The Phoenix's Legion

Chapter 41 - To the Summit of Darkness

The hellboken crew had been making their way up the dark tower but the higher they got the colder the tower became; it was a frost that attacked with the might of three harsh winters. For some time not a single vampire stood in their way, they climbed the tower through the halls of black pearl stones. The uneasy anticipation of a vicious foe charging at you made our brave heroes very uneasy, the bitter silence seemed to be just as bad as the fear of facing Lilith. For so long nothing attacked them, that was until they were confronted by Julia, the first vampire that Von Drake turned.

Julia: "well I must say that you mortals have become quite clever, this campaign of yours is just a sneaky ploy to shield your little group as you aim to destroy the tower."

Killshot: "leave her to me, the rest of you will go on ahead, Thomas, you'll lead them on, unless the pretty vampire has a problem with that?"

Julia: "not at all, it wouldn't be fur to have you all to myself, even Lilith deserves some fun, not much for the poor girl to do all alone on top of this ugly tower."

Dracula: "well I say leaving you here with her is insane, Rosset will stay here with you, she might look like a simple thing but trust me when I tell you that she is as vicious as a wounded bear."

Ragna: "War-Fang shall stay as well, I won't leave Killshot with a vampire, especially with one that so recently turned against her mortal comrades."

The rest of the Hellboken group pushed forward to the summit of the Dark tower, leaving Killshot, War Fang and Rosset behind to face Von Drakes lover and second in command Julia. The group pushed on, the higher they climbed, the more intense the frost became only this time they could hear voices all around them speaking languages that were unknown to them. The walls would bleed a dark blood that carried a horrid smell and at the bottom of the blood were serpents of different size, shape and colour. The sight begun to frighten our heroes considering the simple fact that no snake could survive in a place so cold that it froze tears, sweat and blood still warm in the body.

As they advanced they were approached by another vampire, one that the five had not confronted but knew all too well about, Legion. The vampire elder Legion was once an entire religion that was 500 worshipers strong but they existed in a country that despised them mainly because of how they refused to fight for their country and preached peace and understanding.

They were branded traitors by their nation and sentenced to death, they were locked in their temple and burned alive. Before this Raziel had visited this temple and offered them his blood so as to include them in his vampire army but they refused so Raziel left them with a bottle of his blood and offered it to their religion as a blessing. When Raziel heard what had happened to these people he rushed to them in hopes of saving them but he was too late, all that was left was ash.

Raziel screamed to the heavens and demanded that the caring people of this beautiful religionbe returned to him, doing this sent the blood he left the religion to the sky. Slowly it begun to gather their ashes and turned into a giant ball of fire. From the flames emerged a tall man who spoke with the voice of 500 people, he bowed to Raziel and declared his absolute loyalty to him for he was the vampire that was summoned by the king's voice. This is Lilith's gate keeper, the only vampire that she could not corrupt or intimidate, the presence of this vampire elder alone was bone chilling.

Legion: "what you are doing will unleash an evil that none of us are prepared to face, please, look to your reason, turn back and except your humble existence, your sins can still be forgiven."

Ragna: "if we do nothing this darkness is all we will have until the end of our days, and I have stomached a humble existence for more than one life time, this wolf is ready to rule."

Legion: "the long darkness is a price we must all pay; it isn't perfect but this darkness is far much better than the darkness that has relentlessly been trying to enter our realm."

Thomas: "forget it, we won't live under the heel of the vampire race any longer, were going to destroy this tower and we are more than happy to go through every vampire to get it done."

Legion: "so be it, if you cannot play your part in the preservation of this world, then you must be cleansed from this world."

Dracula: "I guess this is where you leave me, am the only one who has more than one being inside of him and for the first time we all agree on something."

Vergil: "and what would that be?"

Dracula: "fighting Raziel's freak vampire elder, we have all hungered to see what he can do, Vergil, you'll stay here with me, am going to smack that cheeky high spoken expression right off his face.

