Nikita

Chapter 53 - It Was A Lie After All

Pushing the door to Nikita's office, Liza mustered a smile that she had been practicing over the past few minutes. Sure, that was 'her' hospital, and she was trying to get everything in order, but the man beyond those doors was important to her too.

The doors opened to reveal Magie on one of the seats, contemplating everything that was happening. She had been playing Nikita's video on the tv though she was sure the doctor wouldn't like for her to know what was troubling him.

"How is he?" Liza asked Maggie after taking a seat opposite the doctor who had been watching over Nikita like his guardian angel. Maggie looked distraught, broken even as she stared blankly at the television before her.

Now she understood why Nikita was so adamant about the virus being controlled. She understood the dangers of all this, but in the end, she knew that there was a  chance that someone was messing with them for his reputation.

"Sleeping," Maggie said dejectedly, "how's everything outside?" the woman asked the director, who looked like the world needed to take a fuċkɨnġ break and let Nikita breather. As much as that was really a potentially good idea, it wouldn't help them today.

They had to make sure everything was fixed before the next day because if tomorrow reached before, they could fix this, then Nikita would lose a lot.

Sure, he wouldn't care about it, but it would hurt the people who had watched their family work so hard and toil for success in the Russian medical and Pharma sphere.

"Qiao got a solution from Samantha. I don't know how he did it, but she told him the virus isn't really a virus, but it was a scare. However, she told him that the final vial of the virus is still out there and anyone could buy it off the market," Liza said to Maggie, who just smiled faintly at her.

Her suspicions were right after all, but coils she trusts Liza with the information she had and her ideas? It was one thing to believe the doctor was innocent but another to actually walk out there and defend him.

Would Liza really defend her best doctor, or would she let everything take a til and slowly or on a truth that would tell the world that the hospital wasn't susceptible to threats? She was the hospital leader and needed to make decisions that were essential for their profits too.

Liza would have to decide between saving Nikita's reputation and throwing the man under the bus. But would any of that even matter to the doctor who they had forced to sleep?

"I don't know whether to be happy or sad about all this, really. Look at him, Liza; he looks so tired. He's been holding on for long, and now, his body is demanding rest, which he wouldn't have given into willingly," Maggie said.

She wanted to hear Nikita complain about the pranks Yuri, Ren, Qiao, and Carrie pulled on him that made him look a hundred times more stupid than all of them combined. She wanted to hear Nikita's genuine laugh, and more than anything else, Maggie wanted to see Nikita take care of himself.

Sure, she knew it wouldn't be easy considering he had dismissed all the therapy sessions he had been ȧssigned, but still, there was hope for them. She believed that one of the days that would come, Nikita would be happy again.

He would learn to grieve and face the death and losses he had countered over the past six months. She Hoped for the day that she would hear Nikita remember his family and their stubbornness. Maggie knew Nikita hadn't made any contact with the Semenovs.

She knew he had kept clear of that family since their son died in the crash along with his family. The guild had eaten him up for months, and there still was a chance that Nikita wished he wouldn't have allowed Ren to get on board the private jet.

Maybe then, Ren would still be alive.

Of course, the Semenovs had forgiven Nikita because nothing was to be forgiven. They didn't want any compensation because even though their son was their only child, Nikita had lost five people he cared about, and nothing would ever bring them back.

They had wanted to keep in touch with Nikita, but the young Pavlenko was too lost in his world even to acknowledge that there were people who really wanted him to go back to who he was.

Sure, nothing would ever be the same, but still, a happy Nikita would always make anyone's day. That much, even the universe was sure of.

"And rest he shall have. I just haven't realized it yet, but he wanted to resign so he could start over elsewhere. I'd been too selfish to let him go because he is my doctor, but Todorov is not really the place for him right now," Liza said, realization dawning on her.

She knew Nikita would want to forget everything that happened; he would like a fresh start, but how fresh would a fresh start be if he hadn't even learned to grieve?

What good would it be when he didn't even want to face the truth that he had lost some of his loved ones in the crash?

What good would a fresh start be to him when he couldn't even face his friends and tell them of his nightmares and the pains he was experiencing while pretending everything was okay?

"I agree. He needs to heal, and Todorov isn't the palace for him. It's sad though that he got here because he couldn't grieve," Maggie said, agreeing with the director. They were ready and willing to do anything for the man who was sleeping, lost in his own world.

Unknown to them, the good doctor was trapped in his nightmares, his dreams that made him feel like he should have been there. He was haunted by his own subconscious and the replays of Raisa calling for help while he was still far away, which made him lose his sanity.

Nikita was suffering, he was in pain, and the one person that could get him out of this wasn't even around yet. So much time had passed, so many things had been experienced, but the good doctor still had no escape from all this.

He needed to understand that there was more to life than staying hidden behind it all. But how could he when all the damn time, he would find himself so lost in a reality that no one would be willing to live with him?

Maybe he really needed the jumpstart, but what could get him out of it?

Did the doctors see what was happening to their friend?
