Blood Emperor's Lazy Doctor [Hiatus]

Chapter 20 - Lazy all day and everyday

Forbearing Bygone Courtyard.

"I'll do it." Nuyun spoke, his words dull but magnetically deep. Looming over her, he was ready to grab her pot.

She quickly hides the pot behind her. "You can't! The guest only has one job, sit and wait for food." I may not have many manners, but I do know proper etiquette. He got one over on me last time, but not now!

Both stared each other down. A child defending her tools, while an a.d.u.l.t proclaiming his stance. Both were equally as stubborn, neither relenting their momentum.

This had all started when Hong Luo was preparing the food. She had two fresh spirit rats, how could she not? But a certain someone wanted to do all the work for her. How could she let her guest, her patient cook food in her home? Although she'd be more then happy to laze around, let others do the work, but her mother taught her better. Besides, her morals were strong, she would not betray her heart and mind, not without compromise!

Nuyun pursed his lips, his little rabbit refused to relent. He was in a bind. He hadn't a clue how to act in this moment.

How was this man to know what to do? All his life was spent either fighting, or having people follow his orders. What little knowledge he did know all came from his life's only friend.

A glint passes through his eyes as an idea comes to mind. And so he acts on this idea, his voice low and mournful, "Not a silvers been paid, this debt keeps raising." Releasing a sigh, his voice becomes lower, "Kick me out and be done, this one can't b.a.r.e this debt."

He turned around and slowly walked off with his head hung low, and shoulder drooped. The sight was reminiscent of an abandoned puppy. Oh how hearts would ache on sight, pointing fingers of blame.

Hong Luo was startled, she hadn't expected him to act this way. Wasn't this man an emotionless god? He had even asked what fun was. Doesn't this prove my point? Her mind was twisting in knots. Can't blame her for this, after all first impressions are the hardest to change.

She fiercely shook her head. No! That was just my preconception, who am I to slap a label on him when I know not a thing? What she hated the most, second only to being woken up, was lack of understanding. Ah, she was such a horrible person to do that.

"Wait, where are you going? Don't leave!" She stood up dropping the pot, yet he still continued walking away. She was feeling quite fl.u.s.tered.

She scratched her head, messing up her hair. Her brain couldn't function when her emotions were wry. Watching as that melancholy back got closer and closer to the gate, she said f.u.c.k it!

Running straight after the man, grabbing him by the arm. She had run so hard, her nose became injured do to his thick muscles.

This action of hers caused a slight smirk to form on Nuyun's lips. Hong Luo missed this facial spasm do to height difference. He was just too tall, and she was much too short.

"Did I ever say I was kicking you out? Don't let your mind wander, I'd never do that." She wracked her brain to get this sentence out, as she looked up at his face. But his head was tilted in the opposite direction, so she had no clear view of his expression.

He remained silent, causing Hong Luo to panic. What to do, what to do? She bit her inner lip in contemplation.

In truth, she knew what to do, but was she willing to compromise?

She pursed her lips as the silent war raged on.

Ah, this was wasting energy and light, so she had to be the a.d.u.l.t and relent. So she straightened her posture, pulling the wrist that was embraced in her arms back towards the fire.

"If you want to help, clean the meat, and cut the herbs for me." Will this make him feel better?

And right on cue, Nuyun's posture regained its vigor, as he nodded his head, taking the meat and herbs as he walked off with powerful strides. He wasn't one to demand a mile after gaining an inch. Least not yet.

Hong Luo was resigned. Had she let an over sized child into her home? She could have sworn that was a temper tantrum. She shook her head, what a ridiculous idea. She hadn't a clue how it graced her brain. Perhaps do emotional stimulation? She refused to think about it anymore as she sat back down.

Little did Hong Luo know, her guess couldn't be anymore right. But by the time this was figured out, it was already much too late.

. . .

With her index finger twirling in circles, a disturbance happens in the air. Small water particles began forming.

One minute, the water is barely enough to cover the bottom of a tea cup. So one minute turns into two, then two turns into three, until five minutes have past.

The water is now in a sizable bubble, floating a few centimeters above her hand. She skillfully slides the water into the redden pot, which caused it to sizzle.

Thump!

Hong Luo nearly jumps out of her skin! She turns to the side to see one large plank of wood. Placed in a neatly fashion, and cut to perfection are the herbs and meat she asked for.

"How's it look?"

