The highway consisted of ten lanes.

Five lanes each for two directions, north and south. The lanes that they were cruising through is heading north.

In the front, Melissa and Zack shot stray zombies that wandered around the highway.

{Are we there yet?!} (Chai). He was in charge of finishing off the zombies that were chasing them from behind.

Like answering an impatient boy on a Legoland trip, Melissa answered Chai over the radio: {Not far away now! We're just nine kilometers short from the base.}

"Man, I'm getting bored picking on lost zombies. I wanna fight a horde!" (Chai)

Unconsciously saying that phrase, Annie who was driving the Evoque was staring at him wide-eyed.

"You're actually THAT confident? Unbelievable!" (Annie)

"What's there not to be confident about? Those things are stupid. They only know how to attack without thinking." (Chai)

"B-but…isn't it scary? I mean, what if you got bitten? Then you'll become an undead!" (Annie)

On the day the apocalypse happened, she and her mother just happened to be exiting a shopping mall.

They drove their rented car to the Municipal Shelter out of panic, following the mass of cars.

She saw people that got left behind and bitten by the zombies. The bitten person either turned into zombies, or eaten clean by a swarm of zombies.

With hopes of getting protected by the firearm-wielding men who dressed in military-style uniforms, she and her mother fled into the walls of the Municipal building.

That was when the nightmare happened. Their belongings were confiscated by what seemed to be anti-foreigner radicals, and they were almost r.a.p.ed.

If it weren't for those three saving them, they might not see tomorrow's daylight.

Chai glanced at her model-like Caucasian face. "Cool of you to be concerned about me, but you really gotta worry more 'bout yourself."

She rolled her eyes. This eye-candy of a man has a sharp tongue, but his words were always about the truth.

"Didn't Zack said that there might not be no cure? If this was purely an infection resulting from a human-made or naturally occurring virus strain, that's fine. But didn't all these happened after that weird announcement rang in our heads?" (Chai)

That was enough proof to stipulate that the infection might be related to some 'higher being'.

Talking into their heads and giving them powers. Who else could've done this?

"It's quite simple, Annie. If somebody tries to kill you, would you let him?" (Chai)

She was silent. Deep in her heart, she knew that all forms of moral has collapsed.

Societal rules has been discarded away.

It is the period where strength equals survival. Without strength, you cannot protect yourself and your loved ones.

"No." (Annie)

With a meek voice, she answered.

"Before all this happened, me and Zack were just a bunch of nerds. We spent most of our times reading novels, reading comics and s*** like that." (Chai)

This pretty man who looks like a Korean Pop Idol is a nerd?

"We lucked out because we had imagined how the situation would be, if the world fell into a zombie apocalypse." (Chai)

Comic books, movies and novels provided them with some of the best knowledge and counter-measures for various situations.

"Zack once said 'It's never a waste of time watching movies or reading novels if you learn from it.' I guess it's true." (Chai)

People's denial and lack of preparedness contributed to the successful zombie epidemic.

"The worst part was when people knew what the pressing issue was, but they didn't react quickly." (Chai)

One of the factor contributing to the zombie pandemic's success was information denial.

"I hope the information that Zack posted on the internet would get people's attention. It'll really help if everybody else becomes powerful." (Chai)

Stories and reports of rabies and other false diseases was broadcasted to keep the people under control.

Worst part was, even the media 'claimed' that they have found a cure, a vaccine for it.

"Aren't you worried that the other people with powers would harm us?" (Annie)

"Why should I? Wouldn't it be fun to fight strong people?" (Chai)

Annie helplessly sighed at his excited face.

'I really don't know what's going on in that pretty little head of his.' (Annie)

***

As one of the heir to Malaysia's biggest conglomerate, he was born with a diamond spoon in his mouth.

The world of elite businessmen was a cruel one.

Although the Chai Family has Michael, Chai's elder brother as the first-born son as their first-in-line, the birth of a second male heir made the family's rivals became worried.

Chai is 8-years younger than his only brother.

By the time Michael was sent abroad for his studies, Chai was still in his elementary school.

Innately, he is a person that would take matters in his own hands. He believed in doing his best in solving his own problems.

Retaliating against the people who sought to bully him, he gets into a lot of fights.

With no friends, he felt that fighting other people was a fun hobby.

Not only that he excelled in beating other people up, his face-smacking mouth has also become part of his identity.

Over the years, the only people close to him were his parents and his elder brother. Everybody else that could not stand his honest 'opinions', distanced themselves away.

Up until college, he finally met Zack where they bonded over novels and comics.

His 'no-holds-barred' attitude is something that Zack appreciate the most, where Chai's bluntness is like fresh breath of air from the two-faced people surrounding him.

She shrugged her shoulders and just smiled to him.

"S-so…if I could fight those zombies, what would you think of me?" (Annie)

"Then I'll respect you." (Chai)

He then gave a thumbs up to her.

'Respect, huh…not the response I expected, but I'll take it!' (Annie)

Smiling by herself, the group continued cruising down the highway.

{Team, three kilometers to destination. There're commercial buildings ahead, let's re-group in front!} (Melissa)

The Evoque and H2 stopped on highway's roadside emergency lane.

All five of them stepped out of the vehicles and stretched their bodies.

"I never knew driving could be so strenuous." (Joy)

"Yeah mom! And I thought it'll be a breeze just driving along!" (Annie)

The stress of navigating random cars and avoiding corpses along the way took quite a bit of their energy.

"We'll take ten minutes to rest and eat. I'll explain the plan again." (Melissa)

Stage Three of Melissa's Plan: Board any aircrafts in the Air Force Base.

