Marvel: My Own Path

Chapter 23 - S.P.E.A.R.

Staring at the back of the seemingly homeless person, an odd expression appeared on Skye's face.

'The Rand Enterprises Building is yours?' he thought as he laughed inwardly.

Sparing one more glance at him, Skye went on his way and once more blended among the crowd, drifting along with the countless people.

Queens, 11 Wayland Street.

Currently in the middle of Jade's mental training, as the two siblings sat crosslegged in the backyard, Skye, for the first time, checked the status page of someone else.

He wasn't able to do so when the Supreme System was only Level 1, but now that it was Level 2, he had found out that he could do so!

'Her attributes are just superb despite being only 9 years old.' thought Skye. 'With her fire manipulation, as long as her combat prowess improves more, she wouldn't have a problem facing this world's superhumans, mutants, and enhanced individuals.'

But her mentality though, although she's indeed m.a.t.u.r.e for her age, she's still a child after all.

As Skye thought of a scene of his sister facing bloody scenes in the future, he couldn't help but shake his head.

'With this world, it is inevitable but I'll do my best to delay it...' he said in his heart.

And at that moment, Jade's eyes that were closed finally opened, revealing twinkling obsidian-colored eyes.

"Phew, brother, your hypnosis powers are too strong!." Jade pouted. "I can't believe it still took me two hours to break free from the mind control..."

Hearing her words, Skye couldn't help but laugh in his heart. 'Her mental strength is also improving at a rapid rate when it comes to mental training, it seems my little sister is also a genius!'

Skye flicked her forehead and smiled. "Of course it's difficult! Who do you think your big brother is? Only an extremely few people could resist my eyes so freeing yourself from my control in two hours is already very good!"

"Really?" asked Jade, her eyes full of expectation, as if asking to be praised.

"Of course!" Skye laughed and patted her head. "Why would your brother lie to you?"

"Hehe."

Standing up, Skye dusted himself and Jade did the same. "Right, how's school? Did anything interesting happen today?"

Hearing her brother talk about school, the smile in Jade's face changed to that of annoyance as she pouted. "Brother, there's this kid that always bullies my other classmates, how hateful! Sometimes I want to teach him a lesson."

As she said her words, Jade's little fist waved in the air indignantly.

Skye didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he heard her words.

Teach him a lesson? Are you trying to kill that kid?

He couldn't help but worry about that kid's future. If he tried to bully Jade then who knew what she would do!

"You better not do anything silly," Skye said and flicked her forehead again. "Remember to not show your abilities, otherwise you'll get taken by bad people again once they find out about you."

"Hmph, I'm not stupid brother," Jade cutely snorted before giggling. "With my brother here, what can those bad guys do?"

"Haha." Skye laughed loudly and nodded his head repeatedly in response.

One month later—East River, Manhattan.

At this moment, standing before a three-story tall and a thousand square meter large building was a young man with black hair.

Guarding the front of the building was a proud and tall gate with the letters: S.P.E.A.R. carved on the surface.

As his hair flowed along with the wind, Skye walked up to the entrance and gazed up and down at the giant 5-meter tall gate that seemed impenetrable.

Touching the gate's surface, he muttered. "Spear. Superhuman Protection Education Assistance Reinforcement." he then laughed. "What a grand name for a simple combat training dojo..."

Pushing the gate open, what greeted Skye's vision was a large space with numerous equipment for physical training for enhanced individuals. Other than the different types of equipment and machines, in the middle of everything, there was a 25-meter swimming pool.

Looking up, the height from the surface to the ceiling was 5-meters, and alongside the incredibly wide room, it made the whole place look spacious.

Skye then walked towards the nearest punching force machine. Testing it, he clenched his hand into a fist, used a minuscule amount of strength, and released a punch.

Wham!

-----

Punch Force: 2,550 lbs.

-----

The resounding punch reverberated in the quiet space as Skye merely spared the number indicator a glance before heading towards the elevator on the far end of the floor.

Of course, this building also had stairs that led up to the third floor.

Stepping into the lift, Skye pressed the number for the second floor.

A few seconds later, Skye stepped out and saw an open space without a single machine or equipment.

"I guess this is the sparring room.

Sweeping his eyes around the floor, only the windows and gray-coated walls, floor, and ceiling greeted his eyes.

Stepping back into the lift, Skye headed onto the third and final floor.

When he arrived at the place, Skye couldn't help but be amazed at the contrast between the building's first two floors and the last floor.

The place was of modern design with crisp, clear lines, and simple color palette.

An open floor plan with the living room connected to the other areas such as the kitchen and the dining room. Alongside the spaces that were delimitated but without much use of the walls, it made the place feel open, bright, and spacious.

The huge, floor-to-ceiling glass walls and windows paired with the oversized wall arts added a look that made the living room modern and sophisticated.

Other than the pieces of metal, glass, and steel furniture and appliances, there were also wooden-made furnitures that held a simple and eye-catching beauty.

Skye walked around the place and checked the bedrooms for him, his sister, and the one other extra room that would probably serve a purpose in the future.

"Good place." Skye praised as he glanced around in satisfaction. Looking at his watch, he saw that there were 30 minutes left before it was time to pick up Jade from school.

'She'll love this place.' Skye thought and smiled.

But at that moment, the phone for contacting S.H.I.E.L.D. began to ring. Taking it out, Skye saw from the screen that it was Sharon that was calling.

He accepted the call and a second later, Sharon's familiar voice escaped the speaker.

Sharon: "Skye, is your new place up to your satisfaction?"

"Yes it is." laughed Skye. "So, what else did you call me for other than asking about this?"

Sharon: "We've found the location of one of the three remaining fingers of the Hand."

Oh? It's about time they found a trace.

"Who and where?" asked Skye, his voice exceedingly calm.

In his eyes, those remaining three leaders of the long-lived organization were as good as dead. The only thing remaining was to find out where they were so he could finish them.

Sharon: "It's a man named Bakuto. He runs a 'sanctuary' for young and lost people, brainwashing them and slowly indoctrinating them to the ways of the Hand."

'A cult's asylum?' Skye smirked.

Refugee for the young and lost people? He couldn't give a damn about them.

His eyes were only focused on his prey.

Shifting his head to stare at the afternoon sun, Skye chuckled.

"Your time's up at midnight."