Startled again, Nuyun sat his b.u.t.t right next to Hong Luo, looking down at her, head tilted in a semi right angle. From that angle she could easily see his long lashes, fanning as if butterfly wings.

Her heart skipped a beat, which shocked her more then his close proximity. She quickly moves her fingers to her wrist to read her pulse. She's confused. Why did that happen? I don't feel any abnormalities. Strange.

"What's wrong?"

Whipping her head back to look at him. Surprisingly his face is super close to hers. Just barely a few inches away.

Her heart skips again.

Whoa! She leans away, clutching her c.h.e.s.t. "It's nothing, it's nothing." Her heart just has some irregular palpitations. which she's a little confused as to why.

Nuyun raised a brow at her actions, not sure whether he believes or not, but continued to watch her, taking in all her changes. He was oddly focused, causing Hong Luo to guiltily turn her head.

She brought her gaze to the pot of water. Did Little Rain's poison act up again? It shouldn't have, my void physique is acting according to record after all. Absorbing all poisons wonderfully. Although a little slow, but beggars can't be choosers.

She swallows down a breath, using the pressure to help convince herself. Once satisfied the breath came out. She hadn't controlled the release well, causing a slight cough. Nuyun without a blink, begun stroking her back, releasing a steady stream of energy. He was gentle as he possibly could be. He knew she was much weaker than himself. Holding back was the most logical course of action.

Once the coughing abated, Nuyun spoke in a dull voice, if one weren't perceptive enough, they'd have missed that trace of concern found on the edge.

"Better?"

Despite being out of sorts, Hong Luo could hear it. So she gave Nuyun a smile, stopping his release of energy. She had already fixed the damage he'd done to himself before hand, but that wasn't why she stopped him. Being an avid energy saver, she couldn't b.a.r.e to see such a waste.

"I'm fine." As the words left her a mouth a bit of sweat fell from her brow. This sweat was obviously formed from the heat of fire, yet Nuyun didn't seem to think so.

He pursed his lips, wiping it away as his dull voice reigned above. "Really?" He wasn't convinced at all, but the little one didn't seem to understand, making his brows furrow.

Hong Luo had returned her gaze to the prep work, missing out on his expression. She was now completely ignoring Nuyun. It's not that she did it on purpose, she's just honestly forgetful. When her mind moves, it shoves all other distractions into a corner.

Wrapped in her own world, Hong Luo batters the meat with herbs, then folds them inside lotus leaves. These aren't just any old lotus leaves either. They're ones from the moonlight lotus. Since they came from such a strong herb, it's only natural that they'd have equal or least half of the essence energy that the plant itself has.

Newly blanketed meat, now thrown into the boiling water. As soon as it hits, a fresh and mind clearing sent trickles into the air.

Nuyun can't help but take in a few breath fulls, whilst swallowing his saliva. To actually salivate on spirit rat meat. If told before hand, he'd never have thought there'd come a day. Spirit rat meat is suppose to be the most unpalatable meat there is after all.

The pleasant aroma is halted when Hong Luo puts a lid on the pot. Standing up, patting the creases out of her gown, "Alright, this will be done in two hours."

She tosses him a fruit, "eat that to hold you over." She then walks off and through the gate, letting out a huge yawn.

Nuyun remained seated as he watched her with deep penetrating eyes. His mind whirled back to the early morning after he had left Hong Luo bathing, and him walking out the courtyard.

Hong Manor.

The morning air was fresh, with breaths of chill. A slight frost clung to the grass, dew that hadn't survived the early morning was making way for mid morning. Critters had long began their activities as birds chirped to the sun.

Along the outer area, bordered by servant quarters, a lone maid servant rushes along one of the narrow paths, rubbing her hands to warm. She had just freshened up and was prepared to begin her work. Today she was to report to the head senior maid servant. She was hoping today would be her day of promotion. Just as that thought ascended her mind, so did a chill that crept eerily up her spine.

Swallowing down a gulp she glanced at her surroundings. Her eyes didn't seem to notice anything strange. "My imagination?"

She sighed, I've been more jumpy as of late. This can't be caused by ridding ourselves of that waste right? Could that loathsome girl have turn to a vengeful ghost?

She couldn't help but tremble on the thought, repeatedly shaking her head. It was thoughts like these that made her so paranoid. She comforted herself as such.

Thoughts started forming as she pondered an issue. Elder miss sure has been acting strange. Even the flowers on way to madams courtyard haven't been spared. When had this started?

