SHINOBI In A World Of Magic

Chapter 10 - 10: Byakugan!

In an out of town estate, two girls were in the garden using magic, they were very passionate when it came to becoming a mage. They were both prodigies in their own right and had great talent in magic. Light element is an ominous elemental affinity and appears rarely in people, however even if they had affinity for light it wouldn't be that strong, same case with Dark element. Both of these elements had no advantages or disadvantages with the 5 basic elements.

"[Blinding light]." Tiana had excellent affinity for light and some affinity for fire. "[Flame]."

"[Gust]" Sylvie had excellent affinity for wind. The two girls were chanting low tier spells to pass their time. Though it seems reckless, the estate was designed to resist most grand tier spells. After more than an hour of leisurely spell casting, they decided to take a breather. "Hey Tia."

"Hmm?" Tiana hummed.

"What exactly were you staring at during the procession." Sylvie was curious since yesterday.

"Oh, nothing, like I said I was just lost in thought." Tiana gave an excuse.

"Then what was the thought you were lost in?" Sylvie became even nosier.

"U-uhm, just how warm the welcome and how big the turnout was." Tiana gave another excuse.

"Heeee~" Sylvie wasn't buying it at all. "Come on, we're friends there's no need for secrets."

"Like I said, I was just distracted." Tiana said.

"Hmm? Distracted? That's not what you said before." Sylvie drew closer.

This continued till finally, Tiana had to give the full story. Sylvie couldn't believe what she heard, abduction and a strange kid? She thought it would be an a.d.u.l.t gnome or maybe the unlikely dwarf, but Tiana said his voice wasn't that deep, so she concluded that he was a kid.

"Achoo! Have people been talking about me again?" Yohan sneezed. He disregarded it and continued with what he was doing. 'God' had promised to give almost all the dojutsu to him, he wanted to try to manually awaken his byakugan. Though the sharingan was in itself a very versatile ocular kekkei genkai, or in Yohan's case kekkei mora, it couldn't see through fog, smoke or any kind of obstruction of the eyes that wasn't illusions. Byakugan could do this very easily, along with sensing other people by their 'chakra' or 'mana' signatures. "HMMMMMM" Yohan strained, looking into the mirror, he saw some visible veins and a slight whitening of the irises making a lighter shade of red. "What? sharingan and byakugan?" Yohan saw some tomoes as well. He couldn't decide a name for this combination, so for now he would call it 'Heaven's eyes'. Both ocular kekkei mora minimized each other's weak points since they complimented each other very well. He relaxed as both irises returned to their normal red and veins no longer shown. He would try to activate the byakugan seperately at a later time since he already knows he can.

"For now let's activate [Wood Sage]" Yohan decided to activate sage mode. He sat still for a second and he immediately felt light and felt his senses sharpen. It was a much more noticeable powerup than the byakugan's, since he could sense ever more clearly in every direction without any blind spots. He felt that his chakra was enhanced by several fold, he looked in the mirror for any transformations which could be symptoms of over saturation of nature energy. He saw none, in fact he felt nature energy was very gentle when it entered him as it didn't overwhelm him.

He wanted to try out a few jutsus. So he left a shadow clone home and went to the forest a few kilometers out of town where monsters lurked. He used [Transformation jutsu] to look like one of those mages from earlier in the year, so as to not raise much suspicion when he was chain teleporting, since this was his first time going to the forest. He arrived deep inside the forest and performed a few hand seals "[Sage Art: Wood Serpent jutsu]!" Out of the soil, a wooden cobra, more than twice the thickness and length of a fully grown anaconda, emerged. "It has grown much larger before." Inspecting his wood creation he decided to test out it's strength. He needed a target and a durable one at that. "I need a target"

"Groaaah" An ugly creature, lime in color, with a beer belly, tusks protruding out of its mouth from its lower jaw, wielding a large wooden club, standing twice to three times the height of a normal person, had emerged from behind a tree.

"Ask and you shall receive." Yohan stayed with the 'snake' hand seal and willed it towards that creature. It tried to smash the serpent with it's club, but his club didn't make a single dent. The serpent entangled itself around the creature, constricting it. It struggled, but the wooden serpent grew thicker and the leaves on it became more vibrant as time passed on. The serpent was absorbing it's victim's mana basically making the creature struggle against it's own energy. The struggles became less and less until there was no longer any movement. "Well, I guess this would be my first kill, since coming to this world." Yohan willed the serpent to strangle it. It squeezed until there was a large scream and audible breaking of bones. The serpent went away, but Yohan looked at the corpse, he nearly hurled thinking that it was him who did it, so he immediately left. After a few minutes, there was a rustle in the bushes.

"Was the scream coming from here?" A group of about 7 mages came to inspect. They were greeted by the creature, in a slumped position.

"Woaah! What killed this ogre?" One of the mages spoke. Ogres were D-ranked monsters. It wasn't impressive to take it down for these mages, but they were afraid of what killed it.

"Woaah, this thing just looks like bag of slag." They poked the corpse. It still had the thick skin, but the firm bones and muscles were shattered creating a sort of liquid instead of a solid frame for the bag of flesh.

"I don't know, but I think we should report this. Maybe it's a new monster that has appeared here." The mages concurred and left the area.
