A Villainess's Struggles

Chapter 60 - The Villainess on Stage

"Oliviaaaa!!! What do I do? I'm so nervous!" I cried.

"C-Calm down..." Olivia replied.

This lunch break is only going to make things worse for me!

I said goodbye to Olivia and Anna after I finished my lunch. I decided to go to the auditorium after to check out the props for our play. Everything looked really cool. I could see that many people were excited.

May was in the auditorium as well. When she saw me, she waved at me to go to her. I was confused why she called for me. But the moment I stopped in front of her, she patted, no, slapped my back really hard.

"Owww!" I screamed in reflex.

"You're worrying too much, Natalie" May smiled.

... Maybe that pat on the back did help me a bit. Key word is "a bit".

"Hahaha..." I sighed.

Yup, I'm still scared.

Before long, the teacher called my classmates and me to the stage as we were about to start.

My stage fear is really bad! Good thing I'm not in the first scene, but the second...

In the first scene, I could see the mother and father of Rapunzel crying. The mother fell ill and couldn't eat anything. The mother then said, "I'll feel better if I can have the herb called rapunzel". The father was scared as the herb is located in the witch's garden. The witch was known to not let anyone enter her garden.

Ah, I'm up next...

As the father sneaked into the garden and plucked the herb, I went onto stage.

I yelled out, "You thief! How dare you enter my garden and steal my herbs!"

The student who played the father pleaded, "Please let me go! My wife is ill and is going to have a baby!"

"Hmm, then I have one condition. You must give me the baby" I replied.

The father had no choice but to agree.

After the baby was born, I took the "baby" which was a plastic doll, and named her Rapunzel. I locked her up in a high tower.

Although I refer to the witch's action as "I", I'm not really the one doing it!

In the next scene, May appeared for the first time. A lot of boys were cheering for her when they saw her. I could hear people shouting,

"What a beauty!"

"Marry me please, I'll give you anything!"

Unfortunately, she already has her temporary Prince Charming so find another girl.

I stopped the noise by saying the most iconic line from this story.

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your h-hair" I yelled.

Ah!!! I bit my tongue!

From below the tower, I could see May laughing at me. The audience was laughing as well.

Heyyy, it's an accident!

May let down a super long rope that looked like a braid. When I pretended I was climbing it, I could hear more laughters from the audience.

Yeah, this is really embarrassing.

In the scene after, Kyle, the prince appeared. The prince just happened to pass by the high tower.

This time, there were cheers of both female and males. As expected of someone who's friends with 75% of the school.

The prince heard Rapunzel sing and fell in love with her voice right away. He decided to pass by the tower everyday to hear her sing.

I just noticed this but, May is not very good at singing. She doesn't sound great... That's a story for another day.

I had to enter the stage again and this time, I was laughed at by the audience just by my arrival.

Probably because I bit my tongue earlier and messed up along with the fake hair climbing... Instead of being a scary and wicked witch, I became a funny witch.

I said "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair" again without messing up but I was laughed at again.

Is this even a serious play anymore?

I hurried off stage after saying that and watched the next scene. Behind the stage, the stage crew seemed to all have faces that said, "It's okay, you're doing great, don't worry."

...

As the witch is the main antagonist, I had to enter the stage once more. This time, I had to push the prince down into the thorns.

When I did my slight push, the prince fell over and pretended to have been blinded. I, the witch, also banished Rapunzel into the deserts.

At the last scene of the play, the audience could see the prince finding Rapunzel in the desert and they lived happily ever after.

I-It's over... Finally!

When all the actors and I went to thank the audience, I could hear a lot of people praising the witch.

It was kind of embarrassing but I'm a bit happy that people liked my role.

After my class finished, Olivia and Anna went to me to comment on the play.

"Speaking of which, your class really simplified the story of Rapunzel" Olivia said.

"Yeah, we did. This story is a lot easier to comprehend" I responded.

"You did a great job as the witch Natalie!" Anna laughed.

"T-Thanks..." I replied.

Another rough day as the villainess, I guess.