She shook her head, banishing such thoughts. She was but a lowly servant, when had she the right to ponder over what one should not.

Rubbing her palms once more, her feet continuing their journey, yet the maid servant abruptly vanishes.

Birds and critters alike had all stopped, silence was in the air. A few brave souls glanced up at the cause. An oak tree standing alone amongst bamboo. With but a glance one can tell this tree had lived ages past. Wide enough to fit 3 large men, whist webbing out in an elegant pattern. Though living for more than several centuries, the wood has aged well.

Above this old tree, was an even older soul, standing straight with his arms folded behind his back, was Nuyun in his black robe. The look in his eyes held a permafrost, ready to freeze all with a glance. Within those irises a female's face was reflected. She was unconscious and hanging in mid air. On closer look she was the very maid whom vanished from the path!

Wisps of black smoke circulated around the maid, keep her body afloat. Forming into a blade, the edge sharp and transparent. With a glint in his eyes, the blade swiftly ran across the girls neck.

It was done so swiftly, without a good eye, the process would remain a mystery.

Defying the laws of gravity, the blood refused to run down, or spray out. Instead flows in gentle streams, as if a slow paced river smoothed along its course, condensing into a single point of blood, floating above Nuyun's open palm. It was unknown how so much blood could be formed into the size of a marble.

Once every drop was gone, that black smoke turned to fire, burning until nothing was left, not even dust remained as the she was wiped from existence. Poor girl didn't even know how or why she died.

Peering deeply into the blood drop, his eyes becoming colder as time passed. His dark eyes begun changing, from once was black to a deep crimson hue. Just a single glance of those red eyes would freeze a man down to their soul.

The Nuyun now held none of that gentleness he had shown Hong Luo. A monster which had climbed its way from hell, ready to reap souls at the drop. His indifference, no matter how good looking his frame, would allow not a single soul near. This was a natural aura he had habitually created. Environment shaped this man well, as well it should. In a man eat man world, it was only natural. Further proof on how relaxed he feels around our dear Hong Luo.

An extended amount of time passes by. The blood drop turns black, disintegrating, blown away by the wind. Nuyun's eyes, still lit with the color of blood, seethe with an icy fury. The temperature in the surroundings become cold. Colder then the frozen tundra in the depths of hell.

Cracks spread out, breaking apart the trees and grass. The surrounding vegetation has vanished, along with Nuyun. The elder oak tree, along with the bamboo were no longer there to be seen, just an empty plot of dirt.

Materializing across that empty plot, rats began popping their heads from the ground. Dozens turned into hundreds in little time. At the rate they multiplied, soon even the ground would be mistaken as carpet.

Nuyun gnashes his teeth as he recalls what he saw in that blood drop. All the pain and suffering which Hong Luo had suffered at the hands of the Hong Manor was now whirling in his head. He saw how a small child was beaten repeatedly by those that should care. From being whipped to being poisoned. She was the freak to their show.

He hadn't a clue how she survived still remaining as pure as white. He had even less of a clue how, no matter what they did, she never made a sound. Even when they pulled up her gown, putting hot iron to skin.

He closed his eyes. He knew exactly how she felt. What she had suffered, he has equally suffered. Which was why he was even more astonished by her preservation in not releasing a sound. He felt a pain in his heart, a pain he'd never felt before. But even he, an unfeeling man, knew what this feeling entailed. His heart ached for this girl. Maybe it was do to the warmth she gifted, or possibly how she reminded him of a small animal. But regardless of reason, that ache would not abate.

After time passed, a gentle smile played a tune on his lips, that he himself was unaware of. How interesting, he mused. Despite centuries of trying, this old blood of mine finally moved. Who would have thought the key would be in such a place.

His eyes flashed as the smile turned rather obsessive. If I were to dig til the bottom, would I find gold, or would I find my doom? This lord can't wait to find out. A chuckled pervaded as his eyes returned to their dull coldness and his mind whirled.

Outside the gate, Hong Luo feels a cold shiver go up her spine. Did a ghost just pass by? That was dreadful!

Shaking off the ice, locating a long sturdy twig. Drawing in the dirt as she circles her courtyard. This process took exactly two hours.

Finishing off the last stroke, the twig turns to dust in her hands. What a good stick, you lasted this long. Looking on at her work she nods in satisfaction. This two part array should keep out any unwanted guest below the 5th Essence Qi realm. Sadly that's all I can manage right now. As long as none of my cousins or uncle appear, things will be fine.

