New Emperor Of Ghouls

Chapter 2 - 2: Fresh start

When Yan Zhong Yi came too, he found himself surrounded by massive trees in what seemed to be a forest. .

Running his hand through the blades of grass underneath him, he stood up. Extending his tall frame to readjust to the lack of strength he was feeling.

Zhong Yi couldn't remember the last time he was this weak. His lack of strength was slightly annoying, but he would recover that in due time.

The rays of sunlight that passed through the blockade of leaves managed to light up his surroundings.

'Green leaves, Green grass, massive trees. This is an old forest. Trees would never be able to grow this big with sentient presence around unless their fairies or those stuck-up elves.'

Zhong Yi stood still for a moment to take in everything that happened to him recently. His race's extermination, finding out Kana was more than she said she was and knowing that his little sister is still alive, brought about feelings he didn't need right now.

"I will find you, Kana, even if I have to go against the heaven's themselves!" Screamed Yan Zhong Yi with determination.

Scanning his body, the drive that he had just developed instantly deflated. "My cultivation base!!"

His body was missing the cultivation base that he had painstakingly nurtured to the pinnacle. He knew he was going to lose his cultivation, but seeing it himself still was dispiriting.

'It's fine, My body doesn't feel any different from before, It will be easy for a Sacred Ghoul to cultivate to the top. Wait... I can finally use that technique '

From his body scan earlier, his body wasn't any different from before, so he should still be a Royal Sacred Ghoul and that meant he could cultivate the royal families sacred scripture.

What outsiders don't know is that the royal family has two. One is specifically for Emperors and the crown prince or crown princess and the other is for the rest of the family, including extended and any branches.

[Ding! You have been detected and acknowledged as the only living member of the Sacred Ghoul race and the Sacred Ghoul imperial family.]

Zhong Yi was hanging onto any piece of hope that he wasn't alone in these unknown lands, The system announcement destroyed that tiny bit of hope.

"Now, I must rebuild the empire that my ancestors fought those f.u.c.k.i.n.g disgusting, uncivilized, cowardly, bastardly, cavemen to make. I'll kill them, I'll f.u.c.k.i.n.g kill all of them!" Said Yan Zhong Yi with thick killing intent. "I'll play with their women! Slaughter their children! Torture their men!"

His kagune folded back into his body after he finished venting. As a result, he looked like any regular human but his blood-red eyes and very eye-catching white hair would make him stand out in any crowd.

[Warning! The legacy trial can only be attempted once, upon failure, all qualifications to inherit the bloodline legacy of the Sacred Ghoul race will be made void]

Yan Zhong Yi was wondering where this voice was coming from, he couldn't sense anything within his immediate vicinity and the voice sounded as if it was originating from inside him. The voice however, didn't seem to have any harmful intentions towards him.

While he may seem uncaring towards the system, he was a bit unsettled at the fact that it could just speak at will in his mind. 'Is there a way to turn it off, I have this feeling it is going to come back to bite me in the a.s.s.'

Zhong Yi felt that he had wasted enough time. "Begin the Sacred Ghoul race legacy trial."

[Legacy trial chosen]

[Legacy trial of the Sacred Ghoul race commencing...]

Suddenly, his surroundings disappeared. In its place was a one hundred meters or so tall altar, everywhere else was whiteness.

The altar was made of red crystals embedded in large white blocks and each step was about twenty-five centimetres high and half a meter wide. In each block were small intricate patterns depicting the history of the Sacred Ghoul empire.

It seemed to extend up into the clouds, giving off an ancient, majestic, and dignified feeling.

At the top of the altar was a large statue made of marble. The eyes on the statue carried the same distinctive blood-red of every other Ghoul. It carried an enormously large two-handed sword over its shoulder and its kagune was extended from its back, pointing towards the bottom of the altar.

Zhong Yi walked towards the first steps of the altar. He ran his hands across the small patterns.

