SHINOBI In A World Of Magic

A few months have passed, Yohan had a great time. He has gotten a better grip on his jutsus and had some worthwhile memories such as the ghost scare during Halloween; it was hilarious, he disguised himself as the ogre walking through walls, emerging out of floors scaring the living daylights out of his and Stella's parents, Amber was out trick or treating with her friends when the prank happened. Their parents still don't know that it was their prank. They still have a few nightmares of that time, since they would toss and turn, perhaps Yohan and Stella were a bit mean. Amber will be going to Advent magic academy. She has seen a great boon from sparring with her little brother since the summer vacation till now. She will miss home, but will be back during the school breaks.

"Well, I'm going to miss you all!" At the entrance of the academy, Amber was bidding farewell to her family and Stella and her family. She was bringing her stuff to settle in the girl's dormitory. Her friends were waiting behind her.

"Big sis Amber! I'm going to come to Advent too!" Yohan stated.

"Me too! Me too!" Stella pumped her fist into the air. They all wished the best for Amber, not that it was needed since she was keeping ahead of her course. Advent magic academy was one of 3 major magic academies in Hakono. The others were Magnus Academy and Trivia Lyceum. Ranking them according to the strength of both the staff and student body, Magnus was first, Advent came second and Trivia was last which showed during competitions and tournaments. It wasn't that drastic of a difference, however it was distinguishable enough that the public developed an opinion in ranking them as such. Yohan could easily apply for those big magic academies in the capital, but he didn't pursue power or fame. He knows he would be more powerful than any entity in Orbis and fame was a hassle.

"I'll be looking forward to it. Don't either of you slack on your training." Amber was strict when it came down to it. Stella had been training with her daggers, her magic was a bit lacking but she made up for it with her natural speed.

Beast-kin would usually have better physical abilities be it in the form of bodily resilience or speed depending on their 'animal half'. Elves have great magical abilities, but they had frail physical bases. Dwarves had mages but, most of them were enchanter mages; their race is very talented in rune making.

"My little girl is growing up so fast!" Vincent was busy lamenting. He was sniffling, Vivian was consoling him, the sight of a grown man crying was embarrassing but seeing it was due to his daughter made it more heartwarming. He dried his tears. "If you ever get a boyfriend introduce him to me, don't worry we'll just have a.... heart to heart talk!" Vincent quickly switched to overprotective. Vivian pinched him on the side. Amber blushed as everyone else giggled, even Amber's friends behind her.

"Big bro Cain! I want to come to Advent magic academy too!" A kid's voice was heard from the other side. Yohan turned and saw a family of a girl, a boy, a father and a mother. The blond little girl with curls was looking up towards the older dirty blond boy carrying bags with determination.

"Felicia, you don't have to go to this school, your talent is enough to land you in Magnus academy." The brown haired father said with a cold voice. The other boy carrying baggage was clenching his bag strap.

"But I want to be with big bro!" Felicia objected.

"You're going to Magnus academy, your talent would be wasted here." The father affirmed.

"Derek, please let her have her choice!" The blond mother spoke. The father just harrumphed and turned away. She sighed. "Just do your best Cain, we will always love you, even though your father doesn't openly show it." Cain nodded with his head down.

"Hey big bro look! It's that whip girl who you said put up a hard fight." Felicia said something, causing Cain to immediately cover her mouth to silence her. However, Yohan had caught it. He was surprised that Cain would not downplay his sister's ability, going by cliches he would be the overbearing young master. Amber walked over and pointed towards Cain.

"You maybe ahead for now, but I will leave you in the dust when we're in the academy, mark my words Cain!" Amber's fighting spirit had been ignited, she would not allow herself to be discouraged just from one battle and will strive even harder to out do anyone from her age cohort.

"Let's see if you can at least catch up." Cain wasn't backing down, thus began a rivalry. Felicia was looking at Yohan with fire in her eyes, she had seen their interactions and had inferred they were siblings, it seems that she has found a rival too.

"You! you're her brother right?" Felicia was pointing at Yohan. "I'm going to be a champion when I grow up, so get used to eating my dust." She spat out similar words to Amber. Mages are ranked:

Hero is the title for champion ranked mages who are ranked in the top 10. Arthur Reeves is ranked third and was called 'the hero' since rank 1 and 2 never showed their face to the public, effectively making him an icon. Magic academy students were like the genin to chunin, they had to learn low tier to intermediate tier spells and must to be able to do so with great ease. Not only that, their combat prowess, fighting styles and such must be honed enough to handle monsters and the occasional rogue mage. Some of the capital's academies made their students cast at least advanced tier magic to graduate.

"Sure, you can stop at champion if you want." Yohan said. "Who else but a mediocre mage would be satisfied with that? When you can look to new heights." Yohan had a sharp tongue. His words were clear and arrogant to the a.d.u.l.ts, however Felicia couldn't decipher it but, took it as an insult all the same.