It was about time for the food to be done. So she wipes away her sweat, yawning once more as she enters back into her courtyard. The two of them ate their meal in silence. Nuyun didn't ask what she was doing, and Hong Luo didn't tell.

. . .

The next morning, Hong Luo was ready to go and buy some things. Sadly, she had to drop that idea. Because poor Hong Luo woke up with a slight fever, and Nuyun would push her back into bed each time she got up. He was relentless, not letting her move an inch.

"Didn't you say you were fine? Look how sick you are now." He was quite angry. This girl did not know how to take care of herself. A doctor giving advice that she herself won't follow. Humph, see if he'll let it continue.

Hong Luo was resigned as she was wrapped tightly in her blanket. She grumbles inwardly. What are you my father?! It's just a small fever not a critical illness! Just you wait, I won't cook anymore tasty meals.

She pursed her lips and knitted her brows. Forget it forget it. She'll let him do as he pleases. This lazy sister will just be lazy all day everyday. She inwardly complained to herself, while not forgetting to send a few glares Nuyun's way.

It didn't seem to bother him at all, actually finding her grumpiness cute. Like a rebelling rabbit, showing its tail.

In all seriousness it's good she didn't voice these complaints. Apparently Nuyun had no trouble cooking equally as delicious meals as her. Even her Spirit rat dish he made to the tee.

Looking at the freshly cooked spirit rat. "How did you cook this?"

Feeling rather playful he flashed his pearly whites, "I just copied what you did."

Copy my foot! I used moonlight lotus leaves. How did he get his? Is this man Houdini? Even if he had all the ingredients in the world, spirit rat meat is tricky. While I was wrapping it in the lotus leaves, I inserted waves of spirit energy inside the meat to regulate the heating process. If not for this, than why would one be able to stomach that brew?

After eating she lays down, her back to him. I'm going to ignore him. He's definitely showing off, see if I'll let him have his way! "Thanks, I'm going to sleep."

Now that's how a child is suppose to act. Nuyun walks away, filtering through his mind. Until his thoughts are suddenly broken when his foot falls through the floor.

His eyes narrow dangerously.

"Huli."

Swoosh. A crimson flame flares out. From within, a red nine tailed fox, with gold eyes appears, his coat shimmering fierce and beautiful.

Bowing his head. "Master."

"Fix it."

Huli follows his masters eyes. A hole? He was confused.

"Master how am I..?" Sadly when he looked up Nuyun was long gone, causing a sweat to break out.

Huli couldn't help but shed silent tears. Oh my master, I am a great fox demon. The great red flame. The crimson death! I'm not meant to fix floors.

Ah, master why me?! The poor fox swallowed his grievances as he forced himself to fix the floor.

. . .

Today at the market, all is not as calm as Hong Luo and Nuyun. To be more accurate three people are not having a good time.

Atop a poll that held signs which include, jobs wanted, people missing, and among other things. A girl in a servants gown sits at the top looking very suspicious. Looking here and there.

"Ahhh where are you? Why haven't you come?" Biting her bottom lip refusing to give up, her eyes continued their search.

If Hong Luo were here, she'd recognize this girl as the one crying thief.

Thump.

Ah, well then. Looks like she fell off the poll.

Oh look now she's getting back up.

Poor thing, from the scuff marks on her gown, this is obviously not her first fall. Yet there she goes again climbing once again to ultimately falling once more. The crowd watching shake their heads at this nonsense.

. . .Jumping from roof to roof, a shadow scurries around. It stopped just near the entrance to the northern market gate.

'Where? If I don't find her, how will I report to young master? I'm nothing like Xi Dan and Xi Tou, who can live with disappointing the young master.'

He scratches his head. 'What to do?'

He decides to stay there a bit longer to wait. Hopefully she comes soon, he's hungry.

'My young master see! I forgo food for your sake!' Inwardly crying to himself for his worthy sacrifice.

. . .

Sitting in a tea shop, within a private room, a man with a fox mask sips at his cup. "Xi Tou, Is the vixen gone?"

Appearing out of thin air, "Answering Young master, Elder miss Wan Yao Yao is following the decoy."

Removing his mask, placing it on the table, Lan Qian fans himself. "Good."

That girl is such a pain. If its not brother Qian this it's brother Qian that. She's more sticky then glue and just as stinky.

His head falls to his open hand, leaning over with a forlorn air about him. He sighed heavily to himself.

"Ah, little fairy..." he murmurs aloud.
