably unimpressed as you'd expect from seeing a 15-year-old girl. Lightning didn't need an ability to read minds to tell how unimpressed Winter seemed to be.

Winter: So, you're Lightning?

The clear disinterest in Winter's voice was apparent for everyone in earshot. Lightning knew she was being looked down on due to her age and put in the same position as Winter would probably act in the same manner but that didn't stop her from feeling aggrieved by it.

As you'd expect no matter the reason when someone is disrespecting you it's still unpleasant. Thanks to this feeling of being aggrieved her tongue was sharper than usual.

Lightning: And you must be Ironwood's right hand whose family caused this 'incident' due to their greed.

Lightning promptly ignores the daggers shes receiving by Weiss behind her and smiles provokingly Winter.

Winter: Just like the report says a complete disregard for superiors.

Lightning: (sarcastically) Sorry for not being an ideal soldier. PLUS I haven't said anything to someone "superior" than me.

Blake's worry only increased further after seeing Lightning's first encounter with Winter. This worry made her tentatively approach Weiss.

Even though Blake hadn't in any way influenced Lightning's decision to interfere with a Faunus being bullied. This didn't make her feel any less responsible. The guilt stemmed from herself not being the one who helped.

Blake: Will She be okay?

Weiss: They Will be. Even though Lightning likes to get under people's skin when push she comes to shove, we all witnessed it in the forest. She can be one of the most reliable people you'll meet and my sister would never allow personal feelings to get in the way of her mission. There's a reason she's so high up inside the Atlas military at her age.

Ruby who was in ears reach decided to inject to ease Blake's worries

Ruby: Besides this is just like the first time she meet Weiss. And now Weiss and Lightning are quite close. Plus, I have a bad feeling that when Light comes back Winter will become "competition"…

Nora/Jaune/Ren: Competition?

Yang: (Sigh) So it wasn't just my gut feeling...

Lightning bids farewell to her friends and leaves following an annoyed-looking Winter. Winter didn't even as much as talk to Lightning on the way to the Airship with the Atlas guards also standing nearby it looked more like Lightning was being arrested than joining their unit.

The soldiers whose level's never surpassed level 20 were making demeaning remarks to one and other about Lightning's inclusion loud enough for all to hear.

It was obvious that Lightning wasn't welcomed in the least. Sarah being the more vocal among the group couldn't stop herself from vocalising her irritation about Ozpin including her sister into this mess.

Serah: Just what is he thinking?!

Yang: I know how your feeling, but all we can do is trust her at this point.

Serah: Sending a 15-year-old to capture a world-renown criminal because of school dispute! How utterly stupid!

No-one present could think of anything to rebuke the angered elder sister because they were also asking the same questions to themselves. A school intended to train warriors, punishing someone for fighting. It was illogical.

Blake: Isn't Light's Mum working here? Why hasn't she done anything?

Ruby/Yang: "Light"?

Blake: (Blushes) I-I mean Lightning.

Yang: Ruby... We let our guard down.

Ruby: IT HAS ONLY BEEN A WEEK?!

While the sisters were falling into despair an upperclassman sporting a black beret and shades accompanied by a Faunus who had brown bunny ears. Walked up to the group. You could tell instantly by how the girl carried herself that she was self-assured with her abilities.

???: Looks like we missed her Velvet

Velvet: I didn't get to say thank you

The Beret wearing girl looks at Serah piecing together that she must have something to do with Lightning and smoothly asked.

???: When will she be back?

Serah simply shrugs her shoulders seeing no reason to explain the situation or lie about it either.

Coco: I see when she comes back. Would you mind telling me? The names Coco captain of Team CFVY I want to thank her for what she did to help our Velvet here.