"There are two reasons why we have stop a few kilometers before reaching: First, to make sure there aren't any zombie hordes. Second, to make sure the army base is still, well, there." (Melissa)

The map in her iPad Pro 12.9-inch showed their current location.

Situated in the state of Selangor, the base was located in an area called 'Bandar Pinggiran' which translates to 'Outskirt Town' in the Malaysian language.

As land were abundant and it is near the capital, the government decided to build an Air Force complex which neighbors an old airport.

"So…there was supposed to be an airport beside the base, right Mel? How come I don't see any airplanes flying out?" (Chai)

He gazed at the sky in front of them. Chai had a point, you could spot an aircraft from kilometers away.

"Exactly. We're going to confirm if there are any aircrafts left in the hangars. The planes might've ran out of fuel, or they just don't have any capable pilots for all we know." (Zack)

Zack also informed them that he did not hear any gunshots. With his enhanced hearing, he could literally hear them from five kilometers away.

"I hope they're fighting them with melee weapons." (Melissa)

The team really hoped that the army base isn't infested with zombies. That'll make their drive here all useless.

{Team Ares, good luck. Inform us once of the situation every five minutes.} (Melissa)

{Copy that, Wildfox.} (Zack)

Dashing through the highway, Zack ended their radio communication.

This time, Chai and Zack would be responsible to assess the situation 800-meters ahead of them.

Since Ares is an ancient Greek God, equivalent to the Roman God Mars where men 'supposedly' came from, the brothers chose that name.

Of course, the other group standing-by in their vehicles was the cliché 'Team Venus'.

Adding up to the fun (and also concealing their identities), they each chose a code name.

Arriving at the commercial area, they reported back to Melissa.

{Team Venus, this is Clark. I'm in position.} (Zack)

{Team Venus, this is Son. I'm here!} (Chai)

Zack went ahead first to scout the first one kilometer radius.

In the Map, the area was a two-kilometer square area housing about 20 office-factory hybrid buildings.

It was both a processing and administration shop lots, where they package items from the main factories further up north and manage their shipping and deliveries.

Connected by several highways and close by an airport, it was the perfect industrial area.

{Son, come in. Fifteen walkers in total in the first kilometer. Twelve on the left and three on the right.} (Zack)

The arrangement was for them to obliterate the zombies numbering more than six together, and only one person would handle anything below six.

Chai and Zack swiftly approached a white three-story building. It was surrounded by short shrubs and trees.

The twelve zombies were standing idly and wandering without direction. They were 50 meters away.

Chai whispered to Zack before killing the zombies. "Hey man, wanna see who kills the most walkers?" (Chai)

"You're on!" (Zack)

Zack took out an iPod and chose a song. He threw it a few centimeters above the zombies.

Tap!

Zack tapped on his Apple Watch and 'Immigrant Song' by Led Zeppelin went off from the iPod!

Without wasting time, the brothers shot the zombies with their crossbows.

Swuft! Zuup!

Bodies plopped down one by one like flies getting zapped. Each one of them has an arrow lodged in their brains.

{Team Venus, this is Team Ares. You are clear to go.} (Zack)

{Received that, Team Ares. Thank you for your hard work.} (Melissa)

{Thank me more. I killed eight out of fifteen, haha!} (Chai)

The girls just laughed at Chai's remark.

In the car, Joy asked Melissa about Zack and Chai. "Does these two boys always compete with each other?"

"Beats me. I only knew them just a little over 2 days. But…they're nice people. They remind me a lot of my elder brothers." (Melissa)

Being the youngest of six siblings, she is the most cherished person in her family.

Her five older brothers work in various governmental agencies. They followed their father's footsteps in serving the country.

As the 'princess' in her family's eyes, she would always find herself getting away from most troubles.

But coming from a military family, leadership and discipline was thoroughly beaten into her.

Joy saw Chai waving his hands a few meters away. They stopped at where he was.

She lowered her window. "The area's clear and all, so there's still zombies a few hundred meters around. Zack said he's gonna check it out and come back in a few minutes." (Chai)

Melissa and Joy nodded.

Chai walked to the Evoque behind the Hummer. He signaled to Annie to open up the rear trunk.

Ever since he acquired [Saiyan Physique], his appetite rose tremendously. He ate twice the food he usually consumes.

Zack returned and informed Melissa what he found.

Apparently, zombies detect by sight, sound and smell. Zack went a few meters out of the way to experiment on it.

The undead's sensing abilities was exactly like the human host they've infected.

Excluding zombies who were previously disabled, a normal person could see as about 6 meters ahead clearly with 20/20 vision.

Humans has a viewing angle of 114°.

However, if the zombie was deprived of sight such as target was out of their field of view, target hid in their blind spot, target was more than six meters away or target was in a dark place, they would remain idle.

"S-So, if we disguise ourselves, would they still able to identify?" (Joy)

"I haven't tested it to confirm it yet, but I'm pretty confident that if the zombies could even distinguish a disguise, they would have some sort of intelligence…which I definitely can confirm they do not have." (Zack)

"He does have a point there. These things are reckless. Any intelligent beings would know that every action comes with consequences. Them attacking people wildly without concerns or fear…definitely confirms that they're just mindless flesh-eating creatures." (Melissa)

It would be plausible if a person stood still to avoid the zombie's detection. But that's just risky to test.

Zack continued on about their hearing and olfactory senses. As expected, it worked the same a human, they could hear around 4 meters and could detect smell about 1 meter.

"I haven't had much time to test further. It's incomplete, but it'll get the job done." (Zack)

"Thank you, Zack. You're amazing! I really wish I could have similar detection abilities like yours!" (Melissa). She helplessly threw her hands up.

After taking a few minutes break, they advanced towards the Air Force base.
