Scarlet's Awakening

Chapter 2 - The Choice

"Oh you've got to be kidding me!"

The shocked face Sheila had already planned to ask the guy if he was doing okay. After that, she will take him to the hospital and leave him there— not wanting to pay the hospital bills because she had no cash.

Then she's going to go home to her little bedspace of a room and take her long-deserved nap!

Sadly, Sheila's plans have been derailed from its original path, now that she's staring at the unconscious man in her hands. Sheila has better things to do than nag an unconscious man in the middle of the street!

Looking at the people around her, Sheila opened her mouth and called for help. Yet nobody took notice of her.

"Uhmm. Excuse me? Can anyone give me a hand here? Anybody?" she asked, trying to get their attention.

Sheila was hoping that somebody would respond to her request. Unfortunately, They treated her like air, not sparing her a single glance.

"Excuse me, sir."

Even though she was having a hard time keeping the unconscious man steady, Sheila still grabbed a random stranger's coat.

"Sir, can you help me?" she asked.

The stranger looked at her, then at the unconscious man leaning on her shoulders, and said. "I'm afraid I can't help you, Miss. I'm in a hurry right now,"

Brushing off her hand, the man walked away Leaving Sheila sighing to herself.

Everyone's concerned about their own business. No one's going to help her take this man across the street. The only thing she could do is suck it up and finish this. But before Sheila could do that, she had to move the unconscious man to her back so that she could comfortably lift him up in a semi piggyback position.

Counting to three, Sheila held the man's hands. Ducking a little, she easily put herself in front of him.

When the man leaned his weight on her back, Sheila couldn't help but grimace.

"So heavy!"

But, she wasn't finished yet.

Sheila clenched her jaws as she took a deep breath through her nose.

After that, she took the arms of the guy on either side of her shoulders She bent her knees and pushed him forward, giving it a little bit of strength, until she felt comfortable with him on her back.

Sheila held the man's hands in front of her c.h.e.s.t.

"Okay, let's do this!"

After doing fist pump for herself, Sheila started dragging the man on her back one step at a time.

One minute later...

Sheila was starting to sweat like a fool! For her, Dragging this man felt like climbing a steep mountain while carrying a sack of rice behind her back.

It was exhausting. Her legs even started trembling, losing their strength.

Sheila's determination wasn't that weak though or she would have abandoned this man a looooong time ago.

Looking up at the sky where the stars are looking down on her. Sheila couldn't help but sigh, hoping that a shooting star would emerge so that she could make a stupid wish.

Honestly speaking, she yearns for something that will change her life for the better. Like, for example, finding a lucky lottery ticket where she wins a lot of money. Or maybe, an accident that will give her a truckload of money in the end if there's something like that.

Nonetheless, what was she expecting? Money is not going to fall from the sky! Or were they trees?

Nevertheless, Sheila is already depressed enough to genuinely hope for a bizarre situation to bring money to her l.a.p. Unfortunately, these conditions exist only in fictional books, and not in the real world.

Sheila looked at the traffic light. It was Red, and the noise of the cars going through the intersection reached her ears.

Sheila held unto the man's polo shirt sleeves and continued pulling him forward.

Almost there... They're almost in the middle of the street. A little more and then they're going to-* Bebeeeep! Beeeeeeeeeeep!*

Sheila heard a loud horn directed at her. Frowning, she looked to the source of that noise and saw a truck going at a very alarming speed without slowing down.

The headlights were out so Sheila could see the driver's panic-stricken face from where she was. The man was hysterically slamming on the breaks and froze when he saw that there were still people standing still in the middle of the street.

He stuck half of his body out of the window, shouting at Sheila.

"Get out of the way! Get out of the way!"

But then it was too late. The truck was already too close. There's no chance for her and the unconscious man to get away in time.

It's either Sheila leaves him and makes a run for it to save her own life, or force him out of the way, thinking it would be enough to save him from being run over and let him live his life instead.

Time slowed down at the most crucial moment. Sheila doesn't know why, but everything around her seemed to be frozen still.

Looking down at her trembling hands, she had to make a big decision. If she hesitates and fails to make a decision too late, the death of her along with the unconscious man is sure to come.

Time doesn't wait for anyone, and there wasn't enough time for Sheila to postpone her decisions any longer.
