Ignite: The Archangels Chronicles

Chapter 23 - Demon Twins

The usually loud crowd was roaring tonight, Azreals palms were sweating as she gazed into the stadium. The air was different tonight, fuller, that feeling had laid crossed her shoulders like a lazy feline and hasn't moved an inch. Azreal knew something was going to happen tonight that would change things, and she knew she was following fates trap by staying here and facing whatever was to come.

She wanted to vomit, instead her eyes met with Lucias as her friend leaned against a thick pillars near the stadiums exit. Luce gave her a nod, eyes filled with determination, sending her strength in the only way she could. Almost imperceptibly Azreal nodded back. That's when Azreal noticed all thirteen of her magic weilders where there, and they were all standing together, their chins raised and backs straight.

Azreals nostrils flared, and she wiped her palms on her pants, seeing her people stand in solidarity with her, was making Azreal feel more confident. Clearing her throat and strengthening her spine Azreal called out to Jasper "Are your Fighters coming, or are they to scared to fight a women?!"

Jasper had cornered some poor servant, and had his tongue jammed down her throat when he heard Azreals jab and his head snapped up. Pushing the girl aside, she fell like a sack of grain from his l.a.p, and quickly wiped herself off and repositioned herself at his feet as he snarled "You dare insult me in my own house?!" At this the stadium quieted and Azreal could feel the weight of all the eyes in the stadium landing on her. "You would think to stall this match as long as possible so you can live a few more pathetic seconds, but it appears you are too stupid to understand survival!" He spit. Azreal could tell he was drunk, and she had picked a bad night to smart off to him.

Just then a Silver haired man entered the sand pit and lounged against the wall. A shadow crossed over his face covering his eyes but it was easy to see he was ruggedly handsom, his strong jaw line would make any women swoon, not to mention he was built like an ox, all lean muscles and harsh lines.

This must be Minx.

Lucia and the twins had come back with quite a bit of information. She knew this male was ex-Black Guard, his powers manifested in demon mist and water, and he was about 250 years old, young for his kind, and his twin brother Belial was also ex- black guard but where his twin had silver hair and a water affinity, Belial had ink black hair and fire magic.

Azreal preferred to fight the water wielder knowing his powers wouldn't be nearly as strong in a sand pit, where as a fire wielder would thrive in this environment. She smirked a little, feeling even more confident having lucked out with fighting the water twin.

Then he pulled out two long swords from behind his back and all of a sudden Azreal didn't feel lucky at all. His muscled arms griped the hilts with an unforgiving grip. The sheer malice on his face shone as he stepped fully from the shadows his crystal blue eye emanated a killing glow as he approached Azreal slowly. A dark mist spread out around him as he picked up his pace.

Azreal began erupting the ground underneath the mans feet, but he seemed to know where she was going to attack next and easily dodged her attacks.

Switching up tactics Azreal drew out her long knives, cursing herself a fool for not choosing her own long sword needing the distance it would put between them when another man entered the pit from behind her. Jasper must have been watching her tactics in the other fights and made sure these two would be able to take me down.

Azreal began to sweat again. Jasper had no honor pitting two against one.

Just as Minx advanced on her Azreal mirrored his moves and rushed him shoving her knee up into his goin as hard as she could. Minx grunted loudly and struck the side of Azreal's head clumsily with his sword hilt as he involuntarily crouched down, catching his breath. Azreal used these few precious seconds to round house him in the face, only to have Minx growl and catch her foot.

She knew the other twin was almost upon her, the feeling she's had all day was building up causing a pressure against her skull. Azreal twisted around with her ankle still in Minx's grip and she raised her long knives to block the other twins blow from behind.

Azreal's eyes met Belial's green ones through the gaps in their blades.

The air went taught, every fiber of her being felt electrified, time slowed.

And the next second Minx had yanked her back and Azreal landed flat on her a.s.s with a loud "Oof". Minx's sword came up against her throat, and as she swallowed a thin line of blood leaked from his blade.

But Azreal was stunned, she tried to shake it off, but instead her eyes search for him, to see his reaction.

Belial's hulking form was staring at her, puzzled, and she felt Minx tense up ready to slit her throat, Belial croaked out "no," jerking his head Back and forth seeming to try and shake off the same daze she was feeling "get off her." He ground out, as he holstered his sword walking towards them. She could feel his twins hesitation, before Minx's arms slowly went slack, and the blade was removed from her pale throat.

Minx backed away from Azreal asking "Be, are you feeling alright?" His voice was incredulous but she could hear the worry behind his words.

Belial acted like he hadnt even heard him as he slowly crouched down in front of Azreal and tilted his head to the side. His eyes looked glazed over, like he wasn't fully in control of himself. His instincts had taken over as he leaned in and slowly licked the blood from Azreals throat.

His rough tounge was hot against her skin and she let out a low m.o.a.n.

That snapped her back to reality and she gasped, frantically crawling backwards in the sand, shaking her head 'What the hell was wrong with her?!'

"Whaa, what, what's going on?" Azreal stammered out dumbly, shaking her head once again, all the sounds of the stadium coming back to her at once. The noise from the crowd alone was deafening.

Jasper was screaming "KILL HER!" Over and over again, and Minx was looking around the stadium uncomfortably, his eyes resting on his twin as he harshly whispered "What's going on Belial? If we don't kill this girl, we lose our contract. What's wrong with you?!" Minx marched over and grabbed up his brother, shaking him harshly.

This seemed to snap Belial out of his trance, but all Azreal could think about when he stood up was how lean his muscular body was, and what it would feel like to be pressed up against him, for those rough hands to explore the soft parts of her body.

Shocked at her own thoughts, Azreal blew out a frustrated breath and tried to concentrate on how she was going to get herself out of this, but her eyes remained glued to his. This yearning was new, something she had never felt before, and most definitely didn't understand.

'What is going on with me?' Azreal thought frantically.
