Chapter 37: Calm Down

It surprised Qian Yurou that Huang Ruobing was calling at such a time. But when she recalled the incident with her family’s gold store, Qian Yurou basically understood why.

“Little Bing, is something up?” Qian Yurou spoke in a sweet and coquettish tone. Many people who didn’t understand the truth would just assume that they were the best of friends.

Hearing that Qian Yurou was still in the mood to flirt with her, Huang Ruobing relaxed. “What else? I just heard about your family’s store. Don’t you do anything rash for now.”

Prior to this, Qian Yurou would have acted according to her impulses. But after Huang Ruobing and Ye Yang had put in the effort to advise her, Qian Yurou eventually calmed down.

“I know. Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.” Knowing that Huang Ruobing would worry, Qian Yurou became much more obedient when it came to this matter.

Huang Ruobing finally eased up. “Thank goodness. Behaving rashly is most discouraged at a time like this. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you so I’m worried.”

“On the other hand, you seemed quite relaxed when it comes to this. After getting a boyfriend, you haven’t seen me since,” Qian Yurou complained in the same coquettish tone. She then eyed Ye Yang as if she was trying to search for something.

Huang Ruobing sounded helpless over the phone, obviously not expecting Qian Yurou to say something like this. “It’s not like you don’t know my situation. I don’t even have time to sleep anymore, much less care about something like this.”

Huang Ruobing was under a lot of pressure, and for this reason, she felt helpless. Qian Yurou was merely joking as she knew what Huang Ruobing was currently facing.

“What’s there for you to be busy about? Don’t you have a boyfriend to protect you? He looks charming and you two are a match made in heaven.” The was a hint of jealousy in Qian Yurou’s tone, and this made Huang Ruobing chuckle.

Feeling a lot better, she said, “It looks like you two have met. So, what do you think about my taste in men?”

Qian Yurou hadn’t expected Huang Ruobing to be this keen. She laughed in response as well. However, Qian Yurou was aware that Huang Ruobing had many private matters so she didn’t take it to heart.

“He’s quite nice and very passionate,” Qian Yurou said after pondering for a bit. It was evident she had a good impression of Ye Yang. “If it weren’t for him, I would’ve rushed over to the crime scene immediately. I doubt that I’d even have time to take your call now.”

Upon hearing this, Huang Ruobing’s worries faded away. “That’s great then. When I first heard about it, I was worried sick about you. Thank God Ye Yang’s there.”

“Do you have that much faith in him?” Mild interest surfaced in Qian Yurou’s expression. Since a young age, Huang Ruobing had been an existence that far surpassed her peers. It was only natural for her to have higher standards so even Qian Yurou hadn’t heard her praise someone else this way before.

Huang Ruobing’s tone was quite casual as she replied, “Considering how great he is in all aspects, how could I not have faith in him? It’s not like you have no idea how hectic things have been on my end. He has helped me quite a lot, I’m telling you…”

Ye Yang felt his head throbbing in pain. As expected, when an aloof person comes across a topic they were interested in, there would be no end to their conversation. Though, Huang Ruobing did sound mildly proud as she spoke about Ye Yang.

Admittedly, Ye Yang had provided her with a near-perfect track record.

Huang Ruobing was aware that she couldn’t have dealt with the situation better than Ye Yang. So even though she was giving an objective assessment of her “boyfriend”, it sounded like she was bragging.

Qian Yurou wasn’t an ignorant little princess. As she was taking over her father’s position, she was aware of the struggle behind the scenes so Qian Yurou knew full well how troubled Huang Ruobing was.

After knowing that Ye Yang was a man of great caliber, Qian Yurou heaved a sigh in relief. She didn’t wish to see Huang Ruobing tire herself out after all.

The longer they spoke, the more Qian Yurou was shocked by Ye Yang’s capabilities. This should have been an incredibly difficult time for Huang Ruobing.

However, both women weren’t that interested in talking about work, so they switched topics shortly after. By now, Qian Yurou had fully changed her opinion of Ye Yang.

Qian Yurou was a beautiful woman. All her life, she had had many pursuers. For this reason, she found herself disliking men who casually approached her.

As this was how she lived her life, Qian Yurou was prejudiced against Ye Yang from the start. It was only after talking to Huang Ruobing that she realized how wrong she had been.

After hanging up, Qian Yurou said nothing else but called her bodyguard instead.

“Help me check if there are suspicious people loitering around our store.”

By now, the police must have sealed off the area. Even if Qian Yurou was the store’s owner, she wouldn’t be allowed to enter as she pleased. Moreover, since Ye Yang insisted that this incident was targeted at her, that would mean the perpetrators would have many traps laid out.

As Qian Yurou looked at Ye Yang, she seemed slightly uncomfortable, clearly regretting how conceited she had been earlier.

Qian Yurou’s bodyguard was highly efficient. It only took a short while for him to return with accurate information. When Qian Yurou listened to the report, she inadvertently felt a chill run down her spine.

Qian Yurou’s family business was massive so their bodyguards weren’t just hired for display. They had swiftly found suspicious traces left around the crime scene, though it wasn’t much.

By the time they managed to uncover all the details, the suspicious individuals with unknown backgrounds had left discreetly, just like how they came without warning.
