The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 16 - 16: Bringing Back The Wolf

Violet stayed inside Jack’s office for the whole morning.

It turned out that the meeting wasn’t very important. He just talked with a few members from the pack about some harvest that went wrong and they lost a lot of food.

It impressed Violet how Jack was good with his words and was able to comfort the members from his pack.

He was actually a very nice leader.

Violet couldn’t take her eyes off him for the whole meeting, trying to pretend she wasn’t interested at all every time their glances crossed.

When she was going to the kitchen to return the tray of his lunch, Violet bumped into someone on the hallway, dropping all the silverware and making a huge mess.

“I'm so sorry!” Violet kept repeating as she squatted down to catch everything and clean the carpet. “I didn’t see you coming, it was my fault..”

“I should know something like that would happen because of someone like you.” the person’s voice came from above Violet’s head, as she was still on the floor cleaning up everything.

That sentence made Violet look up, realizing that she wasn’t expecting that someone would say that to her.

She was getting used to being welcomed and treated nicely by everyone in the mansion.

Who was talking to her like that?

Looking up she saw a young girl, probably younger than her, very beautiful, but clearly unbearable and spoiled.

She had her arms crossed with a very imposing posture, looking down on Violet.

“Someone like me?” Violet repeated, still incredulous.

“Yeah, you know, someone stupid and deceived like you.”

Violet clenched her eyes.

“Why am I deceived and stupid, may I ask?”

The girl sneered.

“Come on. You can’t be that dumb, right? You must think that Jack let you live only because you are his mate. But don’t be deceived that easily. This has nothing to do with it.”

“Really?” Violet got on her feet to stare into the girl’s eyes.

She could feel her blood starting to boil with anger and her heart was pounding aggressively inside her chest.

Deep down, if she concentrated very hard, Violet could hear her inner wolf roaring with fury.

That almost made Violet excited. For the first time after she was caught, she could feel the presence of her wolf.

Maybe the drug wasn’t making that much effect anymore.

“Honestly, I shouldn’t even talk to you. You’re not worth it! I just wanted to warn you to stay away from Jack.”

Violet frowned.

“What do you mean?” she clenched her fists, feeling a sudden desire to punch that girl's face.

The roaring inside her body was getting louder.

The young girl took a few steps forward, facing Violet very closely, with her nose almost touching Violet’s.

“Jack is mine. I don’t care about this mate bullshit. If I were you, I’d stay the hell away from him, if you don’t want to bring any more problems to your life.”

Violet’s muscles were trembling too much now and she could feel her powers coming back to the surface.

It was like the first time she lost control.

Everyone on the Diamond Pack was very startled, especially her.

That girl was teasing Violet way beyond what was considered safe. Violet couldn’t control herself now.

The drugs they injected on her may had confused her organism somehow, and since the inner wolf was asleep for too long, the side effect could be catastrophic.

She had to get away from there.

“You should tell him that, not me. I can’t control him. It’s not my fault if he rather be with someone like me. Maybe the problem is actually you.” Violet said with a mocking smile.

But that made the girl go insane.

She pushed Violet, making her fall on the floor.

Something from the tray on the floor hurt her hand, maybe a knife, and that was the last straw for Violet.

There was no one around either. And she could feel it.

Her inner wolf.

She was going to shift. And she wouldn’t be able to control it.

“Get away from me!” she said in a low voice, trying to focus.

“Not happening.” the girl pushed her back as she tried to get up.

But suddenly Violet was on her feet again.

But they weren’t feet anymore. It was her four furry paws.

Violet heard her voice came as a roar instead of words. She wanted to warn the girl to run, to stay away from her.

Violet’s eyes scanned the hallway, hoping that someone would come to her rescue.

The girl in front of her also changed to her wolf form and was now preparing to attack Violet.

Violet roared loudly again, trying to tell the girl to stay away, but she clearly understood that as a threat.

When the wolf made a move on her, trying to bite Violet’s neck, Violet tossed her away with an unnecessary strength.

The girl fell on the floor, bumping on the wall.

