The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 63 - 63: The Other Side

Jack stormed out of Violet’s bedroom blind with rage and frustration.

How could she think about keeping something like that from him?

He didn’t care that Arden also threatened him, but just the fact that Violet was vulnerable enough to receive a letter like that while she was living in his house, made him extremely worried.

He should be able to protect her, especially from a man like Arden.

And that one sentence from the letter kept showing up in his mind every damn second.

"I’m not around, but I have eyes and ears everywhere.. So don’t ever think that he can protect you.”

What did that mean?

Did Arden have spies on the Rebels pack? Was that how he was able to deliver the letter to Violet without being caught or making anyone suspicious?

If that was the case, then Jack had to do something immediately. He couldn’t allow his pack to have someone infiltrated, someone that could cause harm to anyone, especially to Violet.

While going towards his office, he met someone and asked the man to bring Morgana to see him. Maybe she could help him discover who it could be.

Slamming the door behind him, Jack went straight to the bar at the corner of his office and poured himself a glass of whisky.

His head was hurting, the day had been awful, and now it had ended in an even worse way.

It was really hard to know that Violet didn’t trust him enough to share everything with him.

Why would she want to hide that letter from him, if all he did the entire time was to be by her side, comforting her and helping her to get over all the shit her family did?

He was doing the best he could not to take everything seriously because he knew she was going through a lot recently.

It was hard to imagine being on her shoes, having discovered that your adoptive father killed your parents and that you entire family is against you.

He understood, he really did.

But at the same time, it was even harder to let everything pass like he didn’t have feelings himself.

Jack had a hard time to finally start to trust her. He couldn’t delete from his mind that she wanted to kill him when they first met. That wasn’t something easy to forget.

But in the name of their love, and especially after Violet had done so much to prove herself, even though he had said it wasn’t necessary, he didn’t have any other option than to believe in her.

And it felt great.

All he wanted to do was be with her anyway. So the fact that he didn’t want to worry about her true intentions anymore was more than he could ask for.

But lately they were testing their relationship for real.

Lots of arguing, disagreements and lack of trust in each other.

Would that mean that they wouldn’t be able to face everything together? That their love wasn't strong enough?

He finished the content on his glass and poured more whisky on it, at the same time that a knock on the door took his mind out of those thoughts.

“Did you want to see me?” Morgana’s voice came into his ears.

He turned to look at the newcomer and sat on his table, pointing to the chair in front of him.

Morgana sat and looked at him, waiting for whatever he had to say to her.

“Yes, I did.” he replied taking another sip.

She raised her brows.

“Are you okay? It seems like you had been hit.”

“In some way I was. But I’ll be fine.”

“What happened?” she asked concerned.

It was incredible how Morgana knew him so well. They knew each other for a long time, and Morgana was always by his side, helping him with his problems.

She was like a sister to him in a way.

“Violet received a letter. From Arden.” he simply said.

“What?” she asked incredulous.

He nodded, still trying to make sense of what happened. It was still hard hard to believe.

“What did it say?” she continued. “Do you think she is… you know, changing sides again?”

“No, in fact, he threatened her. And me, and basically everyone in the pack. But that’s not what I’m concerned about.”

“Then what are you concerned about? Is worse than this?” Morgana wanted to know.

“He also said that he had eyes and ears everywhere. Which kind of made me think that perhaps he has someone inside.”

“Inside of the Rebels?”

It seemed like Morgana had heard the most preposterous thing ever. Like that was something impossible to happen.

He nodded again.

“Why do you think that? How did she receive this letter anyway?”

“I don’t know. I didn’t ask. I was too mad at her to bother about this.” he confessed.

Morgana raised her brows at him one more time.

“Mad at her? Why? What did she do?”

“She tried to hide the letter from me, and when I asked her about it, she lied saying that it was nothing.”

Morgana examined his face and gave him a little smile of empathy in return.

“And you’re mad because she didn’t share that with you. Is that it?”

Jack looked at her impatiently.

“Well, what do you think? You think you are sharing your life with someone, and you tell them everything, but find out that the other person is not doing the same. I’m not wrong to feel bad, am I?”

Morgana shook her head in denial.

“Of course not. But she’s going through a lot, you know that.”

“I do. And I’m trying really hard to take that into consideration.”

“Communication is the key to a great relationship. You already know that, you’re an Alpha after all. Maybe if you try to talk to her, and show how this is upsetting you…”

“Yeah, perhaps you’re right.”

Morgana kept looking at him, like she was waiting for him to get up and go after Violet immediately.

“What?” he asked a little mad. “I'm not going to talk to her now. I’m too angry at the moment. This wouldn’t do us any good.” he finished the whisky again and got up to fill his glass again.

“So, the goal is to get drunk tonight, huh?” she asked getting up as well.

“Yup.” he murmured, drinking again.

“Well, I’ll be going then. Let me know if you discover something new. I’ll try to investigate who could be our potential spy.”

“Thank you, Morgana.” he raised his glass as a sign of a toast, and she left, leaving Jack behind to stay drunk by himself.
