The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 25 - A Talk

{Blazing flames of the nether realm come forth

Engulf and gr-}

*Boom!*

"Damn it!"

Rhaxtyx stood up once more after failing another experiment. This was his twentieth try so far and this one had by far the weakest backlash.

"After all this time it became this weak finally. I'll have to keep trying. But night is about to fall and I better return to the city before the gates close."

He made his way towards the city after tidying himself a little bit. By the time he reached the inn, it was already night time. He entered and saw more people than usual. When he looked carefully there was a band playing instruments and dancing among the tables.

'Oh that's why. Bards give a festive mood indeed. Look at these people. There are even some that I've never seen a smile on their faces. Well this kind of thing from time to time isn't bad either.'

He looked but saw that his usual table was occupied so decided to sit at the first empty table he saw. As luck would have it, the table was next to the table where the adventurer party from that morning sat at.

'Oh you poor souls. Where you waiting for me the whole time? I feel kind of bad… Or not. Well at least they are having fun, even the thief. What moves she has!'

Just like he said, these adventurers were dancing while sitting and tapping with their feet. The thief of the group was more audacious with her moves as she was confident that no one would see her. But when she saw Rhaxtyx looking at her and snickering while covering his mouth, she almost fell down.

Rhaxtyx waved at a waitress and ordered a meal and a root bear, just to give it a try. His order would take a long time because of all the customers but Rhaxtyx assured the waitress that he could wait. After his order of meal and drink came he had a good time until he was a bit bored of the songs and the atmosphere. While making his way towards the stairs, he felt a pair of eyes. The source was an embarrassed woman sitting silently. Her cheeks were crimson and her eyes emitted a kind of anger only a woman can do. This was the dancing thief and when Rhaxtyx caught her eye, smiled and kept on walking.

He entered his room and put down Badgey from his shoulder onto the bed and breathed out. He heard a knock on the door and wondering who it was, opened the door. He saw the waitress called Sam knocking on the door of Rax.

'So it wasn't even mine? Oh well, not my prob-'

"Umm excuse me." (Waitress Sam)

"Yes?"

"Sorry to disturb your evening but can I ask you a question sir?"

'Probably about that guy.' (Rhaxtyx)

"I don't mind. What is it?" (Rhaxtyx)

"I know this is a long shot but do you perhaps know anything about the person staying at this room?"

"Oh that guy?"

"You know something?"

"Not much no. I only heard him go out in the middle of the night. I didn't care enough to look to be honest."

"I see… Sorry to disturb you sir, good night."

"Thanks."

With that Rhaxtyx closed his door and got in his bed. The only thing he heard afterwards was Sam's faint voice thinking out loud. He breathed out and closed his eyes to sleep. After he woke up and washed his face, he changed into Rax and descended the stairs with Badgey as the skunk like creature of Rax. When the inn keeper saw him he waved at him.

"Mornin son. Where've ya been?"

"Oh I was at a mission old man. I just returned."

"I see. Ye must be 'ungry."

"No I'm not angry. Why would I be?"

"No I meant 'ungry. As in not 'ad anythin in awhile."

"Aah. Yeah I'm a bit hungry."

"Okay. I'll give ya a noice meal!"

'The adventurers are still here huh? I guess today's destination is the Adventurers Guild. I'm sure they'll follow me around.'

He made his way towards the adventurers guild after having his breakfast. Badgey was on his shoulder and the adventurers were tailing him from as safe distance.

The usual sight was happening at the Adventures Guild. A line of adventurers was overflowing to the street this time though. Rhaxtyx could do nothing but wait so he entered the line. The party that was tailing him entered the guild without waiting. When there were some complaints, they said they didn't have any business with the guild and they were just there to eat.

After about an hour or so he was finally able to step inside. He could see the mission board from where he was. It was a good design, adventurers could select their missions while they were waiting and therefore they did not lose time. What caught his eye was an investigation mission. It read:

-There were suspicious explosions heard from the nearby woods and various signs of a fight were found. Investigate what or who could have caused this. Reward: 10 Silver-

'Oh. Looks like I've caused some trouble.'

