The Liberal Assassin

Chapter 74 - Is this the End?

The electrocution chamber was nothing I imagined it to be. In fact, I would have mistaken it for a swimming pool if I hadn't known my fate in advance.

"Chain him well and lower him. Set the voltage low first before increasing it slowly. I want him to feel the pain."

"Yes, sir!" the guard saluted at the icy blond and went to make arrangements.

I would feel like an honoured guest to be treated with such special attention but today? I wished I hadn't been that foolish to jump into the lair of the cunning without triple checking and doubling the bag of tricks.

I felt death draw near when my arms were shackled to a device that lowered me into the water. If I thought the water would stop just beneath my chin, I was wrong.

Slowly but surely, the water went past my lips and I craned my neck, as much as I could hoping it wouldn't touch my nose. When I knew it wasn't going to stop there, I took in a lungful of air.

The water went over my head, cutting off all air that I needed. Was this really an electrocution chamber? How will they electrocute me if they were trying to drown me?

My question was soon answered by sharp pain attacking every inch of skin covered by water. No wonder they wanted me fully submerged. The current wasn't that strong so the pain was still bearable. I knew that this would only be the beginning and tried to hold out for as long as I could.

It felt like forever and I was almost out of air when they finally raised me from the water. Dizziness hit me with full force as I took in greedy gulps of precious air. My stomach felt queasy but I knew better than to show weakness that they could exploit.

"How was that for a starter?" Rion purred sickly.

Still gasping for air, I shot him a half-hearted glare. "Never felt better."

Arvin decided he didn't like my answer so, in retaliation, he shot me with a laser gun right through my shin. I tore my head back with a bloodcurdling howl. The pain of being shot wasn't as terrible as the pain of my body working in overdrive trying to heal the newly inflicted wound. Thankfully they didn't have this knowledge or they'd try to make holes in my body just for fun.

As blood dripped into the water, turning it a pinkish hue before dissolving, Rion cursed. Everyone present seemed to freeze in witness of a laser gun wound repair itself in under a minute and my hopes died.

Arvin blinked, not quite comprehending what was happening. Before the politician could shoot again to confirm his theory, Rion barked orders for me to be lowered again and have the intensity cranked up by ten times. Nobody defied him.

It was no mean feat for Nash to withstand such shocks but for me, it was more than I could take. In a few seconds the results were determined and somehow I was glad it was over.
