The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 24 - Planning

"What have you done?!" (Store Clerk)

"I kind of warned you though."

"My dear forge… You! Pay for this!"

"Hey you were the one to challenge me!"

"No I wasn't!"

"For all I know, I told you I was not that good with forging."

"How can someone be bad at something at this degree!? You blew up a forge for divinity's sake!"

The store clerk's eyes were wide open with disbelief. He did not want to believe a kid like this guy could be this bad at this. But he saw it happen himself. He also saw something different. Something he only knew that could happen in tales, his reason for becoming a blacksmith.

"Well at least we now know that simple iron is not fit for my techniques."

"Yeah about that… What were you doing in the end? That wasn't forging?"

"Well let's just say that I know a couple of advanced stuff for you." *Snicker*

"Bragging after destroying my forge?! Well there's nothing to be done now."

The clerk stood up with a sigh and began tidying up the room. His shoulders were drooped. He was a bit angry still but he was genuinely trying to hold it back. He truly saw something advanced in Rhaxtyx's forging but didn't want to believe himself.

"Hey, umm. What's your name? We didn't exchange our names I believe."

"Oh! My name is Roman Valamir. Remember that when you build me a new forge."

"Nice to meet you, you can call me Rax. Why do I have to build you a forge?!"

"We had a bet remember? My terms would be something different but regarding this, you have to pay for this mess."

"No that is boring."

"Hey! Are you going back on your words?!"

"Instead I have a proposal for you, Roman."

"What can you offer instead of this?"

Rhaxtyx smiled at Roman and held his chin with his right hand.

"It's simple, you never met me. I'm not from these lands you see, so I plan on continuing on my road. And I don't like being alone. This means I need party members."

"So you're asking me to join you?"

"Yeah."

"Why would I accept it?"

"Easy. You can refuse and stay here if you'd like, but I'm sure your skill as a blacksmith will be stalled. If you can come with me you can broaden your horizons and learn new things."

"I… don't know. I don't know you so I don't know if I can trust you. Especially after destroying my forge."

"Think about it. I'll leave in a couple of days. Well then, I'm off."

With a smile Rhaxtyx walked towards the door. Roman was left speechless after this. He sat down and began pondering.

The sun was high in the sky and more people were out in the streets. With nothing else to do, Rhaxtyx decided to return to inn for the time being.

He changed back to his usual Disguise on the way back and entered the inn. It was noon so there were patrons having their lunches. Rhaxtyx sat on his usual corner and ordered his meal as well. He really was planning of leaving in a couple of days so he thought about what to do from then on.

'I haven't practiced my spells in a while maybe I should go for that. I can also try second lines maybe, I feel like it is time.'

He ate his meal leisurely and ordered a tea as well. He sat there and relaxed. He was also watching the people around. There wasn't much to note except for a group of adventurers were here as well. They could hang out at the guild and this inn wasn't that big as well. There was a hotel as well so there wasn't much room left for the bar. Also the patrons here did not like too much noise. Unlike adventurers they liked calm. The most hubbubs this place sees were a band of bards. That's why adventurers would not come here.

But this party was different. They didn't seem very friendly to each other because of the tension between them and general lack of conversation. They were just sitting there and looking around, either searching for something or hiding something.

'Hmm? They were tailing me since yesterday. Doesn't matter, I'll look into it later. I have things to do.'

Rhaxtyx stood up and went to his room. He lay on his bed and fell into deep thought.

'Where can I go? What should I do? I don't know if I can go after Angeline. Those guys were really good, I don't think I can kill them easily. I need more practice and more understanding towards this world.'

He looked outside through the window, sun was still high up. He got up and grabbed Badgey.

"So, little bastard. Want to go for a walk?"

Rhaxtyx put Badgey on his shoulder and walked out. The adventurers were still there, just sitting and 'talking'. The party was composed of an archer, a swordsman, a thief like person hiding in one of the corners and a mage. The perfect party composition for many encounters. The thief's eyes were following him from the moment he stepped down the stairs. There was no malice in them, just caution.

Rhaxtyx gave a small chuckle and looked directly at the thief. When they locked gazes, the thief widened her eyes and almost fell off the chair she was sitting on. After laughing to himself he left the inn and walked towards the exit of the city.

He went towards the small wooded area to conceal himself from the general public. He searched for a while and found a small clearing deep within the shrubbery and trees. The city was left behind the tree line and could not be seen as well as there was no one at his immediate vicinity. Pleased with this find, he stretched his arms and looked around.

"Hmm, I'm going to need a target. Oi. Little bastard, there was a big rock over there somewhere. Care to push it here? I'll drop your disguise."

Badgey, after returning to its usual look, walked inwards to find a big rock while making some discontent voices.

"Oi stop complaining. This'll help getting back Ange after all so you should be happy!"

After helping Badgey set up the rock, he warmed up and put his arms forward.

"Let the experiments begin then!"

*BOOM!*

After chanting and an explosion, dust was flung in the air and there were debris all around. When dust settled Rhaxtyx was caught by his foot on a branch of a nearby tree. He was dangling upside down and there was hopelessness on his face. With a disappointed voice, he mumbled.

"Damn, second line of the original chant also doesn't work as expected. So, this needs reconstruction as well huh…"

*Thud*

"F*ck!"
