The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 43 - 43: Bitter Truths

She didn’t answer.

She didn’t know what to say. She was pretty convinced that she had escaped unnoticed.

How did Lance find her?

“What are you doing here?” she asked trying to get more time.

“I should be the one asking you this, don’t you think?” he asked taking a few more steps forward. “What’s inside your bag?” he pointed at her arms.

She automatically clenched it against her chest.

“Nothing.”.

Lance smiled.

“Come on, Violet. I know you, and you are not the best liar, you know that.”

She gulped.

“Lance, please, just trust me on this one, okay? I promise you I know what I’m doing.” she begged looking inside his eyes.

After all, they had a brother and sister connection. They always had. And even though his feelings towards her were something different, she knew he cared about her.

“What do you mean? What is going on, Violet?” he frowned. “Arden didn’t mention you having to do anything else regarding that mission, so why are you here?”

“Arden doesn’t know I’m here. That’s why I’m asking you to trust me. He can’t know.”

That seemed to alarm Lance.

“He doesn’t know you’re here? Violet, what the f*ck do you think you’re doing? You know no one can’t come out of these walls without his permission.” he stated firmly with his guard voice.

“I know! And don’t you think that’s stupid? Have you never asked yourself about these stupid rules? Why can’t we see the outside world?” Violet exploded at him.

She was tired of being prevented from living her life as she wanted.

All those rules she had to obey, if they only made sense, if they at least existed for their good… But no, they weren’t made for that.

They only existed because Arden wanted to control everyone. Especially her and her powers.

Lance was looking at her really confused.

“You never questioned that, Violet. Why now? Did those jerks under Jack’s command make up your mind against us?”

Violet didn’t want to say, but it was sort of that. But she wasn’t against them, she was only against Arden.

Especially now that she had discovered all those dirty secrets from his past.

“Lance… I discovered things about our past. Arden lied to us all this time.”

“What do you mean?”

The guard was still staring at the both of them, looking even more confused than Lance.

Violet didn’t want to say what she had to say before him, but she had no choice.

It was that or she would be back inside the palace, having to face her adoptive father.

That couldn’t be an option.

“Arden killed our parents, Lance. Did you know that?”

Violet saw Lance’s eye widen in shock.

She waited for him to say something back, but nothing came out of his mouth for a few seconds.

And when he finally talked, his voice came out really low and weak.

“What do you mean? What sort of joke is that, Violet? Do you think you need to make up such an excuse to escape from home?”

“I'm not making anything up. I also didn’t want to believe, but I have proof now. We can take him down, Lance.” she answered anxiously.

He seemed to be having an internal conflict.

Violet had to convince him no matter what.

She didn’t turn to look at the guard to see his expression, but she couldn’t sense his presence anymore.

“He’s not who we think he is, Lance. He lied to us, he made us believe that he adopted us simply because he had a good heart. But that was a lie. He killed our parents to conquer territories!” she yelled those words in disgust, because she still couldn’t believe they were coming out of her mouth.

Lance continued to look at her examining her moves. She could tell that he didn’t know what to do or what to believe.

“I know you don’t want to believe me, Lance, but please let me go. I’ll prove to you and to our whole pack that what I’m saying is true.”

He looked really sad when he answered her.

“You know I can’t do that, Violet. I made an oath. I can’t let you slander our Alpha.” he said softly. “And what you’re saying is insane. No matter how hard you want to be free, you can’t come up with these stories. You can really hurt someone’s feelings.”

“Don't you think I’m hurt too? He also killed my parents, Lance! Aren’t you hearing me?” she shouted at him, angry that he didn’t want to believe her.

She wouldn’t take the papers out of the bag to show him. That would only show him that she had enough evidence to do whatever she wanted with Arden.

And since Lance wasn’t willing to believe her, she would have to take a harsh approach.

“Violet, please, go back to the palace. I don’t want to do anything to you.” Lance said taking two more steps towards her.

Her head gave her a sign that the was in danger. Her inner wolf suddenly got in alert.

She could feel the electric force inside of her getting prepared to be used.

Her whole body was in a defensive position.

If Lance tried to do anything to her, even though she would hate herself for that, she would counterattack.

Suddenly, Lance’s human form was replaced with his wolf self.

Violet had to think fast. She was much more powerful in her wolf form too, but if she shifted, she would have to leave her backpack unprotected.

Since he was only one man, she could handle him with her powers as a human.

But she didn’t want to kill him. She just needed to find a way to escape without him getting in her way.

She was too close to the gate anyway.

But there was also the other guard.

Violet turned to look at him, but at that moment, Lance made a movement forward, which scared Violet.

She instantly raised her free hand and pointed at Lance’s wolf, concentrating on levitating him.

She saw his paws coming out of the ground, as his body went up. His wolf eyes were looking at her with a surprising and scared expression.

She tossed Lance away and finally looked where the guard was a few minutes before. But he wasn’t there anymore.

He probably went back to the palace as she was talking to Lance.

Violet didn’t have much time to think about that because Lance got up on his paws again, and a lot of guards were coming towards them, with the man that was at the gate by their side.

Why did they send so many guards to stop her?

Violet was suddenly outnumbered.

Could she beat them alone with only her powers? Was she already powerful enough for that?
