Scarlet's Awakening

Chapter 46 - Cariyah...

Rosevelt Palace, Eigeel's study…

Eigeel looked outside his window. Both of his hands behind his back as he stared into nothingness, his thoughts in a messy disarray as his secretary, Katerina, continued to report to him the state of the kingdom and its current issues that needed his attention.

Eigeel looked distracted, he wasn't really listening to his ȧssistants reports but he didn't want to appear lazy in his work as the prime minister so, he sometimes picks up some key words like 'rebels' and 'spies' from her reports to guess what she was talking about.

"Also, the queen has left the western gate safely according to the guards..."

That quickly got Eigeel's attention though, "We're there no incidents that happened along the way?"

Katerina fixed her librarian style glasses as she spoke, "The road was blocked for a while so the queen was a bit delayed from her journey. But then lady aqua fixed the issue and they were able to resume their travel."

Eigeel exhaled a breath of relief. "I see." He looked at his ȧssistant who was standing erectly in front of him. She was watching him with her intelligent purple eyes, her long ashen hair gently getting blown by the wind while waiting for him to speak or say his orders.

"Do you have any more reports to tell me, Katerina?" he asked.

She shook her head. "None, milord."

"Hmn. Then you can leave me now. I'll call for you when I need you..." He said.

Katerina nodded then slightly bowed her head, "Of course..."

When Katerina finally left his office, another presence suddenly appeared behind his back when he looked outside the window once again. The person was making his presence know since it wasn't cloaking his magic from him.

"You're back…"

A soothing female voice replied, "Indeed, I am."

Eigeel turned around to face his visitor. "You work fast, Cariyah."

The old woman called Cariyah smiled, "One of my most redeeming qualities, if I do say so myself." she said playfully before dispelling her disguise. Now, she looked like a woman in her mid-20s. Super young and extremely beautiful, like a fairy with her raven black hair and honey yellow eyes.

"As the notorious white witch, it seems that you are not so bad at doing other peoples dirty work..."

Cariyah responded with a shrug and then said; "I used to work under a master, but not anymore..."

Eigeel sat on his chair, not commenting on her words since it sounded like a sour topic for her. Let's go down to business then, "So, what did you find?"

The woman gave him a look, "You know… If you didn't promise to give your soul as payment I would've declined your request the moment I heard it..."

"But you didn't." .

The woman gave him an amused chuckle, "Did I now?"

Eigeel sighed, "I'm giving you a quarter of my soul, Cariyah. No more, no less..." He said, correcting her; "And if you still want my soul, you should start talking... Right now..."

Cariyah huffed, moving her pouted lips from left to right.

"Fine…" She took a seat in front of him and then folded her arms. "I don't understand why you're paying me to investigate her though... I thought you were loyal."

"I am indeed loyal to my queen. And I still am..." he said truthfully. Even at that moment when the explosion happened days ago, he was still loyal to her. But what happen made Eigeel think about the changes in Scarlet's behaviour and her usual way of speaking. He also thought above the devided soul he saw when he was searching for her when she got lost in the other dimension.

He has this uneasy feeling inside his ċhėst that's why he left the palace to find some answers in the secret district of the capital city called the Lagoon.

The lagoon is where most of the under the table dealings take place and where the black market usually strives. He was there looking for answers so he went to the famous information guild in the Lagoon called the Black Circus.

In there he asked the guild master where to purchase a rare, special scroll that can summon anyone he wanted to summon and they pointed him to the direction of the prestigious Auction House of Dhalohr where they sell the finest items you can ever find in Gehenna.

When Eigeel finally hand his hands on the scroll the very same night, he went back to the palace and used it in the secret dungeon so that no one will ever notice what he was doing. There, he used the scroll by reading the incantation needed for it to activate then dropped his blood on it.

At first the scroll didn't react. But then it suddenly glowed. It was working... Eigeel waited for some time for the scroll to summon the person he was looking for but then the glowing ended and there was no one there when the scroll vanished.

"Did you just called for me?"

A female voice suddenly said behind him. Eigeel slowly turned around and saw a woman wearing a large cloak that covered her whole body and half of her face. She was casually leaning on a pillar, flinging around a pocket watch in her hands.

"I thought I failed."

The female chuckled. "Oh, you did. I was already following you when you entered the information's guild."

"I see. Then why didn't you make yourself known, Cariyah, or should I say, Cariyah, the white witch?"

She chuckled again, but now it was from the amusement. "Well, I can't blame you if your powers are getting weaker... Golden Sky Dragon, Eigeel, or should I say... the fallen dragon king, Eigeel." she bit back. Making Eigeel quiet for a while.

Eigeel didn't reply.

Those titles were his past... Before he started serving Scarlet as her aid and confidant, he was those things Cariyah had mentioned.

But he was no longer a king. He had lost both his people and his nation, and all that's left of their ashes was his beloved sister, the dragon princess Eireen.

"You seemed to be running out of time..."

Eigeel flinched.

"Also, I wanted to see what expression you will make when you finally realized that you've wasted your fortune on a very rare scroll that was deemed useless in the end.." she laughed.
