Nikita

Chapter 54 - Before He Wakes Up

"It was a hard hit on him, Maggie. Losing everyone he loved in that crash ruined him. I wished there was more we could do for him, but how would we even be able to do that when he wouldn't let anyone look at him differently?

"He always wanted to be strong; look at where it landed him. This shit sucks, and the worst part of it is that he wouldn't even give them so much as a second glance or thought for all the options I presented to the doctor.

"Maybe if he could go to the Russian hills to visit his grandparents, he could get some inspiration and heal properly. We love him, and he needs to get better," Liza said, trying to get Maggie to help her brainstorm.

They both cared for Nikita.

They both wanted him to get better.

They were willing to do anything, but what was the price? They weren't sure Nikita would love what was happening outside of his room. He would go crazy if he realized they had put him to sleep when the world needed him.

However, what if he woke up and still had a mental breakdown? Would they cut their losses with the doctor, or would they want to get him better treatment? Would they make him talk, or would they join the public in the wonders of the Pavlenko household?

"I agree with the director. So what now?" Maggie asked, not sure what they needed to do,

"We wait for him to wake up so we can tell it to him," Liza said after a long exaggerated sigh.

She hadn't asked about the video that had been silently playing onTV, or maybe that's because she had already seen it earlier that day before she sent Nikita on an unplanned holiday? A holiday that ended up backfiring on them both.

"And the hospital?"

"Everything is going back to normal. It's almost morning, and people are tired. At least the scare is gone; that was a wild one. It just makes me wonder how far people are actually willing to go for their dėsɨrės," Liza said.

She still hadn't come to terms that this was just a scare to ruin the reputation of the Pavlenkos.

Maybe there was more they needed to do, and maybe there was something they could have done, but whatever it was, it had been an epic fail. Why the heck would someone ever want to tarnish the reputation of the best doctor in Russia anyway?

"Wat of Samantha, got anything her?" Maggie asked, her voice laced with disappointment and anger.

She hadn't known the woman, but it was heartbreaking to know that a woman like her would come forward and cause chaos, much fewer point fingers at the doctor, who literally had no idea of what was happening.

It took a lot of guts for Samantha to come out and rant like that, but did Maggie really know that Samantha was Natalya's daughter, and if she knew, would she spank the young woman till kingdom come to teach her the manners that Natalya had graciously failed at?

Would she condemn the girl and make her tell the world that all that she had done was just a sickening twist to bring down the Pavlenko household?

"Qiao took her to the military base; I hope she rots there," Liza said, hoping that Qiao Xi would teach the woman a lesson for messing with his brother, but was it really obvious that  Samantha had opened up for fear of what Nikita would do to her?

And about the military transport, were they really going to the base, or was Quiao taking her to a place no one would ever hear of her again? There were a lot of speculations, but only to those who really knew Nikita Rostova or, rather, Mykolajki Pavlenko.

Nikita wasn't a man to be messed with; even in his vegetative state, he was as lethal as he could have been when she was sane. No one tried fuċkɨnġ with his business and lived long enough to tell the story, but was that true, or was it something that Qiao had made up to make Samantha talk?

"Easy there. Anyway, let's get everything ready for Nikita, plus the hospital owes him a defense. We need to clear the air about his involvement in the viral creation," Maggie said, hoping to the stars and the universe that Liza wouldn't tell her others about this.

Sure the doctor had been humble enough not to let anyone know how much he was worth, but that didn't mean the world was blind to the posts he had ȧssumed when his parents passed on and when his family decided to 'ghost' him.

"Yeah, I already wrote a speech about that. Anyway, I need to go now; please hand Nikita the envelope containing my resignation acceptance letter when he wakes up.

"He's still a major shareholder of the hospital, but that's way better and easier than him having to operate while feeling low," Liza said to Maggie, who just nodded.

This would be hard to deal with. Nikita was laying in bed, tossing and turning, beads of sweat falling from his head and body, indicating that he was having a nightmare.

He looked like he really needed help, and for a moment there, Maggie almost added another dose of sedatives in his IV but decided against it. She hated that the one who could fix it was now being fixed.

Nikita looked lost.

The monitor was beeping rapidly, and the two doctors, Maggie and Liza, wanted to hug and make him feel like all of that would end soon, but would it?

"Okay, thank you for always being there for him, Liza," Maggie said to the director, who just smiled at her. They were both on Nikita's side. They would defend him to their last breath, though Liza's loyalty was uncertain.

Maybe when the clocks turned, they would make the world a better place, but until then, they had to ensure Nikita didn't wake up to the world protesting against him.

"Anything for my best warrior," Liza said as she walked out of the room and was ready to hold a much-needed press conference.. She knew that it was now or never, and she would risk Nikita hurting anymore.
