SHINOBI In A World Of Magic

Chapter 13 - 13: SUSANOO!

While Amber was still at home, Stella and Yohan asked her on the details about attending Advent. Amber talked about the course as she understood it.

The course was split into magic theory, magic history and practical. Practical took about half of their schedule. For 1st years to be eligible to move on to the next year they must be able to cast a low-tier spell; sort of like academy students in naruto that have to perform E-rank ninjutsu to graduate becoming genin. As 2nd year students they will have to expand their arsenal of low-tier spell cast it at a certain level and begin to incorporate it into their own combat style. As 3rd year students they would have to consolidate their combat style and master their low-tier spells. That was how far Amber had studied ahead. She had already trained her low-tier spell to a great degree and has already begun honing her combat skills and technique.

For 4th year students they needed to learn intermediate spells by the end of the year. 5th years, master and incorporate the intermediate spells just like the low-tier spells, but it would be much faster since they already have their combat style and would most likely learn complementary intermediate spells. For the final 6th year, one must create their own spell, with the wealth of knowledge and practical work, they most likely have already grasped the fundamentals of a spell and therefore should have all the tools necessary to create, or derive one which was accepted.

Standard course didn't go as in depth in magic theory and didn't have a 6th year therefore didn't need to create their own spells to graduate.

"Big sis can I see you cast spells?" Yohan asked with stars in his eyes. Stella was also standing beside him with a pleading expression.

"Sure, lets go to the backyard." Amber didn't hesitate. They went to the backyard and she chanted while holding her hand to the sky. "[Flare shot]" A ball of fire the size of a fist shot to the sky, before dissipating. She didn't put much mana into it but, Yohan and Stella were awed just the same. Yohan saw it with his sharingan and copied it, however he could see that it didn't contain much mana yet still had a great effect.

"Wow that's much more powerful than magic. What do you need to cast spells?" Stella asked.

"Well, you need to be able to transform and shape mana in such a way that it produces a greater result. While it is under mana manipulation just like magic, magic is concerned with the 'control' part. Spells take mana manipulation to a new level. With this you can compress, expand, shape and mould mana, chanting just facilitates the process of moulding said mana." Amber looked pleased with herself when explaining. Stella understood most of it.

However Yohan had an epiphany from hearing what spells were. In a way it was similar to ninjutsu, performing hand signs was the equivalence of chanting while 'shape transformation' and 'nature transformation' were just as she compactly described. He had realized he was neglecting those components in his jutsus leaving hollow versions of those jutsus.

"Are there any exercises that we can do to improve our mana transformation?" Yohan asked. Though he knew exercises for wind, he didn't know about other elements.

"Well, I do know two for earth, but not water." Amber had been trying to earth transformation to counter Cain. Just like in Naruto it would be several times easier to focus training in spells intended for their affinity, it wouldn't limit shinobi from learning other element's spells, Kakashi being a prime example; having lightning affinity but being able to use earth release, water release, etc. However it was extremely difficult, it was like trying to run against a river's rapid, thus not many decided not to, pinning it to be pointless. She took a rock and told Yohan what to do "Take this rock and make it crumble. Then for another exercise harden the rock in your hand." Yohan tried it and after a couple of tries and was able to crack it. Amber was surprised, but quickly recovered "That's my little brother, the genius." She said it as if it was expected. Yohan cheekily grinned. Stella was bouncing around teasing Amber by asking if she's got a boyfriend yet and such.

~ Few days later ~

Another day and Yohan is in the forest, he had went in deeper for more tougher opponents. Though he was a bit squeamish at the remains of his guinea pigs, it wasn't as bad as before. He zoomed around with his lightning chakra mode. He stopped near a blighted area, it reeked rotten flesh. Yohan covered his nose. He had hunted goblins, ogres, trolls and giant spiders before in the woods. However, today he encounters a new opponent.

"Undead?" Yohan saw from the distance a horde of zombies, mouths and guts fuming a visible green gas sinking down, creating a miasma upon the ground. He approached it and heard their eerie groaning and some clattering amongst them. He looked closer to see a few skeletons in between and behind them. This gave Yohan an idea.

'Hmm, haven't tried susanoo. though I have mangekyo sharingan, I haven't tried it yet, now's a good a time as any.' Yohan activated itachi's sharingan and visualized a giant skeleton. He felt power well up in himself and his chakra exploding and expanding, forming a rib-cage, skull then two arms. The susanoo towered above the treetops. He opened his eyes and saw he was cloaked in red chakra, he was giddy supressing the urge to yell out 'Susanoo'. He decided to move his arms around, he felt no pain whatsoever since his sharingan was at kekkei mora level. The giant skeleton followed suit. He decided to squash a few undead to test it out. Giant hand prints, dregs of rotten flesh splattered the blighted grounds.

"I guess that's enough for today." Yohan murmured. He was a bit tired from using Susanoo and decided to turn in for the day.

"Look that must be the creature! we need to drive it off and report!" From behind Yohan, there was someone shouting. A group of mages appeared and fired some intermediate spells and a few advanced ones from behind. Yohan didn't want to be discovered and decided to stay with his back turned, letting the rib-cage hide his childish figure and quickly switch to obito's sharingan and teleport out. He closed his eyes and quickly switched. As the giant skeleton slowly faded, he was long gone.

"Did we kill it? What was that? Could it be a demon?" The mages had felt the large amount of mana oozing from the skeleton and throughout the confrontation were barely able to hold themselves from pissing themselves.

"We must report this. That thing wasn't affected at all by our spells, this new enemy is an extremely formidable one. If it appears anywhere near the city, who knows how much havoc it could wreak." They left the area reporting to their superiors. They were all apprehensive of the description and Archus decided to relay the message for all guilds to lookout for anything that may resemble what had happened, and the description of the susanoo given by those mages.
