When A Ghoul Falls In Love

Belinda blinks her eyes, stupefied without a doubt. Her fourth brother’s nickname is Little Marshmallow? After a moment of silence, she bursts into laughter.

Devil narrows his eyes dangerously. “Why are you laughing?”

Ignorant of the cat’s bad mood, Belinda says to him, “It’s just I know how ridiculous my Fourth Brother is. Still, he has a reputation here. I can’t imagine him as Little Marshmallow. That’s so unsuitable.”

The cat opens his mouth and yawns, half-closing his eyes. It’s only a matter of perception. He knows that the ghoul can’t be simple, but Nell trusts that ghoul. He also likes that ghoul. So, Eli Sanguine is Little Marshmallow. In Nell’s and his opinions, no other name suits him better.

“I will tell you everything that I know about my brother.” Belinda stands up. “Let me lock the door first. Twelfth Sister might come and interrupt us if she finds out that I am not alone.”

“Go ahead.” Devil stretches his legs. He watches her locking the door and returning back to the seat.

She puts her knees together and straightens her back. “What do you want to know, my esteemed guest?”

Devil is pleased to hear the respect in her tone. If there was a moon in this world, he would have asked the moon to bless this girl with happiness. “Tell me about his fiancee and the second prince who proposed to himher. I also want to know about the cousin who has feelings for him. Where are these people? Who are these people? What do they do for a living?”

How can he assassinate them at night? He needs to know more to make a thorough plan.

“You are a curious cat.” Belinda grins at him.

“I am not a cat,” Devil hisses. “My name is Devil.”

“Devil” Belinda tsks. “That’s not a good name. Devils are frowned upon. They are insane creatures.”

“You can call me D if you dislike it,” Devil compromises since he needs information. “I am not a real devil.”

“I know.” Belinda clasps her hands. “It happened before I was born. Devils suddenly started attacking our world. They have a link with the enemy kingdom.”

“I don’t need to know about some war.” Devil scowls at her. “I want to know about your brother.”

“Sorry,” Belinda apologizes. “I will tell you about my brother and his love history. But you also have to tell me about my sister-in-law.”

Devil cat glares at Belinda in silence.

“You don’t want to?” Belinda bats her eyes at him. “Please, I also want to know what she’s like. I want to get closer to her.”

“Tch!” Devil clicks his tongue disapprovingly. “Tell me what I asked first. I will think about it.”

“Okay.” Belinda grins. It’s fine. Familiars are extremely loyal to their masters. It’s natural for them not to reveal information about their masters. “You asked me about people who are interested in my brother.”

“Yes.” Devil hunches his shoulders, pulling his feet under him as he turns his body nearly into a fluffy ball. “Give me the list.”

The list of people who are going to die soon.

Unaware of the cat’s thoughts, Belinda begins with a formal tone, “The first person in the list is Carmine Highmore. She’s the eldest daughter of Semil Highmore, the prime minister of the Aber Kingdom. She’s a hundred and five years younger than Fourth Brother. When she was sixteen, she was kidnapped by the prince of the enemy kingdom. But my brother saved her. Ever since then, she has been chasing my brother.”

“Typical.” Devil squints his eyes. “Little Marshmallow shouldn’t just save anyone.”

“She is quite beautiful.” Belinda continues, “She’s the second beautiful female of this kingdom. The first spot still belongs to Nilora Sanguine, Fourth Brother’s mother. Even after her death, nobody can replace her.”

“Little Marshmallow can,” Devil mutters.

“Ahahaha.” Belinda roars. “You are right. Fourth Brother did replace her, but he’s still a male. He can dress like a woman, but he can’t become a woman.”

“He wanted to do s.e.x-change surgery.” Devil ponders solemnly, “Nell should have let him do it.”

Little Marshmallow would have looked even more beautiful as a woman, but Nell probably likes him as a man more. They don’t pay him attention when they are in that mood. Now, he can’t go to their room. Nell did ask for some privacy. They should enjoy this happiness fully. When the seal breaks, there’s no telling what would happen. Everything depends on Nell’s decision.

He can’t fully block the memories. The seal is vulnerable because Nell is also interested in the past. It might break anytime, but he’s doing his best to suppress the dark memories.

Devil sighs. Nell’s thoughts and decisions also affect him deeply. If Nell’s feelings change for Little Marshmallow, his feelings might also change. Nell isn’t in love with Little Marshmallow yet. Because of Baek Joon-Woo, her heart is already wavering. But there’s a promise between Nell and Eli. Nell isn’t the type to break a promise.

The promise might keep them together. It’s not fair to Little Marshmallow though. He understands why Nell said that Eli deserved better.

“S.e.x-change surgery?” Belinda creases her forehead. “What is that?”

“Surgery that converts man into a woman and vice-versa,” Devil replies absentmindedly. The Fae is the biggest problem. Nell will seek revenge for sure. Then again, she might look for the missing people. As much as he knows Nell, she’s not the type who would sit quietly after remembering — only if she doesn’t go insane first after remembering. He adds vaguely, “Nell stopped him.”

“Father would have killed both of you.” Belinda exclaims, “Even a kid of this kingdom knows that Father wants Fourth Brother to be the next duke.”

The cat doesn’t react. Position of Duke only means more hassles. If things don’t go south for Nell and Eli, it means that they would stay together. Nell can’t live in this world. She’s not the type to live a duchess life. Nell would rather dress Eli like a duchess and rule as a duke.

“Tell me more,” He commands the girl, “about Carmine Highmore.”