Pride, anger, frustration, regret. He was a ball of emotions without an outlet and the altar was a good way to distract him from his own thoughts.

When he looked up to the top of the altar, he examined the statue he froze. He froze because the statue was of grave importance, not knowing who that man was, was considered a shame to their entire race. _

The name of the man was Ghoul.

He was the primogenitor and the first Emperor of the Sacred Empire and Sacred Ghoul race. Born from a cherubim angel and a royal demon. Ghoul was an abnormality just by existing. His existence went against the laws of both the angels and demons, but he survived and prospered.

Zhong Yi began ascending the altar and noticed a pressure beginning to bear down on his body. Because he was a member of a warrior race called Sacred Ghouls, his body was strong even without cultivation. So by the time he reached half, he barely broke a sweat.

With a smile on his handsome face, he continued. Walking step by step up the altar.

He reached the 300th step and illusions started to appear.

He saw his brethren, his family, his father. Those captivating illusions seemed so real, enticing him to enjoy the absolute bliss of remembrance, to drown himself in a fake memory. But in his heart, he knew they weren't real.

So he continued to walk, disregarding the tearful expressions on his families face, especially the look of disappointment in his fathers eyes, visible from underneath his mask.

New illusions started to appear of beautiful women, they had an appearance worth kingdoms. Piles of gold also appeared, they spoke of the riches he would enjoy if he stopped walking and turned around.

But he still kept on walking.

What would've had normal people falling for the illusions, was incapable of affecting Zhong Yi.

His heart only acknowledged one woman; He had held immeasurable power and wealth as a prince of the Sacred Ghouls empire.

Zhong Yi was a bit disappointed at the so called trial, he was undergoing.

As if it had taken offence to his nonchalant attitude.

The illusions slowly changed to the slaughter of his entire race. Women got killed, soldiers died without a weapon in their hands, even children were slaughtered.

Watching them get massacred in their homes, r.a.p.ed in the streets and humiliated without honour was enough for him to lose himself in anger.

But he couldn't, so he channelled all that emotion into his drive, that drive allowed him to carry on through all the other illusions that appeared with ease.

Finally, He stood on the top of the altar.

His mind felt empty and clear, when countless images started to flash before his eyes, all of which were related to the Sacred empires beginning, rise, and downfall.

He saw it all; How they grew to become the most powerful race within that world, how they took over planets by the dozens on whims, how they fought against entire universes for supremacy over their resources.

He watched these scenes, feeling as if he was right there.

The rise of the sacred empire caused his blood to boil and made him feel pride, made him happy to be who he was. While, the fall of the empire caused him to feel desolation, made him feel empty inside.

Suddenly, he felt a burning sensation in his spine, it wasn't a painful feeling. Instead, it was so soothing and relaxing that Zhong Yi fought the urge to fall asleep.

His kagune slowly unravelled itself and visibly started to change. From his back to the tip, the colour changed from a dangerous blood-red to a mysterious dark purple.

To him, his kagune still felt flexible like the flow of water. However, they felt stronger and sturdier.

His white as snow hair was no longer pure white. Instead, it had strands of dark purple highlights. Zhong Yi's eyes remained the same blood-red but had become a deeper colour, giving him a dangerous yet profound air.

Zhong Yi couldn't help but admire this new look. It made him look more handsome than before and who wouldn't want that.

While inspecting his recent changes, a spirit-like figure appeared before him.

It was wearing a white-gold dragon royal gown and gave off a dignified and imposing aura. It stood with its hands behind its back, its eyes seemed to look down on everything under the heavens.

Suddenly, a Burst of killing intent emanated from the obscure figure, so thick that it manifested into a physical entity of a sword that hovered just above Zhong Yi's head.

Zhong Yi was jolted out of his stupor by the heavy killing intent.

He slowly raised his gaze to meet the eyes of the spirit.

His eyes widened and his mouth opened with an "O" shape, large enough to fit an egg.

He managed to stutter out the words. "Y-Y-Your.....