After waiting for a long time he was finally able to approach the front desk. There was the same woman that took his sell order. When she saw Rhaxtyx she smiled checked something on the desk before speaking.

"Good morning mister… Rax. Are you here for your selling order?"

"Oh did it sell already? How much was it?"

"It was… 20 silver pieces after fees. Here you go."

"That was fast, thank you."

"You're welcome. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

"Yes, actually there is. I want to meet with the guild master."

"I'm sorry?"

"You heard me. I want to speak with the guild master."

"I'm sorry but I cannot do that."

"Well it's kind of urgent."

"I'm sorry. But-"

"Look I don't want to kill these idiots that are tailing me."

"I'm sorry?"

"I'm sure you know. The mage at the mission board, the archer and the swordsman who are eating there and the idiot thief who is up on the ceiling."

After he spoke voices of choking and someone falling could be heard. There was disbelief on everyone's faces and the thief started yelling.

"Why can you see me!? Why in the world can, not one, but two people see me!?" (Thief)

"Look I know he's behind that door listening to this conversation.

I just want to talk to you man. That's all I'm asking. Just come out here." (Rhaxtyx)

After his words, the door behind the desk opened and the guild master came out. He indicated the receptionist to let Rhaxtyx in. Surprised by this, the receptionist girl opened the counter door and led the way for Rhaxtyx under the many shocked gazes of adventurers.

After a small walk the girl stopped in front of a door before speaking.

"This is the office of the guild master, he's waiting for you."

"Thanks."

When he entered, he was greeted by a fragrant smell coming from a tea pot, set on a small table. The guild master was currently sipping from a small cup. After acknowledging Rhaxtyx with a nod, he indicated him to sit down with his hand.

"You wanted to see me, Mr. Rax?" (Guild Master)

"Yeah why did you make some incompetent people tail me?"

"I see you have an illusion type of spell on you. I'm guessing it as 'Disguise'. Why are you disguised as Mr. Rax?"

"Because it's convenient."

"Where is he?"

"He died."

"Did you kill him?"

"Nope, too much hassle. Especially the clean up. Do you know how hard it is to-"

"Who did it then?"

"A cloaked figure. Look why is he so important? Was he your relative or something? Secret love child?"

*Cough*

"Bullseye, right?" (Rhaxtyx)

"Of course not. Would you care to tell me your aim?"

"Nothing. Just leave me be. I'll probably leave soon anyways. Oh and I saw the mission."

"Which one? There are a lot of them coming every morning."

"The one about the explosions in the forest. That was me."

"Excuse me?"

"I can show you sometime if you want but I can't guarantee your safety. I'll probably go tonight as well. You want me to call you then?"

"No need. I'll notify the staff to remove that mission."

"So…"

Rhaxtyx opened his palm and reached out towards the guild master.

"What?" (Guild Master)

"So the mission is completed, right?"

"Yes, technically."

"And I'm the one who completed it. So where's my reward?"

"Are you serious? You just told me that you are the cause of it."

"Yeah and that concludes the investigation. So give me my reward."

"Haah. Fine! I'll make sure you get your reward."

"Thanks!"

After that Rhaxtyx stood up and made his way to the door. Just before he opened it he looked over his shoulder and said.

"So you'll leave me be, right?"

"And what if I don't?"

*Boom*

An invisible force pushed on the guild master. He felt a tremendous weight on his shoulders. And after a second it disappeared.

"I'm sure you will." (Rhaxtyx)

"You want to make The Guild your enemy?"

"You want to make me The Guild's enemy?"

After that Rhaxtyx left without a word. The guild master was shocked and sweated profusely.

'Looks like we have to be in friendlier terms with him in future.' (Guild Master)

'I can't believe this small party trick finally worked. Looks like I have to thank that old man for letting me experiment on him with this.'

As he made his way towards the exit of the building, he saw the party was still hanging around. He made his mana disappear and made his way to the back of the female thief. He whispered to her ears and left the building like a breeze. When she looked, there was no one.

"You only hide your body. Hide your mana as well you idiot." (Rhaxtyx)

"Huh!?" (Thief)
