The Sun-Moon Spear God

Chapter 3 - Growing up

Author Notes:

The previous chapter was changed in the second half since I thought that making MC grow up with tang san would seem to forced since Tang Hao while loyal wasn't shown as someone who would adopt a kid of their friend to raise himself. He would rather have them as far away as possible to make it so they stay safe.

My MC and tang san have been decided to meet at the Nuoding Academy therefore I changed the background of his parents as well since it wouldn't seem logical otherwise...

Also the next chapter will be the spirit awakening ceremony so can you guys suggest me spirits for the MC's second spirit.

I do have some ideas but more options would be nice.

Thanks for reading the note.

Let's start with the chapter...

Chen Xin's POV..

If you ask me, the process of being born is not pleasant at all. The sudden rush of sensations which come at you all at once is very fascinating yet very very painful, especially to the body of a child which isn't used to it.

I had heard the women talking just after I was born. I wasn't able to focus much but from what I had gathered, I could understand that my mother had died while giving birth and my father had been killed recently.

While I was sad that I didn't have a family in this life as well... I didn't focus too much on it so I wouldn't go into depression. Still I could in a distant part of my mind, see the benefits of such a thing. Having no parents would allow me more freedom to practice the scripture and it would mean that I didn't have any weaknesses to tie me down.

I squashed the second thought the moment it started as it would lead me down a path I definitely didn't want to go through.

Still, the body of a baby needed rest and I soon fell asleep and entered the land of dreams.....

Matron POV...

In all of her time as the matron of the orphanage in Seven Leaves Village, she had never quite seen a child like Chen Xin.

He didn't look a lot different, he had red and blue hair which looked quite good despite the odd combination as the hairs were all mixed and evenly distributed throughout his head and not particularly divided in two parts. He had inherited his fair complexion from his mother while he had his father's facial structure. He had crystal clear black eyes which shined with l.u.s.tre when in light. She figured that he would look very handsome when he grew up.

Chen Xin, even just after when he was brought in the orphanage wasn't like the other children, he never cried unless it was absolutely necessary like being hungry or if he needed a change of clothes.

He also seemed to have a glint in his eyes when he looked at her, making her feel as if he knew who she was and was grateful for it. I mostly dismissed them as illusions since why would a newly born baby understand anything....

Soon a year passed and I realised that Chen Xin was very intelligent for his age since he started to talk, crawl and even walk earlier than the other children.

Time passed as another year went by and she could see that Chen Xin didn't play much with other children in the orphanage and stayed by himself, he even sneaked out in the later parts of the morning and returned all sweaty and tired. When I had asked him why he didn't play with the other kids and where he went off to the first few times, he replied that the other children were very clingy and that he wanted to stay alone but still promised that he would play with them sometimes, as for where he went he said that he wanted to run to build his stamina and muscles since he read a book about spirit masters and wanted to become one when he grew up.

I let him do as he pleased so long as he promised he would socialise with more people and not get hurt when he went to run and coming to me if he needed any help. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he wouldn't be able to become a spirit master if he didn't have a good talent or a spirit which was useless in combat.

Slowly another year passed with Chen Xin starting to do simple exercises he had learned from the defence force of the village who liked him as he was polite and was also the son of one of their late members.

When Chen Xin turned 4, he had started doing strange stances which looked like it was a technique, with a stick which was rather long for his frame.

He didn't do it front of anyone, but rather he went to a rather isolated area just inside the village border which was surrounded by trees and small hills. I only knew about it since I had sneakily followed him one day after he had started to go missing for more than his usual time.

I did wonder who had taught him that but figured that it must be one of the people in the defence force of the village.

Finally now Chen Xin and the other kids his age were 6 years old and tomorrow a spirit master would be invited in the village to perform the spirit awakening ceremony.

All the children were very excited, even Chen Xin in his almost stoic face showed a small excited smile. I was happy for all of them yet I was also worried since not all people had spirits which allowed them to become spirit masters.

Not that I could do anything about it, I only prayed that the children don't get too depressed if they couldn't become a spirit master.....
