The Phoenix's Legion

Chapter 52 - Final Miracle and New Beginning

The mortal alliance has suffered great casualties to end the long darkness, the army held the strong holds as valiantly as possible but little by little the vampires pushed through. Labunka and Emrick cut down anyone who dared to face them, the army's moral slowly diminished and when our last group of heroes made their way in with a greatly wounded Dante and the corps of Tharion and Titus, the armies heart sunk. Ragna and the other commanders took charge to rally the men but many of them were baffled at the orange scaled man in what was clearly Killshot's armour.

Things got so bad that some soldiers actually dropped their weapons and start praying, they lost all passion to raise arms, the commanders were left with no choice but to lead by example. When the army saw their mightiest warriors take their stand at the front they at least found the nerve to stand behind them and chant their battle cries. Even Dante mustered the strength to stand beside his fellow commanders, the phoenix's legion, the dragon creed and the caber brotherhood rooted its forces to the battlefield, the mortal alliance was ready to face its end.

Labunka: "the stubborn fools have found heart to defy us one last time, Emrick!!! Wash away the shame of failing Damien by putting an end to this rebellion."

Emrick: "vampires of the immortal lands!!! Slaughter the mortals!!! Slaughter them all!!!"

The vampires charged to the mortal alliance that stood ready to beat back the vampire army with everything it had left, it was in that moment when it appeared, a bright flash of light. The light brought with it a large wave of water that washed the vampire army back to Labunka and Emrick. A shadowy figure walked out of the light and revealed itself to be Helios, the sight brought Drago and Yasumori to tears, more portals opened all around the mortal alliance. The forces that remained on Rovahn called to its brothers to run towards them while Tessa held the portals opened.

Labunka screamed with great rage, signalling the vampire army to attack the mortal alliance before they escaped, as they drew closer Helios summoned his trident and turned the water beneath the vampire army into blades. The princes act of strength gave the last of our heroes the time to go through the portals and flee the immortal lands, Helios had saved humanities greatest heroes. One moment at death's door, standing on Rovahn soil the next, the army got to their knees, for in such a moment an army would cheer but instead it cried for the lives lost. The army knew the price was far too great, men they drunk with, men they grew up with, the founder of the rebellion and the greatest king, gone.

Gilgamesh looked and saw a weakened Tessa on the floor whose actions took everything from her, he picked her up and led the silver hunters home with Anabella and Catalina beside him. The two princes picked up their father and made their way to the capital, Ragna and the Lycan's that survived the battle followed their alpha to the mountains where Ragna was found. Thomas and Kiva followed to the capital with Killshot, the orange scales slowly fell from his body and although Boian did not tell anyone he noticed that Killshot's hair had turned black and his skin smooth. Boian covered Killshot with a legion flag and kept what he saw to himself, Dante was carried by his fellow clansmen. The strange beast that seemed so attached to Dante finally lipped to the sky and was not seen by anyone again.

Three days pass and all our heroes gathered to the capital to witness the burial of Titus and Tharion, even the new crowned king of the vampires Dracula attended the funeral. The king and founder were buried with high honours and for two weeks Rovahn mourned, on the third week the heroes gathered again to celebrate their victory on the vampires and the end of the long darkness. Kiva's spear had been famed for being the tool that ended the long night, it had been named by all as night's end. Dracula honoured his promise to Ragna and gifted him many great lands for his caber brotherhood and insured that no vampire enters the lands of Rovahn.

For obvious reasons the next king of Rovahn was an avoided subject mainly because of all the candidates that showed interest to the throne but it was a subject the nobles were more than happy to press. With Yasumori being crowned the leader of the dragon creed, the long distant clan finally took its place in the phoenix's legion and returned to the east. Many of our heroes would take moments in private to watch the sunrise as well as admire the starts of the night, great sadness was felt in Rovahn for two years, then humanity healed and begun anew. The world forger gauntlets were used to make Rovahn large and mighty, equal to the immortal lands, to ensure no one would abuse the gauntlets they were split in four pieces. One was given to the legion, the other to the nobles of Rovahn, the other two were claimed by Ragna and Dracula and as agreed by all parties their they would remain forever parted.

For fifty years the world knew peace, a true and unbroken peace, generations aged and died and knew sons and daughters had been born but the Heroes of Rovahn remained. Dracula ruled greatly and Raziel had never been seen after the battle, with no other option all vampires yielded to Dracula. The caber brotherhood grew mighty and well known and as promised no lycan would bring harm to man or vampire. Only those truly devoted to the vampire's rule stayed to live as sustenance for them but even so Dracula commanded knew laws that protected the loyal humans from the abuse of vampires. The citizens of Rovahn didn't approve of this but it was a great compromise when compared to the previous way of things and so it was permitted.

After the fifty years passed strange occurrence's started Taking place, rumours spread of how strange people were being noticed in every land. These people's skin was cracked like ceramic and yet soft as any man's skin should be, they walked with eyes as that of a serpent. The most unsettling thing about them was that all those who witnessed them said that they wore the faces of the dead.

Many soldiers had sworn to have seen their fallen comrades in such a form and yet when approached they did not seem to recognise their allies. These strange individuals would be seen and then would vanish from sight, graves would be inspected and to everyone's shock they would find them empty. The most common seen was a small group of five, again many swore that among this five was the oracle Rose who for many years had been lost and yet all witnesses claimed she had not aged a day, how was that possible?

Speaking on the matter of Rose many also claimed to have seen her guardian shouting at the top of the mountains in a blue armour wielding a golden sword, he would be seen and then he would vanish. This sighting of the warrior had been occurring in more than one mountain top and hadn't some climbers from the caber brotherhood not witnessed this themselves many would have failed to believe it. Another strange occurrence was the sighting of a winged warrior with wings of black, bronze and red flying through the sky while holding what appeared to be a blind man.

Another sighting of a winged man was also mentioned but he always seemed to be stuck in the sky, always appearing to be trying to split the sky in two, he would then flap his wings and vanish. Thomas Noble had seen this winged man trying to split the sky with his b.a.r.e hands and it haunted him ever since. In his sleep he would see a winged warrior in golden armour and piercing eyes look at him with great anger, one day the dream seemed so real when the golden figure walked towards Thomas and call him sister.

Thomas awoke from his slumber and found himself burning up, his body was actually steaming, his bed scorched and the red crystal in his c.h.e.s.t was too hot to touch. Thomas looked around trembling as at the dark corner of his room he saw a woman standing, she walked from the shadows completely n.a.k.e.d with an intimidating stare. She was much larger than the everyday man and appeared to be heavier than most for the sound of her footsteps where as that of a fully armoured berserker knight. Thomas looked at the tall beautiful figure who had the most beautiful brown hair, her eyes were like that of the golden figure in his dreams.

The only thing difference with her was that she did not have wings and the depths of her eyes didn't appear to house the universe like the golden figure, with a tremble in his speech Thomas dared to ask.

Thomas: "who... who are you?"

Stranger: "I am Gaia of the divine realm and I have come to save humanity from a great danger that fast approaches, I have come for the one who was chosen to lead my rebellion against Alarmire."

Thomas: "wait a minute Alarmire, as a child I heard of that name, his just a children's story meant to make us distrusting of noble families."

Gaia: "this is no game mortal, my brother will know of my return and when he does he will look to kill the chosen one, now where is he? Time is a precious thing to us now for both Alarmire and Solomon come for their prize."
