Time Traveling Hero

Chapter 9 - Unnamed Boy Partakes In The Hidden Club's Activities

After my last class of the day, which was AP Literature, I packed up my things and slowly made my way to the club room, where my attendance was mandatory.

I passed by the various members of the Going Home Club on my there, and I couldn't help but sniffle as I walked away from the dream I had so held so close to my heart.

I continued onward, walking by the sports teams warming up before they started their practice before walking into the old school building.

I made my way into the club room and was surprised to find that I was the first one there. I had also noticed someone had placed my chair near the others, probably the Prez. Scowling, I grabbed it and put back into it's rightful place before setting my bag down and plopping myself down into the seat.

Well, now what the hell do I do? I thought to myself. It's not like I had any school work to complete, seeing that I've finished them all. I guess I could partake in one of many hobbies.

I whipped out my phone and plugged in my earbuds before sticking in them in my ears. You see, I really like anime, and I often will find myself watching a random 12-13 episode one at night, keeping me up until about 2-3:00 o'clock, hence why I'm always running my hardest to school. At least, that was the case until I got Raijin.

I booted the site I used up (obviously legal, like you should too), and decided to try to continue catching up to a long running anime about a boy in a straw hat.

I got through about 2 episodes before the sliding door opened up behind me.

"As usual, I'm the first one here!"

I turned around to find myself facing Prez, who seemed pretty confident in her statement.

"Sorry number 2, but I'm first," I commented before putting away my phone and earbuds.

"Eh! When did you get here number 1!?"

"About 30 minutes ago. Why am I the first one here anyway? It's your club after all."

She crossed her arms with a "hmph!" before turning her head away. "I am the student council president in case you forgot! I do have other duties to attend to!"

"Like making everybody else on the council do your work for you?"

"Exactly!" she said, nodding in agreement with no shame at all.

She went off and grabbed a chair before placing it in the same spot as yesterday, where she would be sure to pester me.

"Shouldn't you be studying number 2 instead of doing whatever the hell you do in here? After all, someone like you needs all the help they can get if they want to beat me," I said at her behavior, teasing her slightly.

She pouted at my statement before another smile, similar to one Eris would have, grew on her face. Oh no, I have a bad feeling about this.

"You know, you inspired me today! I know what our club activities are going to be!"

Wait, she didn't know beforehand? And what idea could've sparked in her crazy head from what little I just exchanged with her?

She got up, clearly excited by her idea. "Stay here, I'll round up everybody here lickety split, along with the supplies we'll need!" and then she was gone, her brown hair trailing off behind her as she went to find the other club members.

Welp, time to make my escape. I grabbed my backpack and was just about to head out the door when she returned, with everybody in tow.

"Lucky me! Everybody was all walking here together, so it was pretty easy rounding them up!"

Damn you guys, couldn't you have been farther apart?

"Me and Hera will grab the supplies! Come on Hera!" she said, dragging him away by the arm to a nearby room.

I glared at the rest, who were busy looking at Prez and Heracles before clearing my throat. "I thought you said it was rare for everybody to show up here, Cae!?" I asked menacingly.

"Oh yeah, well everybody wanted to make you were all situated and comfortable, so we all came!" he said, slightly excited.

"Even Pinkie?" I asked, not convinced.

"Also, Mrs. Cardea told us that we should come before you try something," Lachesis continued, giving me her usual sharp gaze. I don't even know what I did to her, but I had a feeling she wouldn't tell me even if I asked.

"Ah, so the mastermind is revealed," I muttered, turning back around to sit in my seat. Seriously, how can one woman be so damn crafty?

The others gathered around the table before sitting in their seemingly usual seats as we all waited for Prez and Heracles to show back up.

We could all hear loud noises and yells from Prez as they tried to get the materials they needed for her big idea.

Soon, the loud noises were followed by a loud scraping noise as they made there way back with a chalkboard, textbooks, and other school supplies, all transported at once by Heracles. I don't even know how he managed to find the strength to carry all that crap.

