The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 77 - 77: Just A Phone Call

Violet forgot all about her conversation with Jack as soon as she heard what Dave said.

She was aware that Gwen could be planning to build the wall again, and that Arden could also be gathering an army to try to come back.

But now it felt more real somehow.

“What evidence do they have to be spreading this?” Jack asked. “Did something different happen?”

Dave shrugged his shoulders.

“I'm not really sure. They said that people from inside the palace are saying that Gwen is talking with some men about how she could build the wall again without causing too much pressure from the people.”

“Well, that I’d also like to know.” Jack ragged..

“She seemed to be very determined to do it, but the council is trying to persuade her to change her mind. They could face another riot, especially from their own people.”

“Why would she want to build that again?” Violet asked. “I didn’t think she liked that wall at all. Now she wants to raise it again?”

“Maybe she is working for Arden from inside. We can’t know for sure.” Jack answered as he rubbed his forehead.

He looked tired.

“Should we prepare to do something, Jack?” Dave asked.

But Jack shook his head in denial.

“No, there’s nothing we can do for now. We don’t know what they are planning, and we could cause a war if we invaded their territory to prevent them from building the wall again.” Jack explained. “We would need to have lots of people to fight against them. I’m not sure everyone will be on board with that again.”

“Don't you think the resistance will be willing to do it again?” Violet asked still in disbelief.

“I do. I’ll have to talk to some of the Alphas to know if they are planning on doing something. For now, we wait.” Jack concluded, sitting on his chair.

Dave excused himself from the room, and Violet was left alone with Jack again.

But she didn’t feel like returning to their talk.

Actually, she felt like talking to someone else.

“I will call Gwen.” she stated.

Jack looked at her with intrigued eyes.

“Why?”

“I want to know if she’s really planning on going forward with this plan. If I can try for the last time to persuade her to give up on this stupid idea, I’ll do it.” Violet explained.

She had to try. It was true that Gwen asked her to stay away and that she didn’t want to see Violet ever again.

But Violet wouldn’t feel at ease with herself if she didn’t try.

Ignoring Jack’s pitying glance, Violet went straight to his phone and didn’t even ask for his permission to use it.

She simply grabbed the device and dialed the number she had memorized for a reason she didn’t know.

She never had to called the palace in her life before, but she decided to memorize the number ever since she decided to escape.

But she never felt the need to use, basically because their lives became a mess, and she didn’t have anyone to call.

But now, since she couldn’t stop by the palace to talk to Gwen, because she was basically banned from there, the only option was to call Gwen and hope that the girl answered.

She dialed the number, still ignoring Jack’s eyes scanning her, and as soon as someone answered, she asked to be transferred to Gwen’s line.

Her heart was pounding strongly against her chest, and she was wondering what exactly she would say to Gwen, and it was taking too long for the girl to answer the phone.

When Violet was about to give up, convincing herself that Gwen wouldn’t take her call, a female voice spoke on the other side.

“Violet?”

Violet gulped before answering.

“Hi, Gwen… I…”

“What do you want?” Gwen interrupted her.

Violet was caught off guard for a few seconds, but pulled herself together.

“I… I wanted to talk to you for a few minutes. Is that possible?”

Gwen stayed in silence for a while.

“Yes, what is it? I don’t have much time now.”

“It won’t take long, I promise. I just wanted to ask you if the rumors are true. Are you really planning on building that wall again?”

“I am.” Gwen answered without hesitating.

“Why?” Violet asked.

“Safety, Violet. We don’t need strangers walking around our land, putting our people in danger, especially when we don’t know their true intentions. It worked really well all these years, so I don’t see why not to continue.”

“Why can’t you try to make peace with the other packs so everyone can live in harmony? Why isolate the Diamond Pack?”

“Just because. I won’t forbid anyone from doing anything, I just want to protect my pack. That’s all. Look, I have to go, okay? I don’t really need to give you any explanation. You don’t belong to our pack since you decided to betray us, run away and sleep with the enemy.”

Violet almost choked with air.

“You know that’s not what happened, Gwen.” she whispered.

“Honestly, I don’t even care anymore. You’re dead to me, and I have more important things to be concerned about, Violet. So please, don’t call me again. Go live your life as you please and stop worrying about my pack.”

When Violet was about to answer, she heard a click on the line and the continuous noise that indicated that Gwen had hung up.

"Are you okay?” Jack asked, more concerned about her than with the whole wall thing.

He stood there, waiting for her to share with him whatever she felt like, but Violet didn’t want to say anything.

Not because she thought that Jack was going to rub on her face that he saw that happening, but because she didn’t know what to say.

Her last chance to convince Gwen to become who she had failed.

So now Violet saw herself with no hope regarding who once was considered her sister.

The only person she had from her past now was Lance.

And she would make sure to bring him to the right side, no matter what.
