20. Destination: Stardust Mountain

Mirrocle was a student of the magic school “House of Mirrors” and was just graduated from the school. His senior brothers and sisters, who had gone to eliminate demons, mostly encountered ferocious ghosts. But for some reason, every fairy and demon he came across was related to animals.

So it made sense that Frost secretly thought that he was with the Wildlife Conservation Association. Mirrocle had also considered whether he should join the Association as well.

Luckily, the Tracking Spell worked both for fairies and for ghosts. Mirrocle extracted the fairy aura of the Man in Black from the cracked wall. Then he took out a yellow paper crane from his backpack and recited words that Frost couldn’t understand. It was the first time Frost saw a magician practice spells with his own eyes. The yellow paper crane was ignited but it just kept burning without ever turning into ashes.

The paper crane flapped its burning wings and flew outside. Murk stepped on Mirrocle’s shoulder and turned back to urged Frost to follow them.

The fact that the lit paper crane flew was completely against the deep belief Frost had in science education, but he meeting a fox fairy also had nothing to do with science.

There was one more thing that Frost didn’t say. Ever since Murk told him that Larry was a fox fairy, Frost knew that the young man in his dreams was very possibly Larry.

Technically, he couldn’t say that they were dreams, as there were several times when he woke up in the morning, he felt that his lips had gone numb and that his body felt a little painful.

The little fox must have done that to him. After he saved the fox, he would settle the score with him.

In Frost’s vehicle, the two people and a cat went after the paper crane and sped out of the city. Frost was worried about how they should explain it when other people saw the burning paper crane. Mirrocle saw that Frost was worried and explained, “I’ve cast an Invisibility Spell on it, so ordinary people can’t see it.”

What he didn’t say was that logically speaking, Frost shouldn’t have seen it either.

Frost was too suspicious. Yet, he looked like he didn’t know anything. Right now what concerned Mirrocle the most was how Larry was doing. As for all those strange things about Frost, he decided to put them aside and deal with them later.

Frost knew where the paper crane was headed. It seemed to be…heading towards the mountain in the 4A-level scenic resort in City Hawthorn.

Mirrocle also saw the huge billboard: Welcome to Stardust Mountain!

The two people and the cat got out of the car to buy tickets, and the ticket collector told them that they should keep their pet close to them or it might get lost in the mountain.”

Though Murk grew up in City Hawthorn and he had never been to any scenic areas, he had watched lots of TV.

“Meow-meow-meow-meow. (The TV says that fairies live in remote mountains, but we have to buy tickets to get in there.)” Although as a cat, he didn’t need to pay for his entrance.

But given that they were all animals, why did people need to buy tickets in order to enter the fox fairies’ lair?

Mirrocle looked at Frost blankly. Murk finally came back to him, and he really wanted to know every word that Murk said.

Frost snorted silently and translated, “He said why people needed to buy tickets to get into the fox fairies’ lair.”

“Hahaha, my thoughts exactly. But the Man in Black who caught Larry isn’t necessarily a fox fairy. Once, I saw a boar fairy at a zoo in State Sapodilla. At first, I thought he was caught and taken there by humans, but later, I found out that the boar fairy thought he could have free meals and free accommodation in the zoo, so he got in there himself.” Mirrocle dealt with the fairies quite often, and he had met many strange ones.

Stroking Murk’s head, he sighed, “It would be great if you could become a fairy, Murky.”

Murk stopped talking.

About this topic, Frost did not know what to say. Was it a good thing to become a fairy for animals? The three of them fell silent for a moment.

It was unknown how long Larry had stayed in that completely dark and quiet space. He thought it had been a long time, but in reality, Larry had only stayed there for a few hours.

When he saw the light again, he found that he was in a valley. It was very beautiful. There were green grasses and pretty flowers everywhere, and there was a small stream, and a quaint courtyard.

It was just beautiful, so beautiful that it looked unreal.

‘I know that fairies have magic power, but this is just too fictitious! Don’t think I can’t tell that you guys copy the landscape from the online games!’

But Larry dared not say it out loud. Although the landscape might be fake, the fairies who could create this illusion were all real.

After the Man in Black brought Larry to the courtyard, he disappeared. Larry saw that an old man with gray hair and a ruddy complexion was seated on the main seat and he looked very grandfatherly.

“It’s only been a short time since you went down the mountain, and you can’t even recognize your Master?” But when he spoke, he didn’t sound kind at all.

He sounded quite authoritative. Larry was now a fox. He was already very weak, and he was intimidated by the old man. He lay on the ground like a fox pie.

‘Damn it! I haven’t said anything yet. Isn’t it too early for you to scare me like that?’

“Tcha…Tchacha-chacha-chacha-chow! (No, Master! There is a reason for that! Please let me explain!)” ‘What should I explain? That your apprentice died long ago, and I’m not your apprentice and you’ve got the wrong fox?’

If he really said that, the old man would kill him directly. In novels, the person whose soul got into someone else’s body was either the protagonist or the big villain.

If Larry told the truth, he would definitely be dead.

He quickly searched the memories of the little fox and stuttered, “I went to get the treasure as you ordered. On the way back, I met a sinister woman, Albizia. She injured me. Later, I was picked up by a human. I didn’t come back because I’ve lost my memory.)”

‘There should be no problem for that. Yes, memory loss is very common in transmigration novels. I really can’t remember the details, so Master, please don’t ask any more questions!’

“Humph, you lost your memory?” Hearing the old man’s ambiguous tone , Larry had his heart in his mouth.

“Crack!” With a sharp sound, the table beside the old man was split into pieces, scaring the shit out of Larry.

“Gee-gee gee… (I… Master, what I said is true. Master, please believe me!)” His small body was definitely not as sturdy as a table. A wise man doesn’t fight when the odds are against him., and a true man always remains resilient!

“The loss of your memory makes you forget the road back to the mountain, but it does not make you forget the techniques of the Evelynn Foxclan! You increased your cultivation by absorbing the spiritual power of a mortal. You have not forgotten this kind of low-level technique! Since you have violated the rules and disobeyed me, you’ll be punished according to the clan rules! Now as your master, I’ll give you one last chance, what else do you have to say?” The old man didn’t want to listen to his explanation at all. From the moment Larry entered, the patriarch of the Astraea Foxclan, the Master of Larry, discovered that he had the disgusting smell of spiritual power by using the despicable technique of the Evelynn Foxclan.

Larry was a fox fairy of the Astraea Foxclan. The Astraea Foxes pursued pure spiritual energy and looked down upon the Evelynn Foxes who absorbed all kinds of spiritual power, foul and pure. In Astraea Foxes’ eyes, the Evelynn Foxclan was a dirty, evil cult.

Since ancient times, the Evelynn Foxclan was arrogant and reckless. And that was why human beings had this ingrained impression that foxes were wanton and evil.

Larry was a pure-blooded Astraea Fox and a direct disciple of the Patriarch of the Astraea Foxclan. But Larry had learned and practiced the skills of the Evelynn Foxclan. No wonder his Master would be so furious!
