THE GAMER

Chapter 18 - SHAYAN THARANI

Shaheer was startled. He never thought he would see stats of someone in real life. This was a normal occurrence in a game but seeing stats in real life is a broken thing. This means there abilities are numbered down. Shaheer then remembered a notification from past. He now realized that why it was written that his Qi could not be numbered. It meant that most of his abilities are also numbered down. He have stats too. Now that Shaheer have realized that, he have stats too, he need to find out how to see them.

'This ability is unfolding to be more and more like a game, so much that it scares me.' Shaheer thought as if he becomes used to this and he starts to live his life as if he is playing a game then he worries that he will forget what it is to live normally, as he will not be getting a second chance or restart in his life. He clearly knows now that one life is all he have unlike a save point from where he can start again. With a dangerous path ahead Shaheer made a resolve to not casually walk on a thread with his life.

The time Maheen completed the book a similar enlightened look was seen once again but now in her eyes. She unconsciously closes her eyes collecting all the information, Shaheer though she was having a similar moment like him when it felt that the whole book revised in front of him.

"Fascinating" that was all that could escape from her mouth while her eyes were still closed. Shaheer waited for her to connect back to earth. After her eyes opened, she immediately looked at Shaheer.

"Where did you find this book?! Are there any more volumes of this? Can I have them?" She had a spark in her eyes while asking questions.

"For that I would be asking you a question first. Are there any cameras around this shelf?" Shaheer said while pointing at the encyclopedia section.

"Are you saying that you picked it up from over there?" she had as surprised look on her face.

"Yes, but looking at your reaction, my hunch just got verified. This book does not belong to this library, does it?" Shaheer said with a carefree expression.

"Of course not, how could a no author named book just skim through under my radar? Moreover there are no books that goes on the shelf without me reading it, and I'm confident I haven't read this book till just now." She said with a stern voice.

"Oh, you are quite the keen eye." Shaheer said with a faint smirk on his face.

Maheen could feel the blood coming to her face after taking the compliment head on, she regretted the way she took a stern tone while bragging about herself.

"Why would you like to know who placed the book there?" a timid voice sounded out again. She had completely lost her confidence that she built up after reading the book and gone back to the low voiced girl she was.

"The same reason as yours, I presume." Shaheer said with a carefree expression neglecting the change of sudden tone.

"I see, then please follow me to the control room. I would better not have a favor of yours on me. Maheen said as Shaheer had let her read a book, which has helped her in understanding something she would not get even in a million years.

Shaheer followed her at the back of the library where he could see a hidden door with no handle, almost like the wall. It would not fool Shaheer, he had figured out that it was a door when he first came here but he was not someone to meddle with other affairs unless it directly connect to him.

Maheen knocked two times paused and then knocked again. The door opened from inside as two guards carrying a pistol came in view. They put their fists on their c.h.e.s.t without saying anything; it almost felt like some sort of salute.

She walked pass the guards as Shaheer followed her. They walked through the aisle and another door greeted them with two guards who saluted in their weird way again. Maheen looked a little red dealing with all this as she turned back to Shaheer saying,

"Sorry for this, my father is what they call a cautious man."

"I understand" Shaheer backed her up seeing that she was having it tough.

They finally went into a room as she ordered the guards inside the room to wait outside.

'A secret base' Shaheer thought as the room was filled with huge screens and they all show every space in library with no blind spots. These must be the recordings of those cameras Shaheer spotted but it seems like he could not catch them all as from the looks of it there were at least seventy-two cameras and Shaheer only spotted 32 of them, which should be more than enough.

They picked out the camera responsible to look after that particular shelf and rewind it to the place where the book was no longer there as they fast forward the till the time they could see it again.

When they were fast-forwarding the video while concentrating on the spot where the book comes in. a name flash by Shaheer's eyes as the book suddenly appeared there.

Although Shaheer saw a name, there was no actual body beneath it. It was as if the name was floating on thin air. Maheen tried to re-watch the tape in slow motion but the results were the same for her. She just saw the book appearing there out of thin air while on the other hand Shaheer could clearly see a name above 'nothing' but the flying name came close to the spot to place the book and left easily. This just brings out one explanation. The person under that name was invisible, however for some strange reasons Shaheer abilities could still perceive the person showing him the names and levels above their head like it always do.

SHAYAN THARANI (Lv.??)

???

'Now who would this angel be?' Shaheer had a carefree smile reading the name of a potential ally in future or possibly an enemy in disguise.
