Overcoming The Beast

Leon spent the rest of the night cultivating Nine Thrones soul technique. His body had grow enough to hold his own against his older soul book. He let the Nine Thrones soul energy flow into the seed and the book.

At dawn he practiced Formless Aura to help hide his aura. He also wanted to use it to hide the aura of the primal beast and soul book he'll summon. He planned to play it low for a while.

"Formless aura should be able to completely hide my affinity from others. And I should able to use it to make people think my primal beast has the potential of a three voidstar rank with that I should be able to stop assassins being sent to me."

Leon left his home and when walking to the tower where the ceremony would be held he saw the Lucky Sky shop. He thought of Eos and wanted to say hi.

When he entered, Eos who was standing as if waiting for something, she excitedly jumped at Leon and hugged him.

"Brother Leon, it's all thanks to you, I was able to hatch my egg yesterday, It was given a half step six voidstar rank. The clan head was very happy, he said he would take me as a disciple, and I should go with him, but I told him that I wanted to stay back longer and say thanks to you. But even after I found out your name you still weren't home" she finally stopped and took a deep breath. "Did it get hotter in this room?."

Leon ignored the last question and said "What! You awakened a half step six voidstar rank beast that is almost six star! I just helped you out a bit, cause I thought you looked kinda cute. Wow, now really don't forget me!" Leon made his face flush red. Eos also started to blush when she heard what he said.

"Well brother Leon, I won't be able to see you for while but I will always remember this. I will ask the clan head if I can leave sometimes to meet with you." She then walked into the store to packed her things.

Leon left and thought, the clan really is low ranked. They couldn't even measure someone's potential properly. Someone with the Blue Sky Seal physique would have all there beast, primal and contracted, have there potential increased to ten voidstars and with the fact that her primal beast completely matches her physique it would be eleven voidstars at least. Leon shuck his head and walked away. And thought about the past memories of Eos he had.

Somewhere hidden a man could be heard. "Clan head is that the boy Leon that miss Eos was asking about, for some trash that hasn't even awakened a soul book at the age of twelve, does he think he can be friends with miss Eos. But I think he knows that." The man says he watched Lin Feng shake his head as he left.

The person that was called the clan head didn't say anything but silently agreed with the man.

Finally the Leon reached the tower. It was his first time properly entering. He couldn't help but feel nostalgic. He went up the stairs straight to the main hall where the ceremony was going to be held.

Inside he saw many of the clan elders, and even his father, standing in a line orderly. They watched around looking at the next generation. The main hall was as big as football field and had a huge stage at the front.

The stage was elevated by a few steps and covered most of the wall. On it, at the center, was a huge elliptical mirror that stood up on its own. In front of the mirror was a wooden pedestal with a colorful crystal ball on it.

He could hear some of the clan members talking "look at the elemental source! It seems much bigger than the one that was used last year."

The other replied "it seems like the clan has been on the rise, with talents like Pace who has four voidstar potential beast and especially that girl Eos who the clan head announced as his disciple at the begging, I heard she awakened a five voidstar rank beast."

"Eos! The little girl that old Hermes adopted. Wow, when she awakened her soul book two years ago I knew the egg we saw in the mirror wasn't simple."

Harlan, the clan head walked to the center of the stage with an old man and woman. He walks with his robe flowing and the huge Flamesmith sign on his back showing. He took the stage "silence." Even though he said it normally yet it rebounded across the room.

"He's using soul energy to speak." Leon whispered to himself. He then saw Pace standing on the side of the stage. He went straight to him.

"Pace how are you? I haven't seen you for a while."

"Leon I'm great. What about you... Leon what happened to you. You look so different!"

"I know I trained hard. Don't you think I look as good as you?"

"Honestly I have to say you look a little better then me. Only a little." Pace walked beside Leon. "Before you were under my shoulder now your above my ear. Your way to tall for your age. What kind of training did you do?"

"I practiced blacksmithing, it is oddly really good at refining the body."

"Well I don't know Blacksmithing so I can't try it. Will you teach it to me later?"

"Sure it isn't that hard. I think you'll be a natural."

"Sure. Let's watch the ceremony." Pace said rolling his eyes.

Harlan shouted "Everyone let us start this Grand occasion. Lewis Flamesmith come up."

A boy walked out of the crowd on to the stage. He walked up to the crystal ball that reached up to his c.h.e.s.t. He put his hand on it and stared at the mirror. The mirror swirled and a greenish blue turtle could be seen. It had a shiny shell and was quite young. In the crystal ball a blue book could be see.

The boy looked mesmerized by the image. The Clan head spoke "This is a Green Aqua turtle. They are known to be good defensive creatures of the water element. Most of them have the potential of a three voidstar. You should treat it well although our clan rarely summons water primal beast don't worry. Elder Lazarius would happily teach you."

