Rebirth: The Shadow Of Greed

Chapter 59 - Losing consciousness

He signalled his men to grab hold of Z and carried him away.

"It seems like we're in a deadlock situation, great Daymas, but you should let me go, my men and I will only take the boy, and your daughter will be our hostage for the first few kilometres you will not be following us for that leg of the journey. After which we will drop her off and the location will be made known to you. Is that a deal?"

Daymas clenched his knuckles, his daughter meant a lot to him, however, at the same time, this is someone else's kid here. He was in a dilemma, Daymas Aquos isn't the type of person who would throw another person under the bus.

As he stood there deliberating, Z opened his eyes, he had finally purged enough poison to regain his bodily control. Of course, he had been listening in to the conversation while pretending to be limp on the shoulder of a dark hunter.

Because he was hunched over someone's shoulder, he couldn't use his vision at all. He opened up his palm as he drew his dagger from its holster directly to his palm. With a swift stroke, he slid the dagger across the throat of the dark hunter, letting him gurgle out blood.

The ruckus made everyone lose focus and turn around watching the incident as it unfurled. Z extended his hand once again pointing it towards Addison and closed his grip.

A scream escaped from Addison's mouth as he dropped his dagger from his mangled hand.

Seeing the situation had changed Daymas sprung into action immediately using his ice to bind Addison not allowing him to make any moves. His guards supported Soli and placed her gently on the ground.

Z released the dagger in his hands, quickly letting them slit the throats of the remaining dark hunters and letting them fall to the floor convulsing. After that final act, Z fell to the floor losing all consciousness.

In a large mansion, a middle-aged man could be seen walking into his bedroom.

"Dear, how was the meeting? Is everything alright? You look tired"

"Well, there has been good news, it seems that Daymas has found his daughter and she's alive and well. The other kids are rescued too, and it seems like someone paid him to clean them up."

Sensing the slight shift in expression coming from his wife he turned to her ever so slightly,

"You wouldn't happen to know who commissioned the hit would you?"

"Of course not dear, how would little old me know who ordered a hit, let alone commissioning a big name like Addison the viper to make a move."

"That's odd, I never did mention it was Addison that took the job..."

The man looked at his wife with his eyebrows raised.

"Oh, husband! It was me, I admit it, you have to protect me. The kid humiliated our Kyzil, he humiliated our family! I only did what was necessary!"

"Don't give me that crap! You've spoilt the child so badly he's rotten. Now Addison is in Daymas' hand and if he were to know that his daughter was collateral damage from our idiot son's petty feud, you better believe that humiliation is the last thing he should be worried about."

The man said, he looked at his wife as he heaved a deep breath.

"You must protect Kyzil! He can't be killed because of some commoner kid!"

"I'll think of a way, if all else fails, I'm going to be a lizard and drop of a tail, go prepare your last rites, I'll make sure Kyzil is unharmed."

The man said cruelly as he left the room with his wife left sobbing in the room.

'Beep beep'

Z slowly opened his eyes to the rhythmic sound of a machine beeping away. He looked around the cleanroom while the smell of antiseptic attacked his nose.

He looked around trying to regain his posture, sitting up and attempting to remove the wires that were attached to him reading his vitals.

"Hey! You really shouldn't get up so soon!"

A nurse said, running into the room preventing him from pulling out the wires.

"Where... Where am I?"

Z asked curiously he felt like his head had been ripped apart.

"You're in a private hospital in A city, Lord Daymas brought you in here with your friends."

"My friends! How are they?"

"They're fine, just a bit banged up from the poison, but not to worry they are safe now. You're the first one awake, I've already let Lord Daymas know about your awakening, he will arrive soon to explain everything. But for now, please just lie down and rest."

Z lay back down on the bed as the nurse briskly left the room.

Shortly after Daymas arrived and pushed open the ward door. His imposing presence left a strong impression on Z who was in bed.

"You must be Zero Cromwell. I am lord Daymas, Soli's father. First and foremost, I must thank you for keeping my daughter safe. If it weren't for your quick actions, we would have let Addison get away and most importantly, I would have lost my daughter."

There was no sense of arrogance coming from Daymas, just pure sincerity, sincerely thanking the man that had saved his daughter.

"It's fine Lord Daymas, I did what I should as a soldier."

Z said as he struggled to sit up.

"It may be just a small action to you, but ultimately you've saved the life of my little girl. Anyway, right now we have Addison in custody, he won't be going anywhere until he coughs up the name of the one who dared to hire him."

Z nodded, he had millions of questions that were unresolved inside his mind, but he was still too tired to ask them.

"Did Odrunn and Soli get an antidote from the poison?"

"Oh, we've already had Addison cough up the antidote from the specific type of poison that they were inflicted with, they are just resting and recovering. The rest of the guards are alright too."
