Marvel: My Own Path

Chapter 16 - Pyrokinesis

As the radiance of the purple gem intensified, the rate of fiery bursts from Jade's body started to subside until a few seconds later, it completely died down.

At that moment, Fury, Natasha, and Sharon whose uniform was a bit scorched, couldn't help but look at the sibling in absolute shock.

Natasha muttered under her breath. "One of them displays the pinnacle of fighting ability while the other one emits flames like a human torch."

Fury and Sharon: "..."

Seeing that his sister's rapid breathing finally returned to normal, Skye stared at Sharon and asked. "What happened here?"

Fury and Natasha also looked at Sharon, expecting some answers.

Sharon felt a little bit guilty as she replied. "I thought that you already told Jade about your parent's real profession so I told her that your parents—"

Skye interrupted her before she could finish. "So you told her that our parents worked for S.H.I.E.L.D?"

"Yes."

"And you also told her that our parents died during a mission they carried out?"

"...yes."

Skye picked up Jade's petite body in his arms and sighed when he heard Sharon's answers.

"Since we're done here, we're going home," said Skye to Fury.

He didn't even wait for their response as Skye dashed out of the room with Jade, the silver mask reappearing on his face.

After entering the same elevator they had used earlier, he pressed the button for the ground floor and at that moment, Jade's eyes weakly opened.

"Brother...where are we? What happened?" she asked, still a bit dazed.

"We're on our way home." When she wiggled within Skye's arms, he put her down and supported her when she tried standing.

"Ah!"

But at that moment, tiny sparks of flames suddenly emitted from Jade's body, seeking to burn him.

Feeling the intensity of the flames, although it couldn't sear through the Coat of Midnight, Skye still condensed his Qi which surrounded his body, immediately dissipating the flames.

The next second, the fear in Jade's eyes turned into amazement when she saw the magical golden aura flowing around her brother's body.

"Brother, what just happened to me? And what's that golden glowy light around you?" she asked, unable to comprehend what was going on.

Skye smiled and answered honestly. "This golden energy that you see is called Qi, it can also be called Life Force, an invisible energy present within all living things throughout this world."

"Qi...?" Jade muttered, still a bit confused.

"As for the flames earlier, those came from you." chuckled Skye.

"Ah? From me?" Surprised, the little girl's mouth turned to the shape of 'o' when she heard his words.

'Those flames came from me? But how?' she asked in her heart.

Skye nodded his head. "Little sister, this world is way bigger than you could ever think of. There are all kinds of people with miraculous abilities just like yours. And you, you have the ability to conjure and control fire."

"Really? Me? Control fire?" although she saw what happened earlier, Jade still had a hard time processing everything.

"Yes. Some people call the ones like you, with mystical abilities above a normal human's capabilities, Mutants."

At that moment, Jade shuddered and asked, fear clearly present in her trembling voice. "Mutant... brother, am I a freak? Am I a monster?"

Hearing her words, Skye paused for a moment before laughing loudly. "How could that be?! Freak? Monster? Nonsense! If my gifted, cute little sister is a freaky monster, then all the humans in this world are but beasts."

"Phew." Jade sighed in relief, the worry in her heart vanishing. She then smiled at Skye. "I thought that brother wouldn't want me anymore since I'm a weird mutant now..."

Skye was silent for a second before saying. "My dear sister, although in my eyes you are nothing but a pure-hearted angel, there are bound to be people in this world that will be afraid of you, or rather, of your gifts."

His expression turned serious. "However, remember this! The labels that the people of this world put upon you can't and shouldn't change who you are—you are your own self!"

Jade nodded her head, putting her brother's words in her heart. "Then... what should I be like then?"

"You? Hmm..." Skye thought for a moment before pinching and pulling both her cheeks. "That's for you to decide...okay? Just continue being you, your big brother here will make sure that you don't walk on the wrong path."

'I'll make sure that you don't walk the same bloody path that I've walked upon on my past life.' he thought.

A bit annoyed, Jade slapped his hands down before grinning adorably. "Then I'll just rely on you okay? You can't take back your words now, I'll be your cute little sister forever!"

Skye's heart melted at her words as he replied in a serious face. "Good good good! If anyone dares bully you and call you names in the future, just tell your big brother here, I'll fix them up for you!"

"Hahaha," Jade laughed for a few moments before asking another question. "But brother, my ability to control fire, where did it come from?"

*Ding!*

Just as Skye was about to answer, he was suddenly reminded that they were still in the elevator when he heard the elevator's sound telling them they were now on the ground floor.

"I'll tell you when we get home. Oh right, I also have a gift for you, I'll give it to you later," he said as they both stepped out of the lift.

As Skye held the small glass vial that had a deep blue liquid within, and read it's description, he couldn't help but nod his head.

'A superior serum compared to this world's original one? Amazing! System, how much is this Super Soldier Serum in the system shop?'

System: [The Super Soldier Serum's price in the shop is 10,000 system points!]

(Author: The System version of the serum.)

'What?! 10,000 points?!' yelled Skye in his heart.

His current system points were only 12,500! If Skye bought the serum from the system shop, then his hard-earned points would simply decrease to a meager amount!

Ridding himself of those thoughts, Skye looked around the living room for a bit before his eyes landed on Jade who was sitting cross-legged a few feet from him.

Pointing his pam towards her, the girl was enveloped by a faint golden aura, preventing the bursts of flames, that appeared here and there, from surging too far and burning all the furniture in the room.

'This house is too small... we need a big training room with weights and some machines for punching and kicking strength measurement.' thought Skye. 'The wide space should also help in Jade's combat training...'

But the problem is money.

Although Skye's family was fairly wealthy, he knew that the amount of money he received from his parents wouldn't be enough.

'Selling this house and the two cars are out of the question...' he thought in his head.

But a second later,

System: [Skye, may I suggest spending 10,000 system points to level me up to Level-2. By then, the system shop should have more things to sell, including this world's money which you could exchange for with system points.]

Skye: "..."

Huh, doesn't that mean that I can get as much money as I want as long as I have enough system points?

At this point, Skye was already numb to the capabilities of the system. 'Exchange money for system points? What's the conversion rate?'

System: [One system point should exchange for 100 American dollars. But remember, do not waste too many points since comparing the system points with mere money is like comparing a speck of dust to the endless skies, they are simply incomparable.]

Skye agreed with the system words in his heart. 'Don't worry about that, but I have a question, can you only be upgraded when I use enough amount of system points?'

System: [That is correct. When I level up, my other functions that the creator had locked would be available for you to use. To level me up to Level-2, you must use 10,000 system points in the shop. For Level-3, you must use 100,000 points, for Level-4 1,000,000 points, and for Level-5, which is also the final level, you need to use up 10,000,000 points.]

What a crazy number of system points.

'New functions huh... then what function would be unlocked once you level up to Level-2?'

System: [The Fusion Function. This will allow you to fuse and combine any two similar skills, physiques, bloodlines, weapons, items, and etc, that you have.]

'Combining Physiques?' hearing the system's words, Skye's eyes lit up like stars.