Ragna: "Ayah, you'll stay here with Dracula, figured if you're going to face a vampire you may as well face one with a Lycan."

Dracula: "when this is over they'll be a large chunk of land for your people!!! So says the future king of vampires."

Ragna, Kiva and Thomas charged past legion and finally reached Lilith's doors which was completely covered with snakes, Thomas charged his hand canon and blasted the door open. Inside Lilith's room was the giant green flame that ascended to the sky, fuelling the dark tower, inside the flames was a black crystal.

Thomas: "now what?"

Kiva: "I don't know but going in those flames is out of the question, it's millions of cursed seals that have taken the form of fire, going in there would kill us."

Ragna: "then I'll use the song of war, I suggest the two of you get clear."

Lilith: "do that and these flames will burn us all."

Thomas: "oh hell."

The black crystal opened and out of it walked a beautiful dark haired woman with green eyes as that of a snake, as she walked towards them the green flames cleared a path for her and just like that our heroes were face to face with the most powerful magic user on earth.

Lilith: "it's safe to speak, my father can't see or hear us, I have waited a long time for you to come to me lycan king."

Ragna: "well here I am."

Thomas: "ok let's keep things simple, I shoot the flames, we run back to the exit and close the door behind this witch, let her prison do the rest for us."

Lilith: "you think this tower is my prison? oh, I gained your knowledge from that Labunka, for an elder who claims to be a master of history he knows close to nothing about me and my siblings."

Kiva: "we all know about how your father locked you up here."

Lilith: "and which father would that be, the broken hearted king or the titan that waits in the darkness."

Thomas: "what?"

Lilith: "I suppose that's a discussion for another time, you're here to stop the tower the only way to do that is to weaken my life force, do this and the crystal will crumble and your little mission will be complete. You could attempt to break it but you would then have to deal with all that blasphemy magic stored inside it."

Kiva: "weaken you? Am going to kill you!!!"

Kiva charged towards Lilith with her silver spear and with a single hand the mighty witch blocked her attack, as Lilith grabbed the silver spear she noticed that it burned her to the touch.

Lilith: "so Annabella's pony tail actually worked, good for you and your silver hunters but have any of you wondered about what the cost of such power is or have you already started to hear the forgotten son. I guess I shouldn't talk about such a thing so casually, not even my master knows of his existence, I do love the great serpent but a girl has to keep her options open."

Kiva: "how could you possibly know that?"

Lilith: "quite now little one, can't have father hearing us, didn't you hear me?"

Thomas: "get clear!!!"

Thomas fired his canons at Lilith as Kiva moved out of the way, not a single shot landed, there was some kind of green barrier that shielded her from the attacks, the only way to fight her was at close range.

Lilith: "the armoured blacksmith, if only you knew that the closer you get to Gaia's power the closer the winged fury gets to breaking the barrier that shields earth from the heavens."

Thomas: "what the hell are you talking about?"

The ground trembled as a golden mist begun to emit from Ragnar's body, the king of beast roared to the sky and all of his Lycan's roared back to their king. The battlefields had become littered with golden eyed warriors, the Lycan's have begun to awaken their beastly nature. Vampire, Lycan and man have found themselves pitted against one another, king battles king and king battles witch. Each king's legion of champions fights to achieve their d.e.s.i.r.es; what being shall achieve victory? And what new horrors beyond earth slowly approaches the battle of mortals and immortals.

Ragna's log: "I can barely breath, all this rage flowing through my body is numbing, I have to stay focused on Lilith, I mustn't harm Kiva or Thomas. All my instincts know that fighting Lilith in a human form will accomplish nothing, I haven't fully mastered my abilities and that dark cloud has left me in a weakened state but I have no choice. Am going to attack Lilith with the full might of the lycan king, even if it means harming my old friends in the process, a king must be ready to sacrifice to achieve victory. With my last bit of humanity, I will fight to tame the beast or the beast shall tame my humanity, but forward I will go, to whatever end."
