Scarlet's Awakening

Chapter 4 - An Impostor

In the memories Sheila received, she learned that Scarlet Rose was the name of the real owner of the body she's in.

"Strange..." she mumbled. "Shouldn't my name be the same as the body's owner?"

Sheila didn't get her answers since nobody answered her question anyway. She was just talkingto herself.

Anyway, the original owner, Scarlet Rose, almost died when she was still a little girl. But she managed to survive a great tragedy that occurred a thousand years ago. Her clan was wiped out by mysterious armed troops holding red banners with the crest of a flying crimson phoenix.

She wouldn't have survived if not for her elder sister, who used all her residual magic to send her to another dimension. From there, Scarlet had lived her entire life in Gehenna, known as the realm of the abandoned, begging for scraps while growing up.

Fortunately, a loving couple took her in. They weren't human, they were humanoid creatures called the lizardfolk and has green scales all over their bodies and snake-like yellow eyes making them terrifying to look at.

But aside their frightening appearance, the lizard couple was kind to her. Their names were Gana and Lilica and they treated Scarlet like their own and raised her with love and affection.

When Scarlet reached the age of 14, her magic powers started to manifest.

The couple couldn't show her how to harness her abilities, since only high born monsters were the only one that could use magic at will. But they didn't drive her out even when she accidentally destroyed objects inside their home countless times. Unable to control her newfound powers.

Scarlet was 16 when the couple tragically died. A horde of orcs attacked them while traveling with a party of traders to the town of Haling Cove to buy food and supplies. At that time, Scarlet wasn't there to save them because she was still recovering from fever for two days and Gana and Lilica told her to stay behind.

Scarlet regretted not being able to go with them, even though she had not been able to control her powers yet. She wanted to protect them.

Gana and Lilica's deaths prompted Scarlet to set out on a quest where she slowly built her empire.

She crossed the vast lands of the realm in search of power and defeated the fearsome demons along the way. She liberated territories and gained loyal followers.

In 30 years, Scarlet established the Rozen Empire, where she ruled for almost 500 years. And like a goddess, she already lived a long life.

She stopped growing older the day she reached the age of 18, where she can harness her powers and manipulate all the elements at will.

Her commanders were searching for answers about her real identity across the realms but sadly she didn't have enough time to find the answers she was looking for, as she was dragged into the Great War of the Realms.

The great war was brutal, and many races had lost their lives. Following 10 years of bitterness, the war was almost over, and the other 8 realms were at a disadvantage.

Scarlet's armies are winning the war. So, they decided to form a coalition to defeat her in exchange for peace and a fair distribution of the resources they could get from Gehenna.

When the coalition was formed, Scarlet was surrounded by enemies on all sides. Her magic was almost drained in the final moments of the fight, but she pushed herself to use a huge spell.

Scarlet used all her magic to make an explosion that was, in reality, an illusion that she was destroying Gehenna along with her- but was actually saving herself and her kingdom. Scarlet brought all of them to the dark dimension and fell into a coma.

Shiela stopped looking into the memories. It will take her time to process all the knowledge inside her mind, reading more and more of Scarlet's memories will make her head to once again hurt.

Sheila winced in pain and Eigeel saw it.

"My Queen are you alright?"

She looked at Eigeel. The worry on his face was clear, but he did not move to touch her.

"I'm fine. I was just thinking about something."

When she said that, Eigeel looked like he wanted to ask her to tell him more, but he bowed his head rather than giving in to his d.e.s.i.r.es. "Very well, my queen" and performed an exquisite genuflection.

What is with this world and all the courtesies?

Sheila frowned, clearing her throat.

"Ummmm. Can I ask you something?"

"Of course,"

"Uhhhh. How can you understand me, by the way?"

Eigeel looked up at her. His face held confusion but it was gone as soon as she saw it.

Other worlds have different languages but she was able to understand him when she heard him speak. Isn't that strange? She thought.

"To answer that, my queen, this world has a spell called language acquisition. With it, you will be able to understand and speak every foreign language even when you hear it only once. It's a very common spell."

"Hmmm. Then I'm not going to have a hard time communicating with the people here then." She mumbled to herself.

"Did you say something, my queen?"

Sheila immediately shook her head.. "No. Nothing at all... So, where are the other members of the Scarlet Order?" she asked.

Eigeel bowed his head briefly before saying, "They're in their respective domains, my queen." and immediately added. "If her highness wishes to assemble the Scarlet Order, then I will call them for you."

Sheila opened her mouth to say yes, but hesitated.

The Scarlet Order has worked closely with Scarlet for hundreds of years. And that's a very long time. Together, they have committed themselves to create the Rozen Empire from the ground up, and if she decides to meet the members of the Order right now, it is likely that they will notice her difference with the real Scarlet Rose.

For the long-time they served by her side, they should know her characteristics and mannerisms. With those factors involved, there is a possibility that they might suspect she's an impostor!

Sheila had already seen how Eigeel was treating her. He doesn't seem to doubt her at all.

He probably thought she had a slight amnesia, so he didn't question her identity when she was starting to be strange.

While Sheila's acting skills may be useful towards Eigeel at the moment. With the other members of the S.O. (Scarlet Order), she bet they'd realize she's an impostor in a single glance.

But that's just a thought.

Sheila is willing to do an experiment and see if they'd see through her acting but unfortunately, there is no reset button in this world like in video games. No lifelines, or even 3 lives to waste.
