Rebirth: The Shadow Of Greed

Odrunn who was holding onto underling 2, felt a hot liquid splash over his face. Having dyed red made Odrunn uncomfortable, but he persisted with the battle kicking the shin of underling 2, slamming him on the ground hard.

2 pieces of 8 flew by as it pierced underling 2's arms pinning him to the ground, while Z threw the dagger over to Odrunn. 

Odrunn caught the dagger and looked at underling 2 on the ground, his hands trembling as he approached him. 

"Let me do it." 

Zeno approached from behind, wanting to take the dagger from Odrunn. 

"No, I can do this."

Odrunn took the dagger near underling 2's throat, he had plenty of real life experiences killing beasts, but it was his first time taking a human life. He aimed the dagger at the artery and his trembling hands pushed down hard, severing the artery and letting the blood spurt out from within. 

Sitting down on the ground, he had the urge to vomit, but he held it in any way. This was something that his manifest could not heal, but rather something that he had to heal on his own. He wiped his face using his sleeve smearing more blood all over his face, now looking like a tomato. 

Z walked over and pat him on the back, good job Odrunn, rest now. We just have the last guy to take care of. 

Z recalled the pieces of 8 back into its original form and retrieved it. 

They now turned their attention to Ghostface who had been fighting against Daymas the entire time. The both of them seemed tired but none really had a serious injury. 

"His manifest allows him to turn intangible for 30 seconds before he has to recharge for 10 seconds! Help me catch hold of him! When he is tangible"

Daymas shouted out, initially he had kept the findings to himself because he wanted Ghostface to let his guard down. But right now, Ghostface is severely outnumbered, there was no point in hiding it, they could just trap him into doing it outright. 

"Tch, useless underlings! I'll need to ask the boss for new ones once I get back."

Ghostface knew the situation was imminent and there was really nothing he could do. Trading blows with Daymas was hard enough, not to mention there was now a whole group of them ready to fight. Not only that he went and lost the ch.i.p.s he had when the hostages were rescued. 

Z angled the pieces of 8 in a way that it followed Ghostface wherever he went, chasing him around as he dodged the attacks. At that point in time, he turned tangible again, dodging some attacks. 

The pieces of 8 struck down but they hit nothing, as it just passed through the intangible body of Ghostface. 

"You think you caught my weakness? You caught nothing! I've fought with you analytical types for too long, don't you think that I've developed some form of trickery I could use?" 

Ghostface laughed as he stood and smiled, his body once again tangible. 

'Puchi' a piece of 8 lodged in his c.h.e.s.t as he spat blood out. Turning intangible again, the piece of 8 dropped to the floor. 

"How…? How did I get hit?"

"Uncle Daymas was right, it seems you can only go for 30 seconds before recharging. But you also can split the time up. I've counted your time, you have another 2 seconds more before you time out and another 2 seconds needed to charge." 

Z smiled as he stared down the horrified Ghostface. 

Daymas readied himself as he prepared for the 2-second intangibility to be up so he could deal the heavy blow.

"Tchh, I wasn't expecting to get hurt. You should thank your lucky stars that my boss isn't here. I guess it's time to bid farewell."

Just as his intangibility was up he pulled out a remote control and pressed the button. 

'Boom!' a loud sound came from the large transport artefact as it was consumed in a ball of flame, the huge transport artefact went airborne as it flew towards the direction of Soli and the kids. 

Odrunn dashed forward standing in front of Soli and the kids, preparing himself to take the artefact himself. While Soli threw up a barrier. Zeno was prepared to protect Odrunn and take the brunt of the damage. 

Distracted, Daymas gave up on his attack and ran over, trying to freeze the artefact or at least try to hit it with an attack praying that the artefact will be knocked away. 

Z raised his hand as he used his telekinesis to try to stop it. He promptly raised his other hand using his full control to try to prevent the large transport artefact from dealing more damage than it already did. 

Exerting himself, his nose started to bleed as the strain on his mind grew stronger and stronger. The artefact was slowing down in midair however it was still inching closer and closer towards Odrunn and Soli. 

Arel immediately tried to pull the kids away. But there were too many frightened kids rooted on the ground. 

Sandra who was in Soli's embrace saw Z struggling broke free from Soli and started to run towards Z. 

"Big brother!"

She screamed as she dashed forward holding on to Z tightly. In that instant, Z felt a surge of power running through his body, the artefact felt lighter and lighter, the burden on his mind had been removed and he could easily manipulate the artefact. 

Was this the power of love? The power of friendship? It was none of that, what Sandra had, was a void manifest. Her manifest was a special one, allowing her to boost the manifests of others. 

Z was completely stunned, the load that had been a problem for him had been easily resolved and he tossed aside the hunk of metal oh so easily. Looking at Sandra, memories had filled his head. 

"Oh god!"
