Rock determines though he was grown from DNA to be a badass assassin, he is just not that into his job.

His problem... When you are an it, your controllers will not allow you to quit and settle down in some house and become a category five hoarder.

So he runs off into a midwinter Colorado snowstorm of Biblical proportions.

Between one step and the next, he is transported from a snow-covered fir forest to a sun-drenched forest on another planet circling another sun.

What is more, he is not the only transportee. Someone or some thing is dumping LARGE predators on the planet. That entity is also dumping an anthrax-like disease into the air killing LOTS of people.

Rock has gotten his wish: He is somewhere else. Admittedly he is further away than he had expected, but close enough. He must now build a new life.

Along the way, he picks up a very powerful female wizard, a very lonely female dragon and an effective female oracle. He also convinces a full U.S. Marine Corp Expeditionary Force to throw in with him. (Where did they come from and why?) Oh, lest I forget, he stumbles across some dwarves who REALLY want to make the best steel in the universe. (Monomaniacs anyone? There IS such a thing as being too focused.)

So the question becomes: How do you build a nation with such desperate parts?
