Overcoming The Beast

Chapter 23 - NetherWorld Ice Cave

"For The Clan competition I will need two summoning beast. Usually the primal beast and the first contract beast. Even if hell flipped over That Phenoix egg is not going to hatch in a week. The Fire Tiger isn't strong enough to fight one beast talented at the same time. Much less two." Leon sighed.

Looks Like I need to get my second Contract beast. Leon left the town and walked towards the volcano. The sun wasn't didn't effect him anymore. He easily walked through.

Swoosh. The wind picked. Leon still hadn't forgotten the last sandstorm. He started running. Not bothering to run towards the volcano. Leon changed direction and aimed for the cave he had been to earlier. Seeing the cave Leon used the eruption rune to shoot forward and rolled into the cave.

He landed right in front of the pond. Behind him torrents of sand and wind blew. The wind grew faster and eventually it looked like the cave had been blocked by flowing sand.

Leon sat up "I'll spend the rest of the storm here."

Leon summoned his soul book with a gesture and then summoned the Tiger. The Fire Tiger heard the strong winds. It went towards the entrance popped its head out. Leon ran and grabbed the tiger from the back as it was being pulled out.

"Wow, I don't look at you for one moment and you almost went and killed yourself." Leon said sarcastically. "Just sit with me.

The tiger looked sad but then walked next to Leon and laid next to him. Leon started cultivating the Nine Thrones soul technique.

"I broke Into the first level the moment I awaken my soul book. I just need to break into level two so I can form my second soul contract."

Leon started to absorb soul energy. "My talent really has increased by a lot. I am absorbing energy at least ten times faster. I'm probably the most talented, I don't think any one else has two souls combined and two soul books."

The winds calmed down. Leon woke up from his cultivation and the tiger woke up from his sleep. "I've broken through to level two. It took around a year to break into the second level in my past life."

Leon then walked out with the tiger. He then walked the rest of the way to the volcano with the tiger.

"The best should be in the volcano. At least the memories I stole from Orion Poseidon showed me that he got the Beast from this volcano."

Leon and the tiger jumped down into the volcano. Leon could feel the tiger wasn't comfortable. The heat was too high for it. He thought about training it.

"Stay here and wait for me to come back. Get used to the heat your a Fire beast." Leon channeled his inner militaristic trainer.

"I want to go in one fell swoop so I'll jump in from the top." Leon climbed back and reached the edge of the ledge. He stood on the end like an Olympic diver. He then swan dived in.

Leon summoned the Phoenix egg as he fell. He grabbed on to and held it down so it was the first thing to hit. He then used the eruption rune to burst forth.

Leon zoomed toward the magma. He then splashed in. The magma had thinned and become like air in the presence of the Phoenix egg. It moved away easily. Leon continued to fall frictionless through towards the center of the earth. Leon didn't know how long he had been falling for but he finally felt his stop was coming soon. He used the help of the Pheonix egg to stop.

An immense pressure felt on Leon. The only reason he wasn't completely squished was the Phoenix egg. Leon really couldn't wait until it hatched. It was already so useful in its egg form when it hatched it could probably control all physical fire and heat emitting objects.

Leon then swam towards into a cave until he found a dead end of stone.

He built up fire energy in his right leg using the eruption rune and smashed through the stone wall into a cave filled with ice. He landed in the ice cave behind him the that magma tried to flow into the cave rapidly froze, forming the wall again.

The vicious change in temperature sent Leon's body shivering. The egg tried to fight back the cold but could barely put up a fight. Leon unsummons the egg. He took out the ice resistant pills he had bought long He ate one, although he felt cold it wasn't as distracting. He could control his body better. He then held ten more in his mouth.

The cave was deep as no end could be seen. The walls were covered in a purple crystalline ice emitting a faint light. The dull purple light that had no source made the atmosphere eerie. Through the motionless cave Leon could hear the faint cries of ghost ominously resonating throughout the cave.

The ice formed sharp icicles and spikes that pierced out covering the path forward making it much more difficult to go through. A white chilling fog that thickened as you walked in just made thinks worst.

Breathing in the air. Leon could feel ice form in his lungs. His hair, eyelashes all had ice grown on it. His skin had turned pasty white and he could feel his body's blood flow slow down.

Leon used the Pure Fire Cloud art to create a thin layer of cloud on his body to protect himself from the ice. After that he ran into the cave.

He jumped and ducked dodging the icicles. He made the soul book emit fire energy into his body to keep his important organs warm. He avoided touching the ice with distances of centimeters. With a kick he front flips over a spike, lands on one hand and does another flip. Leon then created a platform of fire cloud energy which he used to jump over the spike in front of him on to the ground. He tried to make it through the cave as nimbly as possiable.

There was a lack of air. He got out of breath quickly. His muscles cramped but his bodily instincts knew he couldn't stop moving or his body would be drained of all the heat it held.

The fatigue only grew, with the constant increase coldness the pills also lost there effect as the temperatures reaches extremes.

The control over his body was lost for a second as Leon was jumping between spikes. His muscles reflexively tightened. His skin got cut by the sharp ice. The wound promptly froze stopping the bleeding but the ice energy entered his blood and spread like a fast moving poison. He could feel his whole body shiver and his brain had started to hurt.

He didn't stop. When in the air again, Leon could feel the cold energy pierce into his body like knives. It made him want to huddle up in a corner. He could even feel his mind go delirious as the world started to spin, his will felt like it would break any second.

Leon hurriedly ran. His body had gotten much stronger after going through the affinity training, so physically he didn't wort to much. And most mental challenges normally would be a piece of cake for him. His body contained a lot of fire energy, even when you didn't count the Pheonix. This should have stopped him from being overly affected and should have allowed him to run through with ease.

Leon had gravely underestimated the challenge.

"This cave is covered by netherworld ice. This ice is only naturally found on the bottom in the deepest caverns in the netherworld. It has extreme freezing properties, and is mainly known for freezing the soul. Although it isn't high quality it still is much stronger than any of the ice that can be found on this continent. It should have been brought here by an ancient cultivator to create a space for cultivation." Leon deduced out loud to keep his body active.

"The cultivator most likely set up a formation that breaks the will of anyone who walks through here killing them."

Leon saw a skull as he jumped over another icicle.

"Sorry but I won't be dying!" Leon's eyes relit with fire.

Leon had been using his voice to tell how long the cave was. As his voice wasn't reflected that well he knew the end of the cave was near. Leon took out the one of the swords he had made. With heavy slashes he broke the tops of the netherworld ice. By using his m.a.t.u.r.e intuition Leon aimed for the softer and weaker ice. Reaching the end of the cave the netherworld ice got softer and easier. After collecting over a dozen large pieces of netherworld ice the sword was completely covered in ice and would shatter in another hit, he stored it in his spatial ring. And took another one out. Following this he took of the spatial ring, that already had ice on it, and placed it on the side of his mouth.

"The spatial ring will probably break if I keep it outside anymore."

Spatial rings were made of very hard materials that were almost unbreakable. That was why Leon was able to easily use it in magma. However this ice had eroding properties that would break the formation on the spatial ring if it was exposed to too much of the NetherWorld ice energy. So by keeping it in his mouth Leon tried to minimise the effect.

"I got some netherworld ice, now I should get quickly get this done."