After he placed the chalkboard at the end of room near the window, he took his seat, with Pinkie on his right.

"Hehe, I've come up with a brilliant idea, thanks to number 1 here!" Prez exclaimed as she slammed her hand on the chalkboard.

"We're going to have a study group today, led by the number 1 in academics himself!"

Everybody turned their heads at number 1, who so happened to be me.

"Wait, this jackass is number 1!? No way, I can't believe it!" Pinkie roared out in outrage.

"Listen, if you're trying to be a cute moe character, you need to learn how not to shout out everything at the top of your lungs. Prez already has that front covered," I responded. "And you've made it pretty clear that someone as inane as yourself can't understand logic, so I don't want to hear about me being so dexterous in academics from you Pinkie."

Pinkie looked confused at the words I just used at her, clearly proving my point. Lachesis smiled at my joke, along with Caelus who was chuckling. It seemed at least some were smart enough to understand my insults.

"Anyway, now that number 1 has indisputably proven why he's number 1, he'll be teaching us various subjects for the rest of the day. As number 1, he should even be able to help me with some things I'm confused about!"

Wait, so basically I'm helping everybody else while gaining nothing in return?

"I think that's a great idea! I really want to be with Depra next year, so I need to study hard to catch up to him," Lachesis agreed.

Everyone else agreed with her idea, except obviously me.

"Hold on, why do I have to teach? If you really want help, go ask a teacher. That is what they're here for you know," I said, firmly disagreeing with the majority.

"Well, asking a teacher can kind of nerve wracking, you know? Asking a student, even an asshole such as yourself is a little bit easier," Pinkie objected. She just wants to see me suffer, that has to be it.

"Well, as this Hidden Club's Prez, I commanded you to do as I say!"

I looked at everyone's faces before turning to Depra's. "You have one shot to convince me, otherwise I'll leave immediately."

"Eh!?" he said, turning to everyone in confusion. They all gave him looks of encouragement. "Um, I guess because I need help too? I also want to stay with you next year. I don't want to grow closer apart just because we don't have classes together," he said, his sad brown eyes watering as his voice cracked with sadness.

I sighed and scratched my head. "Well, I guess it can't be helped, can it?"

"Then let the Hidden Club's first study session begin!"

The study session, known as the Hidden Study Group (dubbed its name from the Prez), was basically just a Q&A in each subject, and I at first just blatantly gave them the answer before moving on. However, the Prez wasn't having it.

"Make some effort! This is our futures your helping us with!"

Help your own futures, I thought, but I reluctantly agreed to her request.

Soon, about an hour passed of me doing this, and we had just finished the subject of History.

"All right, is there any requests for what subject to do next?" Prez asked the others.

"How about we stop here?" I offered eagerly.

"Denied!"

Ah well, it was worth a shot.

"Um, could we maybe work on Math?" offered Depra meekly.

"Yeah, I guess we could. Alright, who has questions on my math?" I asked, hoping to blaze through this topic.

"Oh, I have a question actually!" Pinkie exclaimed, waving her hand in the air furiously.

"Anybody else have a question?"

"Hey, that's rude, even for you!"

I silently chuckled to myself. "Alright Pinkie, what's your question? Now that I think about it, what math are you in?" I asked, curious about what level she was at.

"Oh, I'm in Geometry Honors," she mumbled, clearly embarrassed.

"That's better than what I was expecting. I'm not exactly the greatest at Geometry though, so hopefully I'll be able to help you out." I hated Geometry. I was so happy when I was back in Algebra, and I just completely forgot about it afterward.

"Oh, so you aren't a superhuman then," Caelus said with wide eyes.

"Of course not, I struggle to understand some things back in the day, although now it's so easy I wonder if it's really getting harder or not."

"I think that's just you," Heracles muttered while shaking his head.

"Um, anyway, my question is about triangles. I really don't get the combinations of A.S.S, SAS, etc."

