Time Traveling Hero

Chapter 47 - Hiro’s Hero Triumphs PT.9: Triumphs of New: A Hiro’s Excursion PT.1

After bidding Anna farewell, I took a seat by the desk, letting my body relax as I sunk into the chair.

"I've got about a minute," I murmured, taking this chance to relax before I would be stressed out for the rest of the day, being responsible for everyone's lives.

Yay.

"This isn't a video game Hiro; this is the real deal. One mistake could cost all of them their lives." I could feel myself starting to tremble at that thought, but I took a deep breath, calming my nerves. You have a plan, stick with it, and everything will be fine.

I could feel the nervousness gnawing away at me, and I started to tap my foot as I stared towards the roof of the giant tent we were in. "This job is looking like more of a handful with every passing minute. So much to do and think about, and there's never enough time, despite how much I create for myself…"

I stretched upwards, cracking my neck before putting on my glasses and setting Nymphy on the table.

Well, here goes nothing.

"Nymphy, call all the Squadron Leaders and Anna."

"Calling all of them for yah big guy!" Nymphy responded, and 36 separate holographic screens popped up around me, each labeled with a number corresponding to what squad they belonged too, plus one audio only call for Anna.

"All calls accepted for yah, I'm loading up their view now!"

I nodded, turning on the blue pair of glasses, grinning to myself. "Right, let's do this shit!"

-------------------------------

"Squad 15, how's your situation!?"

"Going good boss man, everything's going according to plan!"

"Good, how about you Squad 7?"

"Not doing so hot." I spun my chair around to Squad 7's view and enlarged it to triple its size to see them getting bombarded by enemy weaponry. "We were almost successful into getting to their laser cannons, but it seems they were put on guard by Squad's 25's quick overtake into their facility."

"Damnit, I told them not to rush in there! Ugh, Anna!"

I tapped my glasses to see an overhead of where Squad 7 was at. Thanks to Anna flying around, she had managed to put flying cameras around where each of the squads were at (they were equipped with camouflage capabilities and had anti-air weapons in case they got attacked as well), and she was on standby in the air.

"Damn is that bad," I murmured, watching the cannon tear through the forest, setting it ablaze. "Are there any casualties!?"

"None so far, but at this rate, we'll be overrun!"

I nodded. "Anna, you know what to do!" .

"Understood Master, Anna will be there in no time flat."

Good, that's taken care of. "Okay, Squad 25, what the hell are you doing now!?"

"We've already captured our part of the wall sir, and we're on standby as we speak!"

"I thought I told you to wait!" I yelled out, watching Anna weave her way towards the laser cannon and blow it up with one of her own making. "Fine then, since you're so hasty, start plan 2E and help Squad 9 with their pincer move. They'll be needing it soon by the looks of it."

"On our way sir!"

I diminished Squad 7's screen and tapped my glasses again to turn them off before whirling around to Squad 23. "Alright, give me an update Squad 23!"

"Your dinosaur idea is working great over here! They weren't even expecting them! Plus, it seems dinosaurs have an innate resistance to energy-based attacks, putting the enemy at a disadvantage." I watched as a pack of Oviraptors tore through one of the enemy gates, ripping the enemy's weaponry apart, the squad not far behind.

"It won't work for long so long as they have dinosaurs as well but keep up the good work!"

Speaking of that… "Squad 35, how's the rescue operation going?"

"Man, you sure seem busy," Roberto muttered.

"Shut up and tell me your damn status! Don't waste my time, I'm busy trying to keep everyone frigging alive right now!"

"Uh, right! We ran into an issue actually…"

What? I whirled around again to zoom in on their progress and started to see the problem. "Damn it, how many did they release already!?"

"Only a quarter at the moment. It seems Cyrene decided to go ahead and release a damn T-rex on some poor Squad, and is attacking someone nearby."

Ah, that must be them then. "Don't worry about them, they can handle her. Any other issues?"

"Yeah, we haven't been able to get into their facility-!" He suddenly got cut off, and I watched as it seemed the forest itself tore through the enemy's walls before receding again as if nothing happened.

"Looks like your problem's solved, now get a move on! Squad 29, how is it going with your diversion by the eastern wall!?"

"We're doing well with coordinating with the other 5 squads here, and the dinosaurs are doing real well keeping the enemy's attention away. We should be able to hold our own for the time being."

Good, so Squads 29-33 are okay. "Anna, do you see any issues on your end?"

"No problems here. Squad 13 did a good job taking out their aerial weaponry, so Anna has nothing to worry about."

"Good, now-!" Before I could continue, I tensed up as I sensed someone approaching me, and I whirled towards the entrance to see a woman, probably around 20 or so, start to approach me.

"U-um, am I bothering you?"

I quickly managed to snap out of it and glanced at all the screens. It looks like they'll be fine for the time being. "No, not at the moment. I take it you're the hero guarding our camp?"

She nodded, walking up to my desk. She had snow white hair and sky-blue eyes, with skin paler than snow. Her hair was covering half her face, with it turning into a braid at the end. She hesitated before looking at all the screens.

"I, I just thought I sh-should introduce myself is all…" she trailed off, eyes widening at the number of holographic screens pulled up. "Are you really keeping track of all these?"

I nodded. "It's tough work. I've been at it for at least 5 hours now. I'm kinda hungry now actually. You got any food?"

