Marvel: My Own Path

Chapter 22 - Agreement

New York City, 219 West 47th Street—S.H.I.E.L.D's HQ in New York.

Inside the Director's office, two figures could be seen sitting on the couches at each end of the glass table.

With one leg crossed atop another, Skye picked up his cup of coffee and drank it as he leaned back on the sofa.

Smiling, he said to Nick Fury. "So, what do you think, director Fury?"

Nick Fury was silent for a while before saying. "You've taken care of the Hand, one of our biggest issues. Although they're not completely destroyed yet, I believe in your abilities to finish them off."

Skye only smiled at his words.

Fury continued. "As for helping you construct your training school, it is a simple matter. Where do you want to build it?"

"In Midtown Manhattan, since its, the best single commercial district in the country," answered Skye.

Previously, he had thought for a while where he should start-up his training dojo, and after pondering for a while, he decided to set it up in Midtown Manhattan.

Other than being the heart of New York, it is also the largest metropolitan area in the United States of America. Of course, the real reason Skye picked the place was that Manhattan is the place where the most 'fun' things took place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Manhattan?" muttered Fury before nodding his head. "Just pick a location and we'll take care of everything. We'll use the best materials available."

"Many thanks, director Fury." laughed Skye.

"As for the training equipments, it wouldn't be a problem, but for the more advanced ones..." smiled Fury with clear hints in his words.

Of course, Skye knew what he was thinking. He nodded his head and said. "It is only right that those expensive machineries shouldn't come free. How about I give you the secrets of 'the Substance' of the Hand once I take them all down?"

The Substance, also called Resurrection Elixir, is what the Hand uses to 'immortalize' themselves. Other than providing prolonged longevity, the elixir also repairs one's body and even bring the dead back to life.

"Alright then," said Fury, his heart beating with excitement. "I guess we have an agreement now."

Nick Fury being Nick Fury, of course, he accepted the exchange. After all, the elixir is a magical panacea with miraculous properties.

However, no matter how miraculous the elixir was, let alone the price of its resurrection ability being extremely high, Skye considered it useless.

Why would he d.e.s.i.r.e a flawed product when he had the Supreme System that had much better medicines in its shop?

"Being a great martial artist you are, it would be great if I could send some individuals to train under you." Fury said calmly. "I'm sure that they would improve tremendously then."

'You wanna monitor me? Well, I've nothing to hide.' Skye laughed in his heart.

He replied while chuckling. "Of course that wouldn't be a problem!"

Skye then stood up from his seat and extended his hand towards Fury. "It appears that we've reached a conclusion, director Fury?"

Nick Fury also stood up and shook Skye's hand, his one-eye staring at him. Who knew what he was thinking.

"I'll excuse myself then." gestured Skye before heading towards the door.

At that moment, a system announcement suddenly resounded in his ears.

The next day, in East River, Midtown Manhattan.

Standing before an old and dilapidated warehouse, Skye walked around the broken building and inspected the area's surroundings.

"This whole place is nearly half a city block big and there's also the river right behind the building..." muttered Skye before closing his eyes. "There's plenty of trees surrounding the whole area and the air here is also clear."

He took a deep breath and stayed on his spot for a few moments before opening his eyes again. "This place's sunlight exposure is also good, okay, I've decided."

Taking out the phone for contacting S.H.I.E.L.D, Skye immediately called Agent Coulson. Once the call was picked up, Skye gave the location for his training school."

Coulson: "Okay then, we'll have our best planning and construction team start as soon as possible."

Skye: "Thank you, Agent Coulson."

Coulson: "A small matter Mr. Hunt. Then I'll excuse myself if there's nothing else."

Both of them then said their farewells and Skye returned the phone in his pocket.

Silent for a few seconds, he swept his glance on the area once more before leaving the place.

Midtown Manhattan.

As Skye walked along the bustling street of the heart of New York, he couldn't help but mutter while in a daze. "New York City... one could indeed lose themselves in this place's unique beauty."

Looking at the sky-high skyscr.a.p.ers that towered the sky, and the commerce street with plenty of shops, restaurants, and street food stands alike, he smiled and drifted along with the countless people, blending in with the masses.

Walking past the front of numerous buildings, one person in the endless crowd caught his eye. He had a disheveled blonde hair and an unkempt beard and mustache.

Walking barefoot, he had a tattered striped-gray shirt and pants. This person also had an old backpack on his body as he stood next to a newsstand, staring at the large building that was 800 feet tall on the other side of the street.

'I can feel Qi circling around him.' thought Skye as he looked at the man who seemed like a homeless person. 'Is he a hermit martial artist?'

Looking at the direction where the man was staring, Skye's eyes gazed upon the sleek tower that probably had over 50 to 60 floors.

"Isn't that the Rand Enterprises Building?" Skye muttered as he swept his glance on the towering building.

Since he had been living in this world for a while now, Skye had familiarized himself with a few famous companies such as Stark Industries, Hammer Industries, and Rand Enterprises.

These companies all stood at the top of their respective fields.

Shaking his head, he removed those thoughts and looked at the blond man one last time before walking past him.

But at that moment, with his enhanced hearing, he suddenly heard the man say something which surprised him.

...

Looking at the Rand Enterprises Building, the man glanced at the newsstand owner and laughed while pointing at the building. "That's my building."

Newsstand owner: "You should sell it and buy some shoes."

The man only chuckled in response before running towards the Rand Enterprises Building.