Lachesis giggled to herself when Pinkie said A.S.S, otherwise known as Angle-Side-Side. I guess she's still a little imm.a.t.u.r.e to laugh at stuff at that.

I was actually stumped here. Again, I had completely forgotten about most of Geometry, not really needing it at my level of math. I stopped and put my hand to my chin, thinking about it for a good long while before answering.

"Alright, let me write it down."

"An immediate answer! I thought you weren't good at Geometry!?" exclaimed Prez.

"So, you know about the Laws of Sine and Cosine, right?"

"Um, yeah, I think I remember it."

I wrote down the equations on the chalkboard before turning back to her.

"So, when you have more angles than sides, you want to find the last angle, which is pretty easy. Just add up the two angles you have and subtract 180." I wrote down two random angles and did the math as an example.

"Uh huh, and then what?" she asked, writing down what I wrote on the chalkboard.

"Okay, then after that you use the Laws of either Sine or Cosine to find the sides." Using the three angles, I quickly found the sides, showing each step and explaining what I did to Pinkie, who seemed to be slowly getting it.

"And if you have more sides than angles, than what?" She asked me after I finished.

"You just do the opposite. You use the Laws to find one of the angles, and then find the last one by adding the two and subtracting 180." I showed her another example, this time using the Laws to find the angles.

"After that, you use the last angle to find the last side using the Laws, and then you're done."

The Prez clapped at my fine showing of math, along with Pinkie, who looked impressed.

"You're actually not that bad at explaining for an a.s.s," she complimented me while insulting me at the same time. Eh, I guess there was some progress.

"So any other questions?" I asked.

"How about Derivative rules, can you explain that?" asked Depra. "I really just need help with Quotient rule. It can get so tedious sometimes, and then I make little mistakes simplifying it."

"Well, you don't always have to do Quotient rule you know. You can just bring the bottom to the top and use product rule, or you can try to simplify the problem before you start, both which make it way easier in my opinion. But, just remember this phrase that I came up with."

I wrote down what I was explaining, showcasing the examples I had given. I then wrote the phrase I had came up with to remember the quotient rule.

"Down D up minus Up D down all over Down squared. Remember that, and you shouldn't get confused. Also, after you figure out the top, try to cancel before simplifying. You also don't have to simplify the bottom either, so it makes your life a lot easier. The teacher said that on the exam we also don't have to simplify all the way either, so try to get into the habit of doing that as well. You can save yourself a lot of points just by doing these alone. Also, for math, you just need to practice the problems until you can do them with your eyes closed; how long that'll take is up to the person," I said, finishing up my explanation.

"Whoa, so this is the difference between an average student and the top spots in academics," Heracles whistled.

"You really are so smart, you know that?" Depra praised, clearly impressed.

"It's really nothing, I'm just there learning the same as you," I muttered, feeling my ears heat up in embarrassment.

"Depra's right, even I learned some stuff from this!" Prez exclaimed, clearly ecstatic at this rare opportunity.

Silence. I could slowly feel my face getting more flushed by the second. Before anyone could notice, I turned around to the chalkboard and erased all the work I had done. "So, any more questions?"

"Yeah, what moon is it?" I heard Pinkie ask randomly.

"Math related questions dummy," I said, sighing before turning around.

"I think it's a full moon tomorrow," answered Lachesis.

"..."

"Hmm? What's wrong with you?" asked Prez, noticing the shocked expression on my face.

I quickly checked my phone. Crap, it's already past 6:00!?

"Damn it!" I yelled out before grabbing my things and rushing out the door, ignoring their protests.

"Sorry, I'll make it up somehow!" I yelled out before racing to the back of the school.

"Raijin! Come!"

And then he was there, sensing the urgency in my voice, he had already turned back into his big form. He knelt down to the ground, and I hopped on.

"I've got to make it home now!"

And then we were off, on our way back home. I just prayed that it hadn't occurred yet...

And that was how The Unnamed Boy's first day of activities with the Hidden Club ended.
