SHINOBI In A World Of Magic

Chapter 14 - 14: Last Chance

~3 days later ~

= In a control room full of holographic screens=

"Hmmmm, so this is what those fellows compiled from their reports?" A mage in a trench-coat wearing a weathered expression inspected closely the images and reports on the screens. "It looks like it was done by a number of different creatures."

"The red giant might just be one of many monsters lurking near the periphery," Another mage standing beside said.

"It's a wonder that there hasn't been any huge battles occurring near there if that's the case." "How can no one spot such a huge thing approaching," "They said it just appeared and dissappeared" "Look at the other pictures about the ogre case there, those tracks made by a sort of slithering creature." "Or it maybe treant roots seeing as there is a hole and a large root of wood near it." "That would be bizzare for an aggressive treant to be so close to the edge of the forest." The discussion of these mages broke out.

"We have to be more vigilant with a monster that doesn't even flinch at a bombardment of intermediate and advanced tier spells." The weathered mage spoke. "Send this out to every guilds, I'm afraid this doesn't seem to be an isolated case of high ranked monsters wandering close to the edge."

"Sir, what about the artifact theives?" Another mage wearing glasses spoke.

"It's been 2 years, we haven't shown up with any other tips besides the one from the hero. Our priority is the security of the populace." The weathered mage spoke.

"So, Archus is now occupied with... a red giant?" A puzzled voice spoke.

"Well half of one anyways among other things according to the full description circulating from our intel." A black haired man with a jacket stood by.

"That thing must be really something. Well never mind the details, since they are directing their attention elsewhere, we should have a lot more breathing room to move much more easily." The voice spoke again.

"Yes, after 2 years, we can finally acquire that lantern." The jacketed man spoke.

"Yes with that we will have all 3 artifacts needed to fulfill our end of the bargain. I leave it to you to not disappoint me, Thomas." The voice was expectant.

"Yes master Nathaniel, I will not fail you." The jacket wearing Thomas maintained his servile tone.

"Those weird clients had given us 5 years deadline but, with only less than a year left this might be our last chance." Nathaniel was playing with something under his cloak. Thomas exited the room leaving a figure and a glint of light illuminating an old visage brooding with greed in his eyes and a crooked smile directed upon some sort of treasure. "Can't have too much wealth, hehehe."

= In a charming house in Hakono =

"Hehehe, you can't catch me, I'm way ahead in first place." A girly voice c.o.c.kily stated.

"Don't count your chicks before they're all hatched." An unwilling voice retorted. "Take this blue shell."

"Oh no!" the girl said with a voice void of crisis.

"Dangit, How do you always have the speaker?"

"Skill!"

"Skill my a-"

"Hello Yohan, Stella, dinner is ready come down and eat" The door swung wide open to two children interrupting the boy's sentence. One squirrel girl lying on the bed and a boy sitting cross-legged on the ground each in a brown and gray onesie respectively.

"O-okay mom." Yohan meekly spoke, he was glad he stopped a second before disaster. His mother left the room. He looked back at a smug childhood friend. Annoyed he pounced on Stella and tickled her. She struggled to get free, her bushy tail tried to help fend the aggressor off. Yohan wasn't the least bit deterred and continued tickling with his vision and face being covered by a bushy yet soft tail.

"I give, I give!" Stella laughed. Yohan huffed satisfied. "Sore loser." she said in a low voice. This was a common occurrence over the weekends, Stella was actually tomboyish in nature and would often try to compete with Yohan in things that were at least fair.

Yohan had planned to find ways in helping mould and shape chakra. He remembered some sort of factoid in an off conversation somewhere that gas and liquid were both classified as 'fluids', so he would try to apply the same exercise with water later. He had been practicing the training which Amber had given him with his shadow clones, it had helped him a great lot, all of his [Earth Release] jutsus became more sturdier and his [Wood Release] jutsus have as well. He had casted his [Wood Release: Wooden serpent jutsu] and had seen that it had shrunk a bit, however it was more detailed, getting close to life-like.

Yohan sat and ate his dinner rowdily with Stella. They helped washup and got ready for bed. Yohan was brushing his teeth while he felt he became farsighted for some reason. His gaze no longer held on the reflection of his teeth but the pair of glowing eyes. It was the same shade of light red as his normal eyes compared to the deep crimson of his sharingan and it didn't have any tomoes at all, he heard footsteps and turned to the direction it came. It was from the corner of the washroom and a perculiar thing happened. He could see his dad through the walls, walking down the stairs. He looked back to the mirror and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, relaxing and it was gone. He wondered what it was that made him able to do so. He decided to experiment tomorrow, since he will now succ.u.mb to the fatigue of his shadow clones effectively knocking him out once more, leaving a few people to wake up a sleeping log.