"Eh!? O-oh, no, I wasn't that thoughtful or anything like that. I'm sorry…" She trailed off, holding her arm as her gaze went downward.

"It was only a joke, no need to apologize." Okay, I was actually hungry, but I can hold off until I get back home to have some sweet old Luna food. "Anyway, you're a Hero like me right? What number are you?"

"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself!" She yelled out, her face flushing red. "U-uh, my name is Khione the Ice Hero, pleased to meet you! I'm the 25th Hero!"

Oh, I was going to look at her triumphs next. What a coincidence… "I see, well I'm Hiro the Hero, no epithet yet. I'm the 100th Hero apparently."

"I see. S-so, is this for your triumph?" She asked, peering at all the screens. "I-it seems like a lot…"

"You're telling me. This is just a pain in the ȧss in my opinion. Honestly, that damned Director knew I wouldn't be able resist, but couldn't he have made my triumph a little less taxing on my brain?"

She let out a small laugh. "All triumphs are like that, whether taxing on the brain, the body, or the heart…" She trailed off as her smile faded, and I watched her hand clutch her white t-shirt. "An-anyway, I just wanted to stop by and let you know I existed is all. Plus, I wanted to meet the Hero who managed to change our timeline so easily to such a radical extent; it's basically a different mission now…"

"Is it really that hard to do?" I asked, and she shook her head.

"Y-you have no idea. If it were easy, wouldn't anyone be able to do it? It's impressive…"

I guess it's more a deal than I was expecting… "Huh, way to boost my ego I guess. Anyway, I have to get back to making sure they don't die. You can stay here if you want."

She shook her head. "No, I can't. Besides, enemies should be showing up soon anyway, and I have to go deal with them. Sorry if you get cold later…" And then she left as quickly as she came.

I have to wonder if she's the hero Kimberly was talking about. I shook my head. "Enough about that, Squad 21, give me a report!"

-------------------------

"Damnit!"

The situation on the north side of the enemy base, where Squad 25 rushed the plan, was taking a turn for the worse. Because they rushed in there and ended up helping Squad 9 sooner, the enemy was able to recover when the squad left, turning the north walls of the enemy base into siege warfare, the last thing I wanted.

"This is what happens when you rush the damn plan!" I yelled out to Squad leader 25, who so happened to be Kimberly.

"Sorry about that! We got a bit too overexcited over here, it's our mistake. But you have a plan, don't you?"

I really didn't. I had plans for if Squad 9 needed help sooner, but that was only if Squad 25 didn't finish early. Because of that, when the enemy took over the ground Squad 25 already captured, Squad 9 and 25 still hadn't finished up their pincer move, which caused 25 to get caught in a pincer move of their own, forcing both squads to retreat. And because of that, the squad I was going to send some help too, which was Squad 10, got stuck in a stalemate with the enemy, which caused a stalemate for all 4 squads attacking the north (Squad 14 also got into a stalemate for the aforementioned reasons).

I mean, who makes a plan for if a squad finishes early? I glanced at all the screens, sighing. Anna was busy helping with the attack on the eastern wall while the diversion was in place, so she couldn't do anything; besides, not even I thought she could take the northern wall solo. That was just a suicide mission.

What to do, what to damn do. "Hey Anna, how much longer until you're finished?"

"Too long."

Damnit all to hell. Is there nothing I can do…?

If they couldn't take the northern wall, everyone else's escape route is shot, and that'll be their deaths. I wish I could send a squad from the diversion of the eastern wall, but they're locked in vicious battle right now. It was taking up most of my time leading them to victory, but it seemed the other side had someone tactically adept as well…

I could try to shift some roles around, but that was risky in itself, especially since that would mean being unable to capture the enemy base entirely, which was part of the overall goal.

I could ask for their help, but they're busy doing their own thing. So, what else could I possibly-!

I suddenly heard a vicious roar come from outside my tent, along with the temperature dropping about 50 degrees.

"Is she fighting out there?" I asked myself, starting to shiver. But the enemy shouldn't have any dinosaurs they're able to use, since Squad 35 had already begun fighting the enemy on their front. Unless…!

"Give me a minute, alright? I might be able to do something!"

"Got it, we can hold on for a while longer, just let us know what you plan to do!"

I rushed out the tent to see the grass covered in a layer of frost along with the tents covered in snow, making our base a winter wonderland. In the distance, near the edge of the jungle I could hear fighting, but in the opposite direction, near the center of the clearing, another roar whipped through the air, causing the very air to shake.

I rushed towards the noise, another roar causing my ears to ring slightly before I made my way to the source.

"What the, why is another dinosaur still here?"

It was a Triceratops, thrashing around as the temperature continued to drop, letting out another one it's deafening roars.

"Trikey!?" I yelled out, and I started to approach him without hesitation. He started to notice me, and let out a guttural growl, stamping on the ground.

He must not like the cold then. Makes sense I guess. And just like that, a stroke of brilliance came unto me, and I let out a small smile, letting the crazy idea take root.

"Hey, you must hate the cold too, right!?" He let out another growl as I continued to approach him. "Trust me, I hate it more than ever now that I remember a bunch more stuff!"

He stopped his growling as he looked at me with intelligent eyes, letting out a small roar.

"We both hate the cold, and we both have no reason to stay in it, right?"

I managed to reach him, and I could feel him starting to relax as I put my hand on his snout. "So, what say me and you go for a ride, huh?"