An elder on the stage said "Find me when the ceremony is over. I will guide you in cultivation." The boy nodded. He gave a bow and walked off the stage.

The Clan head calls up another disciple of the clan, a chubby boy this time he reached both his hands on to the stone and started to push energy into it with all his force, his face scrunched up and sweat dripped.

In the crystal, a book formed red in color. On the mirror a red elephant could be seen. Long tusk and a tough stone like skin that was set aflame. It had menacing yellow eyes and a long trunk.

The clan head with a smile on his face said "Well done kid! A Volcanic Elephant, with the potential of four voidstar, it may even evolve into a legendary Hell Fire Elephant if you work hard. Go to the art hall then come to me I'll help you with the planning of your evolution path for your beast."

"What! a Hell Fire Elephant I know that at least had a seven voidstar rank potential. Wow."

"I know this kid is probably the most talented person after Eos."

The kid hearing what every one was saying puffs out his c.h.e.s.t and walks back to his parents. He holds his held high and tries to act stoic but fails as a drunken smile covers his face.

Leon sighed hearing the people around him. Evolution of a beast was separated into two types one was a major evolution while the other was a minor evolution. Minor evolution was the type that had happened more often. It usually happened after a tough fight or the beast gains a lot of energy, usually given form the summoner in the form of runes. It usually means a small rank increase in potential, maybe a new ability is learned or even the beast has changed to a mutant in the same species.

However Major evolution are rare and very hard to do. They need an immense amount of energy and very rare and powerful runes. A major evolution could lead to a change in species.

Summoners have even theorized evolving a pig into a Phoenix its just that the energy needed would be so immense that all the energy in the world wouldn't be enough to do it.

"The energy from the volcano that I was cultivating in, may be enough for a major evolution of a mildly talented low rank beast at most." Leon couldn't help but evaluate.

Major evolution take a long time for the beast to evolve as the beast turns into an egg as it goes through changes. In this form it becomes completely dormant it can be taken back into the soul book or left outside for it to hatch. After breaking out the beast usually has a drastic increase in potential. Strong major evolutions that used heavenly materials could even increase the potential by five stars.

Leon thought of the Fire Prism Soul Jem. It is a material that could cause a major evolution. It held enough energy in its small body to do so. Leon had gotten it for the primal beast he was going to summon but after remembering his past life he thought of a better use for it.

Pace started the conversation again.

"Leon you know that I'll be leaving for Blood sea city after this."

"Right brother I wanted to tell you that after the Clan competition I'll be following you there. I'm planning on going to Blacksmithing city which is in that direction but my mom told me I had to spend some time with you until I was used to the outside world."

Pace started laughing "That's great I was going to say farewell but looks like we are going in the same direction."

Pace then changed the topic "Leon I see your friends with Eos."

"Well I kind of know her. She seems like a nice girl."

"Kind of? She had been raining around the clan asking everyone about you. I eventually told her you weren't here then she finally stopped." Pace then started to laughter "I think a lot of people think you and Eos are a thing."

"What! I've barely met her. I helped her few times but that is it. We are just friends."

"Really she is talented, I might ask her out myself if you aren't interested."

Leon seeing what Pace was doing played along. He looked at Pace in anger.

"Fine, Fine I'll stay away. I was kidding. I don't have time for romance." Pace said dramatically. "If you like her why didn't you just say so."

"Well like you" Leon copied Pace "I don't have time for romance."

"But seriously, you should talk to her now. News of her talent has spread through thousands of kilometers. Far away clans have already sent invitations thinking about engaging Eos to top talents in there clan."

Pace loved as if he was about to vomit "That Brandon from the Ash clan that rules the Ash Lake City is said to like Eos a lot. He has also awakened a five voidstar rank primal beast at the age of eight. It is supposed to be the Flame Eater Crocodile." He then goes back to his cheery mood "it is fine though, as a brother I will help you as much as I can."

Leon looked at Pace, his face showed his thankfulness. There were no words spoken but Pace knew his brothers thoughts he stood tall next to him. As they both continued to watch the ceremony.

Leon got bored as he watched he said "So brother Pace what cultivation have you reached?"

"I'm about to break into summoning Teacher."

"He's almost reached summoning teacher rank! It took him two more years in my past life. Seems like my talent was absorbed by the Falling Star Flame Pengs increasing its talent and Pace's talent in turn." Leon thought

"Wow! brother you're really fast."

Eventually the clan head announced Leon's name. He looked at Leon and noticed- now that he looked at him more closely that Leon seemed familiar. Noticing the change in gaze, Leon acted oblivious. He walked up the stairs. It was his turn to awaken his soul book.