Violet was very much aware of the frightened eyes of the wolf in front of her.

She started to panic as soon as she realized what she had done. But she was only trying to protect herself.

Violet was never able to control the strength she had, it was like a very strong energy started to burn inside her guts.

The wolf was still staring at her, apparently considering if it was worth to strike back.

Violet’s eyes went from side to side, trying to figure out a way to get out of there. If someone saw that she had attacked a member of the Rebels, she was as good as dead.

Jack would never give her a second chance.

When Violet spotted an open window at the end of the hallway, her mind started to think about all the possibilities she could face if she tried to jump.

Someone could catch her, and she would be dead.

She could succeed in getting out of the mansion, but they could go after her on the Diamond Pack. If she was at least able to get there before getting caught.

Her head was hurting like if someone was stabbing her brain with a hundred knives. What would she do?

Suddenly, a voice came from behind her, and Violet turned aggressively, preparing for whoever came to judge or attack her.

But it was Lucinda.

That gave a sense of calmness to Violet’s body and she could feel her muscles relax.

Or would she be against Violet?

If Lucinda was scared, she didn’t show. But Violet stood in a defensive position. She wanted to trust Lucinda so bad, but it was hard to tell exactly what the woman was thinking.

Violet took a few steps back, as Lucinda came forward, in her direction.

“Violet, it’s me. Lucinda.” the woman said cautiously, with both hands in front of her, trying to calm Violet. “I won’t do anything to you. Just shift back, please.”

Violet almost cried with relief.

“Just breath. Everything will be fine.” Lucinda continued, getting closer.

Every little bone on Violet’s body warned her to stay aware, to pay attention.

But her heart was sending signs that she should trust that woman. That everything was going to be okay if she did.

Still very tense, Violet did as Lucinda said, closing her eyes, doing whatever she could to go back to her human form. She didn’t want to attack Lucinda.

She couldn’t.

She breathed in and out, trying not to think about the girl lying on the other side of the hallway. She could think about the consequences of that later.

As her heart started to beat in a more peaceful compass, Violet could feel her inner wolf relaxing and giving in, making possible for her to shift back.

Lucinda sighed as she saw Violet’s human form back in front of her again.

“Thank God. Come on, let’s get out of here.” she said, pulling Violet through her arm.

“But what about her? I didn’t mean to…” she tried to explain. She had to.

Even though she was pretty sure no one would believe her.

“Come on! She will be fine. Someone will take her to the ward.”

Lucinda took Violet to her room, and as soon as Violet crossed the door, her tears started to fall down her cheeks immediately.

“What did I do? Now I’ll definitely be killed. No one will believe that I didn’t want to hurt her.” she said as she walked from side to side on her bedroom, messing her hair up.

Lucinda offered her a glass of water and put her sat down on the bed.

“Violet, look at me.”

Violet took a deep breath and did as she was told.

Lucinda was in front of her, with the most serious but comforting look on her eyes.

“I saw everything that happened. Kate is not someone very trustable. She is a snake to be honest. I’ll advocate in your favor with Jack.”

“No, no! You can’t tell him.” Violet snapped. “He will kill me.”

“I'm sorry, dear. But there’s no way he won’t know about this. But don’t worry…” Lucinda added as she saw Violet’s scared face.

“Now listen to me.” Lucinda continued. “I’ll talk to Jack about it. I’ll tell him that she pushed you, so you were just defending yourself. Just try to act normally until then, and try not to lose control.”

“I can’t really help it…” Violet said in a low voice, not able to explain exactly what she meant.

“Yeah, well, you’ll have to try harder, ok? Now I’m gonna find him, so I can avoid Kate’s poison to spread through the pack. You stay here and don’t open the door to anyone.”

Lucinda left, leaving Violet alone.

Long minutes passed as she tried to recompose herself, thinking about the possible consequences that could happen.

A loud knock on the door took her out of her thoughts.

“Violet, open the door. It’s me!” Jack’s voice came from the other side and he didn’t sound very happy.
