The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 14 - 14: The Rebels' Council

Morgana led Violet to a very large room with twelve chairs placed as a circle.

The seats were already filled with people and Violet felt very intimidated.

At one of the chairs was Jack, looking at her with enigmatic eyes. Violet felt a cold in her spine.

Morgana took the only empty seat and left Violet alone in the middle of the circle, like a criminal being judged. Which she was.

Jack got up on his feet and started talking.

“We all know why we are gathered here, so I’ll skip the introductions. This woman was caught with a dagger from the Diamond Pack on her and everything indicates that she came here to kill me.”.

That made sense to Violet now. So he discovered that she was from the Diamond Pack because of her dagger. She knew the object was in his possession, but how could he tell that it was from the Diamond Pack? What gave it away?

But she didn’t have much time to think about that because her future was being decided in front of her eyes. She had to pay attention to every single detail that could save her life.

“I had a private talk with her and we agreed that she would live if - and only if - she gave up on that mission of hers and stayed here under our vigilance, working for us.”

“Doing what exactly, Jack?” Morgana spoke up for the first time ever since she picked Violet on her bedroom.

Jack looked at her, expressionless, but very intimidating. He really looked like an Alpha. His presence was something very hard to ignore.

Violet clenched her hands so hard that her nails were hurting her palms.

“I’m sure we can come up with something. We have a lot of servants, so she would be just another one.”

“One that wants to kill you.” Morgana added with a sarcastic expression on her face.

“I’m sure she realized that if she tried to continue with that same goal with everyone watching her every move, she would be dead as soon as she finished the mission.”

Violet nodded in affirmation, trying to show the members of the council that she indeed knew about that.

“She also doesn’t have the dagger able to kill me anymore, and her inner wolf is asleep at the moment. And we all know it would take more than a simple kitchen knife to kill me.”

An older man with a white beard agreed with his head, clearly just wanting to have a good image in front of Jack.

But Morgana was inflexible. Her expression stayed the same.

“I don’t think we should trust her with so many benefits. I mean, she doesn’t even want to say anything about her or why she wanted to kill you in the first place. Why should we do that for her?”

Violet swallowed hard.

It did make sense.

Why should they be so easy on her if she barely said anything to prove that they could trust her?

“I was just assigned for this mission, but I’m not a killer. And as Jack said, I wouldn’t be able to kill him without the dagger anyway.”

Morgana looked at her very annoyed.

But it was Jack’s look that made Violet look away. She couldn’t stand his eyes on her, analyzing every single word she said.

He looked very curious about what she had to say, since she hadn’t said a lot, especially when he asked her.

“Since you made it clear that I couldn’t leave this place, I’ll just have to accept that if I don’t want to die. I’ll have to accept anything you ask me actually.”

Morgana raised her brows.

“Yeah, right. You’re that easy to convince? So why would they chose someone so weak like you to be in charge of a mission of this sort?”

She was definitely very clever, Violet realized.

“That’s what I ask myself everyday. I don’t know why they did it, but I can guarantee you that I’m not that eager to accomplish this mission and risk my life anymore.” Violet explained and instinctively looked at Jack.

He looked very puzzled with her words.

A woman seated at Jack’s right side took the chance to speak.

“Are you willing to change sides then? Is that what you’re saying?” she had her eyes on Violet, and it was almost like she could read Violet’s mind.

Violet took a while to answer that question.

Was she willing to do that or would she just pretend? Because in her mind, she was just trying to get more time before she had a chance to escape.

But in her heart, she felt like she could live a happy life there with them. With Jack.

Violet hated the way she was feeling with that internal conflict eating her alive from inside.

How could she make a decision like that under so much pressure? She had to fight for her life, no matter what, but at the same time, it was really confusing to feel so many mixed emotions.

But for the moment, she would just go with the flow. It would make her life a bit easier until a new opportunity came up.

“I am.” she answered and each person had a different reaction.

Some looked at her already convinced, others with a questionable expression; Morgana rolled her eyes and Jack just kept looking at her.

Violet couldn’t get what was going on inside his mind.

“I’ll prove that I can be a good servant until I can get all of your trust. Jack said that I would always have someone watching me, so I wouldn’t have a chance to do anything.”

“You can bet you wouldn’t.” Morgana said with a bitter expression.

“So, everyone in favor of Violet staying? I can make her my personal servant, so I can also keep an eye on her.”

“You're joking, right?” Morgana looked at him incredulous. “How could you possible want her near you, if the reason why we’re having this council meeting is because she wanted to kill you?!”

“I think you are underestimating me, Morgana. I can protect myself. Especially from someone that can’t shift and doesn’t have any tools to do it.” Jack said with a smile.

Violet felt a little offended by that, but didn’t show.

It felt really weird and upsetting when Jack talked about her like she was just a weak and fragile nobody.

“So… Anyone against it?” Jack repeated the question, looking at every member from the council.

Each one of them nodded in denial, agreeing with Jack’s proposal.

Their Alpha looked at Morgana at last, waiting for her vote. Apparently, the majority rule didn’t apply. It had to be everyone’s decision.

And Morgana was clearly not a fan of Violet.

Would she agree?

Morgana sighed and rolled her eyes before she spoke.

“Well, my opinion doesn’t seem to count that much so, if that’s what you want, fine.”

Jack looked pleased and satisfied with himself.

“Great then.” he got up on his feet and waited until the room was emptied.

Morgana passed by Violet and whispered in her ears.

“Don’t try to play the smart one with me. You’ll regret ever coming here if you try to do anything with any of us, especially Jack. I’ll be sure to keep both my eyes on you.”

And she left, leaving Violet alone with Jack and with a storm of thoughts inside her mind.
