The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 78 - 78: Midnight Encounter

Violet didn’t feel like explaining anything to Jack, so she simply said she was tired and would go to bed.

They didn’t finish their conversation, and she wasn’t feeling in the mood to do it after Gwen’s call.

Then she went to her room and tried to sleep, which was being a very hard thing to do lately.

She had nightmares, woke up in the middle of the night thinking that Arden could be near at any moment, and kept thinking about all the possibilities for her future.

It didn’t help the fact that her relationship with Jack was also shaken, so she couldn’t really find comfort in him.

All she had was Lucinda, who was always checking on her during her breaks, and Morgana, who always practiced some magic with Violet whenever they felt like it.

Violet was bored most of the time, and now she was also nervous to know when Lance would show up again.

He had said that he would tell her when they could meet again, and she was actually very excited for that moment..

She wanted to share with him her conversation with Gwen over the phone and also ask him what happened when he was ambushed.

Violet couldn’t ignore the fact that she was also worried about him, being alone in the middle of the woods, being chased and not having anyone with him.

A few days had passed since she received the letter from him.

Both her and Jack seemed to be avoiding each other since their unfinished conversation.

Of course she wanted to solve everything as soon as possible, but since the “Lance situation” was about to happen yet, she thought that it would only make things worse.

Also, Jack seemed to be busy for the last few days, and Lucinda told her that he was making contact with some other packs to discuss about the construction of the walls of the Diamond Pack.

One day, when she returned from a training session with Morgana in her office, Violet went to her room to take a shower and found an envelope on her pillow again.

But this time, it wasn’t a big letter, but a tiny note.

“Meet me outside at the back of the mansion at midnight. L.”

Violet turned the piece of paper on her hand a few times, trying to check if there was anything else written that she wasn’t seeing.

That was the note. Only one sentence.

It was a good thing that Lance hadn’t arranged for them to meet in the woods again, since they could be attacked once more.

Violet got cheerful again, feeling her heart nervous to finally see Lance.

But at the same time, she wondered if she should tell Jack about it.

Maybe it would be better to simply go and not tell him anything, since they could get into another fight because of it.

She had already told him about her intention to meet Lance again, so she wouldn’t be doing anything behind his back.

He simply wouldn’t know when and where she would meet the man.

But then an idea occurred to her.

She could bring Lucinda with her.

The woman was a guard and a very strong one. She also had the skills to sense if something was wrong and was much more prepared than Violet on those situations.

They would be inside their territory anyway, so Lance, if he had any intention, wouldn’t have a chance to do anything to her.

And she didn’t think that was his idea at all.

She was just considering the options.

Also, Jack wouldn’t complain later that she went to meet Lance alone.

Violet took a shower and got dressed quicker than usual, and went outside to look for Lucinda.

The woman wasn’t on duty anymore, so she figured she would be in her room.

Violet went to the part of the mansion where the staff dorms were. Lucinda shared her room with another guard, but she wasn’t around when Violet knocked on the door.

Lucinda showed up, and Violet thought it was funny how she always got surprised when she saw Lucinda without her uniform.

Her friend was a very beautiful woman, and she was now standing in front of Violet with her brown hair falling down her shoulders and her curious hazel eyes checking Violet.

“Hey, girl. What brings you to visit the plebs?” Lucinda joked.

Violet rolled her yes in return.

“Don't be an idiot!” she smiled. “I came to ask you a favor.”

Lucinda raised her brows.

“What kind of favor? One that would make me get fired by my boss for helping his girlfriend to do something stupid?”

Violet laughed.

“Something like that. But you won’t get fired, of course.”

“So… what is it?” Lucinda asked with curiosity.

“I'm going to meet Lance at midnight outside of the mansion. I wanted you to come with me, you know, just for precaution.”

“Are you insane? If Jack finds out that that man is outside, he’ll kill him.” Lucinda commented in panic.

“No, he won’t. He already knows I was planning to meet Lance again, but I need to see him before trying to convince Jack to bring him in.”

“Oh, my God. You really are insane.”

“Come on, I’ll tell you everything on the way. I just need your help.”

As they walked outside, Violet told Lucinda everything. Since her fight with Jack, the conversation they had and the intuition she had about Lance being honest about the whole situation.

Lucinda listened to everything without questioning or judging Violet, which she appreciated immensely.

Violet felt relieved and happy for finally sharing everything that was happening inside her mind during the last few months, and she didn’t know why she didn’t confide everything to Lucinda before.

And as they approached the back of the mansion where they were supposed to meet Lance, Lucinda stopped abruptly, staring at something.

Violet had to turn her head to look and then she saw Lance.

And he also seemed to be hypnotized looking at Lucinda.

It was like Violet wasn’t even there.

And then something occurred to her. And she couldn’t believe it.

Her mind should be playing trick on her for sure.

Were they each other’s mates?
