Reincarnation: Love After Death

Chapter 37 - A Dream and A Memory

Elaia was running into the woods. She doesn't know why, but she feels like she has to chase someone. Someone really important.

She continues to run to the point that it was already hard for her to breathe. But the person she's chasing is more important. She can already see the shadow of the person.

The mysterious person stopped running away from her, and looked at her. She can't see his whole face because of the darkness that surrounds him. His gray eyes were sparkling not because of the reflection from the moon above them but because tears have already formed there.

Sadness.

Pain.

Elaia asked the mystery guy, "Why are you crying?"

"Because I wasn't there when I should have been there." he answered.

"What are you talking about?"

"Someday you'll realize that meeting someone like me is the greatest mistake that you've ever made."

Elaia shook her head, not agreeing with what the man said. "You're saying that but why do I feel that it's the only right thing I've ever done in my life? That in the verge of dying, it feels like you've made me feel so alive?"

The person stepped closer to her. So close that she saw who the man is. "D? Why.."

Before she can finish her question, she was f.o.r.c.i.b.l.y pulled away from D. And she screamed at the top of her lungs.

"Nooooooo!!!!" Elai screamed and struggled to get free from the grip that was pulling her away.

Then she heard someone yelling her name. "Elaia! Elaia wake up! Babe, wake up! Open your eyes for me, Elaia."

Elaia woke up. D was now hugging her and patting her back. Cooing her with soothing words to calm her down, "It was just a bad dream. It wasn't real."

"I've dreamed of you. You... you were crying.."

"Why would I cry?" D asked.

"You said that you weren't there when... when you should've been."

D froze. "Say that again."

Elaia looked up and met D's gray eyes, "You said to me that you weren't there when you should've been. Why did you made me repeat it again, D?"

D shook his head and looked up as if he was recalling something. "I recently read the two books from the God of Heaven and Lucifer. There was a story of a woman who killed the man she loves in order to save him from being evil. The woman cried for her dying lover that was still cradled in her arms. The man asked him why she's crying, and the woman answered the same words you've said to me right now."

Elaia was puzzled so she questioned D, "But in my dream, you were the one who's crying. Does that mean that I'll be evil so you'll eventually kill me?"

D looked at her and said, "I don't think so. It's just a story in that book. And the ending was like this. The man was not granted to enter both heaven and earth. He was locked in some place that no one knows except the God of Heaven and Lucifer."

"What happened to the woman? And who are they?"

"The woman's name is Sarfolia, whose beauty can bring damnation to every country. It was unknown in the book about what happened to her after she killed her lover. The man's name is Drackon, whose strength can compare with the Gods. But as far as I know they're both humans. So possibly, Sarfolia is dead, and Drackon is still locked up somewhere."

Elaia hugged D and whispered, "Why do I have those kind of dreams? Am I going to die?"

"No. You won't." And without even saying it out loud, D knows that this is a promise he'll keep. She'll stay alive as long as he can make it that way. He won't let her die.

Elaia hugged D tighter, "D, even if I die someday. Know that it's never your fault. It was destined that way."

Tears trickled down D's cheeks. He didn't even know why he cried.

'It was destined that way'

Oddly, it sounds very familiar to D. Like a distant memory.
