The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 62 - 62: You're My Enemy Now

Violet was shaking compulsively with the letter on her hands.

And as she read through it, her eyes filled with tears and she started to cry.

Not of fear, but of sadness.

“My dear Violet,

I still can’t believe you had the courage to do what you did.

I must confess it took me a while to find out it was you, and once I did, I couldn’t believe it.

How could my own daughter do this to me?

But then it occurred to me that you had your reasons, right?

You found out about your parents, so it’s understandable..

However, you know me, I’m not a forgiving person, right?

And the fact that you joined the Rebels kind of pissed me off. You know, Jack Morde is not someone I’m fond of.

So you betrayed your whole family to be with him. Do you think that was a smart choice? Did he forgive you for trying to kill him that easily? Do you think he will be able to ever trust you?

Yeah, what you did could be seen as a way to prove yourself, but deep down you know that trust isn’t build like that, right?

And it can be broken as quick as a blink of an eye.

With that being said, since you are together now, that makes you my enemy.

I’m not around, but I have eyes and ears everywhere. So don’t ever think that he can protect you.

It kind of pains me to know that I’ll have to do this with you, someone I considered my daughter for a long time.

But you didn’t take that into consideration when you exposed me, so why should I do the same?

As soon as I have things worked out, since you ruined my plans, I’ll be back for you. And him. And his entire pack.

This is something personal now.

I had great plans, Violet. And no one will stop me from achieving them.

So enjoy your days of joy and love, because they will soon be over.

Sincerely,

Dad.”

Violet didn’t know how to identify what she was feeling after reading those words.

Arden not only threatened her, Jack and their pack, but also said that she was his enemy now.

He said he had ears and eyes everywhere… Did that mean he was keeping an eye on her?

He knew where to find her, and he knew the letter would be delivered to her.

Arden was someone that had spies infiltrated everywhere. But she knew who they were. They were the ones that gave the map of the mansion when she had the mission to kill Jack.

Did he have anyone else?

He probably did, Violet thought. Arden wouldn’t be stupid to show her all his spies.

That made Violet think that perhaps someone from the Rebels could be a spy, but who?

How could she possibly discover that?

Should she tell Jack about it?

He wasn’t going to let it go. He was going to do everything in his power to find out who it could be.

And Arden threatening everyone would only make things worse.

Violet would keep that from him for the time being.

Arden shouldn’t be able to kill her inside the mansion. And she was also able to protect herself now. She had powers.

They had to be useful for something, right?

But when she made the decision to keep that letter from Jack, he entered the room, and she didn’t even have a chance to get up from the bed and hide it.

“Vi, what do you want to eat for di…” he started to say as soon as he got inside, but stopped himself when his eyes ran from her face to her hand.

“Are you crying? What is that?” he pointed to the paper on her hand.

“No, I’m not. This is nothing. It’s just a picture of a dress that Lucinda saw at the store.” Violet said shrinking her shoulders, cursing herself for not being able to think of a better excuse.

She tried to fold it, but Jack was quicker.

“Nothing?” he asked with his brows raised, looking at her with a suspicious expression.

He snatched the letter from her hand, but she tried to take it back.

“Jack, this is mine. It’s private. Give me back.”

“Private?” he looked at her again. “Why would you keep things from me? Don’t we share everything?”

Violet gulped.

“Please, it’s no big deal.”

But he already had his eyes on the letter.

And Violet couldn’t read his expression.

She saw him clenching his jaw line, which was not a good sign.

“Jack…” she whispered, trying to explain herself before he got mad at her, which she was certain he would do.

He finished reading it and raised his head to stare at her, and the look of disappointment on his eyes shattered her heart.

“Were you really going to hide this from me?” he rose the letter and put in on the direction of her eyes.

Violet was still trembling and her legs were weak. She thought she could faint at any minute.

“Jack, I didn’t want to worry you. You already have too much on your head that I…”

“You didn’t want to worry me, Violet? How could you keep such a thing from me? We are in this shit together!” he raised his voice, and she cringed.

“I was going to show you, but not now.” she explained, already crying again.

“Really? Then when? When the bastard was already inside my house killing you? Or me? Or both?”

He was infuriated. With reason, Violet thought.

She would also be mad at him if he kept such a thing from her.

But she wasn’t thinking clearly. The letter had destabilized her. She didn’t know what to think or feel.

“No, I just didn’t know what to think. I’m lost, okay?!” she yelled back at him. “There are a lot of things happening in my life and my mind right now. I didn’t want to trouble you with this. This is my problem!”

Jack looked at her in disbelief.

“Your problem?”

He sneered, folding back the letter and tossing it on her feet.

“Great! I thought we trusted each other and shared things, but apparently I was wrong.”

“Jack, it’s not what I meant…”

“You can do whatever you want, but while you’re still in my house, don’t think that I’ll wait for you to be killed if I can do something about it.” he concluded and left the room, before Violet was able to reply.

And then she collapsed on the bed, crying her eyes out until she fell asleep.

She had never felt so poor in her life.

And now she had shoved away the only person that loved her.
