Ignite: The Archangels Chronicles

Chapter 22 - Thirteen magic wielders

Three weeks had passed, and after a scolding from Nadie to dial down her powers lest she attract the death dealers with her magic alone, the fights tended to last much longer. Moving mostly to hand to hand combat, Azreal would be quite bruised and battered if Angels blood hadn't been pumping through her veins. Even after she toned down her magic, Jasper still looked at her as if she was his prized pony.

When Azreal wasn't fighting she was training with her thirteen magic weilders. Cameron always insisting on having a healer around during training sessions, was as hard to shake as ever. Lucia was sassy, brave, and always looking to impress Cameron with her agility and magical abilities. Eros was quiet and his imposing build wasn't exactly welcoming, but he was the sweetest and most thoughtful of their group. Bea was what Azreal imagined a princess to be, she had such grace that she always seemed to float about like a beautiful specter, light glancing off her molten cinnamon skin, while woodland creatures followed her. That wasn't a complete exaggeration either, Bea could speak to animals and often had little 'buddies' as she called them, running around her. Nyx, and Jara the trickster twins were slowly breaking her shell, and Azreal began to fall into a pattern with these people. Each one of them becoming a friend rather than a stranger she had crawled out of hell with.

With a few weeks of proper feeding the seven others had started practicing as well.

There was Boah and Lynn, They we're brother and sister, Boah being Six years older, still with the same Phoenix shaped yellow eyes, and silk black hair, it was easy to see the relation. They were weapons masters, but what they had never learned under fear of being hunted down by death dealers and thrown in one of their camps, even though it ended up happening anyway, was Lynn's very rare affinity for Air, and Boah's earth magic.

The next wielder to come out of their shell was Zarin, a young illusionist of about nineteen. His dark skin and silver/white eye's were already alluring, but his looks could leave you dazed if you looked to long, or he turned his powers on you. His charm was magnetic and he fit in easily with our little group.

Vessa was in her mid thirties and had beautiful auburn hair that tumbled down to frame a pair almond shaped emerald eyes, and dark freckles graced her tanned cheeks. She was not nessicarily an earth bender, it was more that she could encourage plants and insects to grow or to help her in dire situations.

Quinn was Vessa's son, he was sixteen like Nyx and Jara. Quinn didn't inherit his mothers auburn tresses, or emerald eyes. No Quinn had mousy brown hair that never seemed to want to stay in place. He did have Vessa's tanned skin and smattering of freckles though. He was a quit boy and it seemed fitting that he would have a water affinity, he appeared calm but she knew there was rage underneath the surface, they all hard stories of loss.

And last but not least, our married couple. They were quite old and were taken from the same village as Cameron. Jess was a blonde haired blue eyed Witch from the Isles of Timpie, and had migrated here to be with her husband, Tarquin, after many years of servitude in the weapons making armament, only to be met with slavery and tragedy. They're only daughter was taken from them, and enslaved while they had been thrown in a death camp. Jess was a bit more bitter, than her husband and wasn't very conversational.

Tarquin's skin was wrinkled and had a greenish hue to it making his Fae ancestry obvious. He had water magic, and the enhanced sight, strength, and hearing of a Fae. Tarquin had taken a shine to Quinn, and was trying to mentor him on water wielding.

Nadie was now the tribes mother hen, always squawking about making sure everyone is fed and clothed. She even began teaching the little ones how to read and write in one of the many grand living rooms in the overtly extravagant manor.

It was barley dawn and Azreal was eating honeyed oats with Lucia at the spacious kitchen kneading table where the servants were fluffing and rolling the days bread when that feeling came back.

It crept up her shoulders and made the fine hairs on the back of her neck stand up.

It almost felt like an out of body experience. Azreal could feel the strings of fate twisting, she just couldn't read them.

Only oracles and sight witches were able to do that, and the only one powerful enough to do so in over a millennia was the False Kings second in command, Ithane Yisma Yeerin, and even she could barley control the visions after centuries of living in the Acre Mortem Mountains with the Shamans.

Lucia seemed completely undisturbed by her sudden reaction and stiffness, and continued munching on her breakfast contentedly. Azreal's forehead knit together as she concentrated on that feeling trying to suss out where it was originating from.

Lucia nudged her with an elbow saying, "You alright, there?" A weary look crossed her face.

"Yeah, Yeah, I'm still just groggy from last nights fight." Azreal replied rubbing the back of her neck.

Lucia could tell she was lying but decided to let it go and asked, " Well I hope your ready for tonight, Jaspers alleged best fighters will be in the pits," she wagged her eyebrows as she continued "Word around the market is they're Demon twins from Phanes, and they have been contracted to Jasper for two summers now as his personal mercenaries."

Azreal let out a low whistle as she thought about all the complications this would cause.

Phanes is the Northern most continent, known for its Black Guard (the nations brutal military) and their shippers. They also make the majority of vessels seen at shipping docks, no matter which continent your on.

"I'm just going to assume they're ex- Black Guard?" Azreal grumped out, frustrated, crossing her arms.

Lucia gave her a sly look and said, "would it even be worth it if they weren't?" Trying to make light of the situation.

Azreal took a deep breath and remembered the other half of her problem. They were Demons, which means it would be extremely difficult to hide her Angels powers. If they were as powerful as Lucia was leading on, then this wasn't going to be an easy match either, and she could only use earth magic to help her.

"I'm guessing he's going to want a one on one fight since jasper wouldn't want his toys hurting each other." Azreal tapped her chin and asked "Would you go into town and try and find out which one i might be fighting and what form his magic takes?"

Demon magic was tricky, it could manifest in different forms as children, but as a demon grows into a.d.u.l.t hood they usually pick one or two forms to concentrate on and it is always either a elemental affinity or it manifests as a dark mist, not unlike Azreals own personal magic.

Lucia nodded and scooped up the last bit of her oats, stuffing her mouth, and set her bowl in the large basin for cleaning.

As she rushed out the door Azreal called "Oh, and take the twins!" Jara and Nyx were perfect little shadows, no one even seemed to notice them.

Lucia shouted her goodbyes as she hurried out the door, and Azreal huffed out a long breath dreading tonights fight, and the amount of control she would have to master in order to keep this whole charade from crashing down..
