Unfortunate Romance

Feng Ting blinked at the women. Recognizing her, Feng Ting's voice turned flat. "My bad." She turned away.

"Hold it right there!"

Feng Ting g.r.o.a.n.e.d inwardly. "Yes?"

"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be overseas!"

Feng Ting raised an eyebrow. "I didn't realize Miss Tang was tracking my whereabouts." Tang Liqin was the best friend of her sister Song Xia Ying.

Back then, the Song family had adopted Xia Ying and her together. However, Song Xia Ying was treated as the jewel of the family while she was ostracized. Tang Liqin and Song Xia Ying often teamed up to make her life miserable.

Tang Liqin snorted. "Who cares where you go? A disgrace like you should have stayed overseas." She raised her voice. "Judging from your dress, you put a lot of effort into your appearance tonight. If one didn't know, they would think you were here for someone."

Around them, the crowd broke into whispers, sensing a topic for gossip.

Feng Ting narrowed her eyes. "Mind your words Miss Tang."

Tang Liqin sneered. "You have been chasing after Xia Ying's boyfriend ever since high school. Everyone knows that you went overseas for Gu Tianyu. I'm warning you now to stay away from Xia Ying and Gu Tianyu."

She pointed to where a woman in white sat playing Für Elise at the piano. A handsome man stood by the side, eyes trained on the woman. Both were masked, but their faces easily discernible. A small crowd had also surrounded the duo in admiration. "See that? Stop pestering Gu Tianyu. Only a talented woman like Xia Ying is worthy to be by his side."

Feng Ting stared at the woman who spoke so righteously like she was defending her friend from a third party. She replied slowly. "First of all, I went overseas to study music and that's it. If I wanted to chase a guy, why would I leave the country? Second, I admit I admired Gu Tianyu in the past, but those feelings died long ago. If Miss Song likes him, then so be it, it has nothing to do with me." Half truth, half lies.

Tang Liqin's eyes blazed in anger. What was with that attitude? How dare she make it sound like Xia Ying took her unwanted scraps.

"Sister, you are back?" Song Xia Ying stepped forward, taking Tang Liqin's hand. Dressed in a white Chanel dress and hair down, she looked like a fresh white lotus. "Please don't blame Liqin, she gets a little protective of me sometimes." Her eyes gave an innocent look as she reached for Feng Ting's arm.

Feng Ting avoided the hand. "Miss Song, we are not that close. Please keep your hands to yourself. I don't swing that way."

A few spectators coughed, quickly turning to hide the smiles on their faces.

Song Xia Ying's eyes flashed in anger, but it vanished as her eyes misted. "Sister . . . " Her body trembled, intending to invoke pity.

"Song Feng Ting, don't go to far!" Feng Ting sighed, exasperated, as she saw Gu Tianyu marching over like a knight in white armor. He swept Song Xia Ying into his embrace protectively. "Why are you bullying Xia Ying?"

Feng Ting observed the man in front of her slightly. Sigh, she could see why teenage girls would be attracted to him. With his decent singing capabilities, he definitely had the demeanor of a popular singer. If paired with a rising classical musician who had pure looks like Song Xia Ying, it would garner support from many fans.

Unfortunately, he wasn't her type.

Feng Ting peered around the trio exaggeratedly.

"What are you doing?" Gu Tianyu snapped.

"I'm checking for cameras. You're all putting such effort into acting out this scene, it would be a pity if it failed to be posted online." Feng Ting blinked innocently.

Gu Tianyu's face turned ugly. "You —"

"Also I simply avoided her hand. Whats with the tears? There's no need to look like I killed her family in front of her." Feng Ting said airily.

Around them, a few women burst into muffled laughs. Guess the hate for white lotus acts were shared.

"Sister," Song Xia Ying interrupted with a forced smile, "I just felt a little emotional seeing you again after all these years. I hear your studies have gone quite well. Are you planning to enter the music industry? I can help you get a place in a few concerts." Her smile grew wider. According to rumors, Song Feng Ting had barely passed music exams during her school years. She would never play on the same level as her.

"Tsk, Xia Ying, you're being too generous," Tang Liqin snorted quietly, "there's no helping the talentless vixen." Tang Liqin was actually slightly shocked. The last time she saw Song Feng Ting, the latter had a sickly complexion and looked like she had half a foot in the grave. The transformation since the four years was astounding.

Song Feng Ting, in this outfit, completely overshadowed her and Xia Ying. She had an air of confidence and enchantment, ad drastic contrast to the purity of her sister.

Tang Liqin raised her voice. "Song Feng Ting, why don't you compare a few notes with Xia Ying today? There are quite a few musicians her tonight. Why don't you get some feedback from them?" She wanted to embarrass her today.

"Why should I?" Feng Ting wanted to leave the gala now . Running into the annoying trio of flies completely destroyed her patience to remain.

"Then you must apologize to Tianyu and Xia Ying." Tang Liqin insisted. Gu Tianyu observed with cold eyes in assent while Song Xia Ying sent her a provocative look from his embrace.
